Better Grumpy than DopeySupermodel is a new Sega Model 3 emulator that is reported to play SW Trilogy Arcade "mostly good with some large problems". An early alpha version has been released, and there's no sound support. I've tried it and although there are minor graphics glitches, it is playable, even on my slow-ish PC.
Looks very promising, emulation is much more advanced than the last time I tried it on MAME.

Jedi KnightI loved this game way better than those 1997 movie redoes with added cartoon elements.

See You, Space Cowboy...Good to know, Skyjedi. And Mothra, thanks for the great news! Unfortunately I don't know what button is fire, but it's nice to see it working at all...

Defaults are "A" for fire and "S" for event button.

Awesome. I still see this in many arcades.
Question: why in god's name hasn't this been ported to any consoles? Xbox Live Arcade anyone? I mean, with the Wii remote, Move and Kinect, this could sell millions.

Better Grumpy than DopeyThe emulator binaries are available to download in 32-bit and 64-bit flavours from the Supermodel website.
The actual ROM - before anyone cries "pirate" - must be dumped off the PCB of the arcade machine that you own.

I loved it that a X-wing simulator scene was written into the Radio Play of Star Wars, when I used to park myself inside the sit down version of the Atari game I imagined myself in that scene in the Radio play rather than in the actual Death Star run.

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderIt won't work on my machine, but I just ran across one in a small arcade.
I hate the owners who jam the joysticks and buttons so that you can't hit everything properly.

Jedi KnightI could never defeat darth vader in the lightsaber duel on death star 2, the difficulty probably was set to hard.
Boba Fett was nearly impossible too in the sand skiff scene above the Sarlacc.
The first death star trench run, too easy in comparison to even rebel assault on normal mode.
This is the good sega star wars game the 32x game not so much, lol.

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderI did a play on that machine and actually managed to beat Vader and Boba with a screwed joystick. Wow! Then I couldn't hit the final torpedo shot on the last level because of that stick. :(
General game questions:
-Does anybody know the levels of difficulty? I know there are Light Lv. 1, 2, 3
-Any secrets? The ones I know of are:
Shooting a high number of turrets on Yavin mid stages and Death Star II level. Hitting all probe droids on Hoth stage 1. Hitting Vader and the wingmen with proton torpedoes. Deactiviating lightsaber when Vader is defeated to get "So be it Jedi".
-What is the highest rank?
I haven't played the 32x version but I would like to find a machine of Star Wars Arcade sometime.

Better Grumpy than DopeySupermodel v0.2a has been available for a couple of months - it now has sound, and support for game controllers! Website has moved here: http://www.supermodel3.com
Discovered an obscure secret with a high geek-factor on the Hoth escape level. Just like in the wampa attack sub-plot that was eventually scrapped from the film, the room containing two wampas has a warning sign stuck on the door (a deleted scene shows Threepio removing this sign). In the game, you can actually shoot this sign off the door - presumably you get some bonus, or maybe fewer enemies later on, for doing this.
I'm still a miserable failure at the Yavin stage, there must be a knack to it I'm not getting. :-(

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderI'm going to try and get this going. I haven't found a machine in ages.
I think I've accidentally shot the sign off before without realizing it. Good to know.
On Yavin and all other space levels, you have to hit the TIEs as soon as they come onscreen. As soon as they appear they will be in tight formation, and hitting one will usually get some damage to others nearby thus allowing you to take them down quicker. Plus you avoid their blasts this way and are able to maintain your shields for a better end bonus.
On this game, always the quicker the better. The accuracy can be saved for the on foot levels.

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderI just got it to run with their recommended settings. Some levels were really laggy and full of glitches, others were fine, and others ran on hyperspeed.
The lightsaber combat does not work well at all. I might try with a joystick.
Colonel rank. hmm...not bad for emulation.

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderThe final stage of Yavin runs at about 30% speed on my PC and the 1st Hoth stage runs about 25% faster than normal. Everything else works ok with some errors here and there. The last stages of endor on foot are so-so.
