Monroville said:

I always felt that Vader gave Luke a nudge towards the vents, which then pulled him in once he got close enough (as that initial scene with Luke tumbling towards the vents looks too awkward for him to be naturally sucked in, not to mention it fit with Vader wanting his son to live).

Monroville, although I quite liked darth_ender's possible explanation HERE of how Luke managed to be 'sucked into' the side from the middle of the wide chasm, your theory of Vader using the 'Force' to steer him over is interesting too.

But I've finally settled on this alternative notion now  -

Since Luke has had some 'Force' training by this point, I guess he might have been able to 'influence' his trajectory mid-fall towards the 'vents' himself ...which would remove the need for any kind of 'sheer blind luck' thanks to 'super suction', or any 'helpful' intervention by Vader.  It's no biggie, but I kinda like the possibility that even though Luke's options were severly limited, he took a calculated risk after noticing the 'vents' below him, before he let go, and managed to save himself with an intentional 'Force'-induced swerve towards a group of them...  (and since this notion does away with the need for 'super suction' now, then I guess that unlike Luke, the hand/lightsaber *would* have just continued to fall directly down the middle to the bottom, after all)

However, the other scenarios work well enough too, so everyone can choose their own preference.

Okay, here's another couple of minor things to do with this sequence that I want to cover before I move on -

On page 722 adywan said:

Well the matte has gone through a few modifications since the preview.  The gantry and walkway have been shrunk, along with the window and the sphere at the top has been made larger and had a few modifications.  The scale as it stands now makes the chance that the carbon chamber could be at the top of the structure more believable.

adywan, although your excellent '3D motion' effect and various neat alterations to the 'Vane' were the most noticeable changes at the time, I've been meaning to highlight a couple of other subtle improvements that were shown in your 'rapidshare' preview clip back on page 722 -

Start of original SE shot -

As well as fixing the small portion of incomplete background detailing on the right-hand of the above SE shot (that I've pointed to in your version below)...it's also really great that you managed to subtly add the missing groups of red 'vent' openings all the way around the chasm too...especially since it's a moving shot!  This really helps to tie-in nicely with the red 'vents' seen around this area in the various shots that follow afterwards...

Start of Revisited 'rapidshare' preview shot (which needs to be seen in motion to be fully appreciated) -

Terrific job all round.

But I'm wondering if you can subtly touch up a couple of other things in some of the following shots too, perhaps?  There seems to be some missing colour on some of the rows of red 'vent' openings, and also on some of 'dotted lines' of red/orange lights during various shots...and it would be neat to see a bit of colour added to all of them whenever they appear, if possible -

Firstly, could the currently white 'dotted line' of lights I've pointed to in the 2 shots below be given some red/orange colouring instead?...to match better with the colour of the 'dotted lines' of lights seen in other shots during the sequence that they are probably meant to represent...

Here -

And Here -

Alternatively if preferred, this particular 'dotted line' of lights seen in the 2 shots above could be removed altogether...to tie-in even more with shots that follow afterwards, since they don't actually seem to be seen at this same level with the 'walkway' in other shots...

(see various shots further down in this sequence for examples of what I mean)

The positioning of the red 'dotted line' of lights seen nearest to us in the top-right of the 'duel' shot below is fine here, as they give a satisfactory enough appearance of being somewhere underneath the 'walkway' too, at this angle...as opposed to being roughly level with it...

...and everything looks fine in this shot of Luke below too...

...but is it possible to add a subtle hint of the missing red colour to the 'vents' I've pointed to here in the shot below?...

...and to the 'vents' in this shot below too?...

...and also to the 'vents' in this shot below too?...

...and also to these other 'vents' in the top-right of the same shot as above too? (which are more noticeable when everything brightens up during the flash of the sparks)...

...the 'vents' in the shot below are fine once again...

...but is it possible to also add a touch of the missing red colour to the single darkened one I've pointed to in the shot below too?...

...now the 'vents' in the shot of Luke below are fine once again...

...but is it possible to add a hint of the missing red colour to the 2 single darkened ones I've pointed to in this shot below too?...

...and also to the 'vents' behind Luke in this shot below too?...

...and also to the 'vents' seen in this shot below too?...

...and also to the 'vents' seen behind Luke in the shot below too?...

...and also to the 'vents' seen in the shot below too?...

...now the 'vents' seen on the top-right of the shot below are fine once again, but should the 'yellowish' light I've pointed to below, be whitened up to match later shots of the chasm wall lights, or not?...

...and is it possible to add a hint of the missing red colour to the 'vents' in the shot below too?...

...now the 'vents' in the shot below are fine once again...

...and they are also fine in the shot below...

...but is it possible to add a hint of the missing red colour to the 'vents' seen in the shot below at this point too?..

...now the 'vents' seen in the shot below are fine once again...

...and they are also fine in the shot below...

...and they are also fine in the shot below too...

...and they are still fine in the shot of Luke below too...

...but is it possible to also add a hint of the missing red colour to the single darkened one I've pointed to in the shot below too?...

...then after Luke first looks downwards, the 'vents' seen in the shot below are fine once again...

...and like all of the various 'close-ups' of Luke, the 'vents' in the shot below are fine once again...

...and the 'vents' seen in the top-right of the shot below are still fine, but again, should the 'yellowish' light I've pointed to below, be whitened up to match with other shots of the chasm wall lights, or not, in this shot too?...

...and is it possible to add a hint of the missing red colour to the 'vents' seen in the shot below too?..

...then the 'vents' in the rest of the sequence shots are fine once again...

...but I'm wondering if the 'white light' seen close to the base of the 'Vane' structure's 'stem' that I've pointed to in the shot below, should be included in your '3D motion' shot, or not?...as the original SE shot I've shown at the start of this post seems to have it hereabouts too...

...or should this one below just be removed too?

Anyway adywan, if you end up deciding against adding any red colour to the darkened 'vents' I've pointed too, I guess I can continue to 'imagine' that the bulbs have simply 'burnt out' on all these ones...and the 'maintenance guys' haven't gotten around to replacing them yet...  ;)
