Plus, some of us are too cheap or lazy to purchase a blu-ray burner. I also have like 50 blank DVDs and would need to buy blank blu-ray discs, another added expense when I have a solution that will work for me as is.

Actually bluray writers are cheap and very popular now. However the trend is to streaming services. Bluray is on its way out.
For those of us in the USA, Newegg has a blu burner for $65 on sale. Come on guys no excuses.
Looks like the cost comes to about $1.10 per blank disc for the 6X and $1 each for the 4X if you order in bulk. That's the 25GB version, the 50GB (6X are $4.50).
I haven't done any research to see if there are any issues with burning speeds, or what brands to avoid (remembering speed and dye issues with DVD-Rs back in the day).
I barely have much use for a BD player right now (that came with my new laptop a year ago), much less a burner. Not even sure if my player can run the burnable media.

Well, that is an important part of a fan edit... Is it not?

That implies that every thread regarding a fan edit can touch upon this topic. It really is it's own topic when seen this way.

Every thread regarding a fan edit should touch on this topic. There isn't much point in creating a thread for an edit that won't be distributed. Maybe the discussion has gone on too long or maybe it's not the right time to discuss such matters, but I'd certainly like to know how, when and where I'll be able to get this thing. And it's not as if this is detracting from the major topics of the day or burying an important discussion.

Padawan LearnerExactly. It will be a good 10 years if not longer before there will be mass streaming of content with the picture and sound quality of a Blu-ray.

The Holy DrinkerAh well when it's done, it's done. Heck I'd look forward to ESB: R and The Hobbit at the same time even. Don't rush Ady. Take all the time you need. All the ungrateful impatient souls out there just ignore them!!

I enjoy the starred war!For any new folks checking in....just chill & be patient.
Believe me, we're all excited as heck for this project, just know we've been following these edits for years. Ady will be done when he is done and the edit will be epic. Just keep checking in every now and then and eventually you'll see this place on fire.
If anything just be happy that it looks like this will be the year. :) I know I'm as excited about this as I am about Prometheus, Avengers, Hobbit or any of the big flicks coming out from Hollywood.

Padawan LearnerBlu-ray is most certainly not on its way out. And with more and more cable companies instituting download caps, if anything streaming might drop as more people find it so easy to hit their caps with streaming. And I didn't just buy a 55" plasma so I can watch streaming. Different people have different goals in mind - for some, streaming is convenient. For many, blu-ray is the way to go for quality. Also, streaming doesn't offer alternate/deleted scenes/commentaries/making of documentaries, etc.
My apologies and I don't mean to keep the thread off track, but I hate when I hear comments like "streaming will kill blu-ray" or "blu-ray is dying". It's just not true.
I do think that once ESB:R is complete there will need to be some discussion about distribution, but that's still a ways away.

I strongly disagree with that. Discuss here.

Yes, but very slowly. Blu-Ray will continue to be relevant for at least another 10 years IMO.

Don't talk about that here. Please see the thread Harmy linked to. That's where that discussion belongs.
