Aha! I thought this might become relevant someday. Check out this episode commentary with Dave Filoni for what could be some insight on the upcoming show.

It's not the new trilogy tie-in I'd hoped for but it's the next best thing. Really looking forward to what Dave and the crew put together. Though I do wonder what your guys reactions will be if he decides to bring Ahsoka back. =P

I hope they wrap things up with her.  She needs to die (not because I don't like her, but for continuity purposes), but it could be handled quite dramatically.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.  Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

Does she?

She could just go into exile and never be seen again.

Possibly be hunted by Vader in the new show.

I hope she isn't a centerpiece, but they could bring her in for a finale or a big ratings boost.  I'd love this to be a bunch of unknown characters rather than anyone we've seen, and I'd like to see them NOT interact with the same 7 people the rest of the universe seems to know.

At first I thought this would be between IV and V.  Now that would be awesome.  Then I realized this will be between III and IV.  At that point I got very depressed.  This whole era is absolutely huge and I was always hopeful it would be filled with the Star Wars television series.  Now, it will be animated and that is that.  George was looking for a way to do it cheaply, and this is certainly a way to accomplish that.  I am excited to watch it, but at the same time depressed about it.

Truth be told, this series doesn't sound all that interesting to me. I'd rather see something made in the Tales of the Jedi/Alan Moore Marvel comics mold or an anthology series.

Just thinking about recent examples...Batman the Brave and the Bold was a sort of anthology series. He always had a new partner every episode and they'd always have new villains and exotic locations to visit. But that was traditionally animated. I can't think of any CG shows like that.

Did you see the end of the show? Ahsoka was expelled from the Jedi Order when she was framed for murder and conspiracy by Barriss. When her name was cleared, they offered her the chance to get back in and possibly get Knight status with the ordeal serving as fulfilling her trials, but she turned them down and just left because she felt she couldn't trust the Council anymore.

Show ends with Anakin watching Ahsoka walk away into the sunset and the regular credits music being replaced by sad music like that episode of the Simpsons with Homer's Mom.

Hmm....on one hand, this sounds much more interesting to me than The Clone Wars.  On the other hand, it's going to be hard to top the stuff that Dark Horse is doing in this era.

If it was set during or after the oot i would be interested but not in-between episodes 3 and Star Wars the same era of the unmade live action tv series.

I would only really be interested if they had the big three involved via voice over, or if they could not get Fisher and Ford at least Hamill like the first 2 radio dramas.

Like if the fleshed out the years after return of the Jedi which build up to episode VII.  And age would not be an obstacle as this is animation Luke could have his further adventures.

Honestly would prefer if it has to be prequel centric to finish off Ahsokas story and Anakins before revenge of the sith instead of cancelling one show unfinished to start another.  The beginning of the rebelllion is now boring as its already been done and more than once to have conflicting continuity.  To see Vader hunt down and destroy the jedi during the purge is also redundant and boring since this plot line was ruined in revenge of the sith.

My wish would be if a prequel to star wars 1977 has to be done as animation pretend the prequels did not happen.

LOL, big ratings boost. It isn't a live action TV show, it wouldn't be like a real celebrity guest appearance from an actor who got big and moved on from the show to do bigger things. I doubt having Ashoka make an appearance on the new show would bring any sort of boost.

For some reason I've been kind of excited about this new animated series announcement. I think the main reason is I feel like Disney is actually doing something right and looking at the market. George kind of did his own thing, regardless of whether or not it was the most marketable. I for one have never had any interest in the Clone Wars series, but if it had been a Star Wars cartoon featuring things I've had nostalgia for since being a kid, like X-Wings, Tie Fighters, and other familiar things from the OT, I would have been all over it. I think there is a large currently untapped base out there that feels much like I do.

Sure, kids relate to the silly Clone Wars stuff and have a lot of fun with it, but I think they relate to the OT era just as well, and the OT era stuff has a much larger base of interest. While you have plenty of fans who can't stand the prequel stuff, I've never heard of too many fans who only like the prequel stuff and can't get behind anything from the Rebel v. Empire stories. There is a lot more goodwill associated with it, and it has a long enduring fanbase. George has forced the market to stay in the PT era by only providing new PT material. I think Disney recognizes the goldmine that is classic Star Wars.

^ I totally agree with you CP3S, Disney has stepped in and halted production of Prequel related projects and are refocussing on what made Star Wars successful.....to make them money........cause thats where the mainstream fans are, myself included......with all the good things the folks here say about the CW cartoon I've tried & tried to get into it but it doesn't hold my attention.

This topic made me decide to watch a few Clone Wars episodes for curiosity sake. I watched the last three episodes of season four. Seems like a decent kids show. But wow, what a mess for continuity! Anakin seems like a really likeable and heroic character here. How'd he go from being as he was in AOTC, to mature and likeable in The Clone Wars, to entirely immature and unlikeable again in ROTS? None of it makes any sense.

At least with the finale they found a nifty way to get Ahsoka out of the picture to explain her absence in ROTS.

I'm not very excited for this new series. The same team who did "The Clone Wars" will be working on it, the animation is going to be CG, and most of the designs will be recycled concept art

Disney's marketing people have enough knowledge and skill that they know the importance of making a product look fresh.

Disney cancelled The Clone Wars for a reason, obviously they didn't feel it was beneficial to keep it going. They aren't just going to have essentially the same looking show restart just 15 years later on the timeline.

I anticipate an entirely new look and feel.

They might keep the same look and feel. They won't care, as this time, they'll have it on their network.

There's quite a few episodes that show Anakin's temper and conservative views. Scene in the Geonosian arc where he tortures and force chokes Poggle for information comes to mind.

Also, seeing Anakin as something more then just a whiny bitch makes his fall work better and you can legitimately believe Obi-Wan's old comment "He was a good friend". He's a more well rounded character.

Oh, I agree. I am sure it would. My issue is that in The Clone Wars, Anakin seems like a really cool guy, and the character he should have been in the PT. While in ROTS, which takes place later, he is back to being the same immature kid we saw in AOTC, only with longer hair.

This isn't a complaint about The Clone Wars, but rather a compliment. From the little I have seen, I think they did a great job with the character, I wish we had seen that Anakin portrayed in the films.

Me hearing about doing episodes 7-9 : "Why ? Was this REALLY necessary ?"

Me hearing about cancelling The Clone Wars : "Noooooooooooooooooooooo"

Me hearing about a new CGI show called Rebels : "Well, this could be interesting..."

Me hearing about Dave Filloni being involved and using Ralph's paintings as a visual guide : "Yes !"
