What You're Reading Now: Revisited — Page 5

I've been sapped of most desire to read actual books.

I'm mostly waiting for the Legacy of the Force series to come out in Paperback.

I'm reading the SW novelisation at the moment. It's rather good. Although it is labelled as being written by George Luca$h, it was actually ghost-written by Alan Dean Foster, wasn't it?
Don't you call me a mindless philosopher...!

Yes it was. I don't know why they still print Lucas' name on it when everyeon knows he didn't really write it.

Anyone reading anything new? I'm on a Stephen King kick right now.
I'm currently reading The Gunslinger and have The Drawing of the Three lined up for when I finish (which will probably be today)

A friend is a BIG King fan, especially The Dark Tower series. I'm going to finish 'Salem's Lot and then do The Stand so I can get into the Tower series. Lots to read...

A friend told me that the Dark Tower series actually references a lot of King's other novels, sort of like a Steven King Universe that all his stories take place in and have their place in eachother's history, so a background knowledge of this universe might elevate your Dark Tower experience. Let me know when you get round to it.

Please don't laugh, insult me or misunderstand me, but one book I want to read, mostly out of curiosity, is Mein Kampf. I've copied it from the internet - I belive stealing from the Hitler relatives who own the copyrights is morally acceptable.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I'd be interested to read it too - just don't let yourself fall into the trap of beleiving what it says!

And yes, I think downloading Mein Kampf without paying for it is morally acceptable.

P.S. I wonder how many internet 'alarm's we have just activated by repeatedly typing 'Mein Kampf'.

Heh, my college's library has two copies of Mein Kampf. One of them is falling apart.

I'm actually afraid to read it. Afraid of being brainwashed or something.

Chaltab, I trust that you are not somebody who would be brainwashed, but it's possible that it might be dangerous for somebody with similar right-wing views to read it - I imagine it to be a book that would take well-meaning intentions such as your own (patriotism, a respect for your homeland and a desire to not see it decline or lose it's morals, etc) and twist them into hate.

Has anyone here read "Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd"? I'm a huge fan of the band and am wondering if it's worth picking up (though I'm sure at some point I'll pick it up anyway )

Currently reading "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" by Douglas Adams and "Code of the Woosters" by P.G. Wodehouse.

"Inside Out" is fantastic! Get it. I got it when it first came out, and had trouble putting it down. It is the best Floyd book I have read. And I've read a lot.

BTW, Roger Waters is touring DSotM in North America again, so if you missed it last year, try to go. Amazing show. Got my tickets today.

PS Powerage is one of my favorites.

I heard it was very depressing...I read the description on Amazon and decided I'll never read it.

Anyone got anything good to recommend? I'm currently about 1/2 way through Foundation by Asimov, Dune (still slugging my way through that one), 1/4 through Stranger in a Strange Land, and about 300 pages in to The Stand.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye.

First time i've read it in, oh, around 29 years! I got a hardback book club edition on ebay in great shape. It's good stuff, very adult themes in places. I had no memory of reading it when I was 8, so it's fun to get into it again. I'm around half way through...
