Harrison Ford's make-up was rubbing onto his stormtrooper armor as he was yelling his "wonderful girl, either I'm gonna kill her or I'm beginning to like her" line. I don't remember if DE got this in his edit or not, but you might want to look at that for a change.

Quick question: Do you anticipate that this will require a Dual Layer DVD-R?

Adywan, do you think you'd mind sharing your approach to recreating the laser bolts? I've got a technique that's close that I'm using on my project, but I think you're a little closer. Would love to hear what your approach is regardless!

In all due respect, your laser bolts and lightsabers are too blurry for my taste. I liked in the original ANH that the edges of the lightsabers blades were sharp. They also flickered. Those two aspects made them feel dangerous.

A shot of Vader in the duel has been flipped. Could you un-flip his chestbox?
Also, I don't know if you have fixed the lightsaber in the shot after the duel where Vader walks towards the hangar.

There are also tonnes of goofs with the Stormtrooper costumes, but they are many and I think they would be complicated to fix. White gaffer tape, bits of armor falling off, white straps showing, missing brow, troopers swapping weapons etc. Especially noteworthy is Luke's shoulder bell during the prison fight.

The lightsabers in the trailer were only prototype effects shots and will have a stronger core & more natural glow in the finished version. The flicker is definately still there though.

It may well have to be a dual layer but i'm going to do a 9 pass CCE single layer encode first to see how if i can stick to single layer without sacrificing quality.

Ok, here goes....

Export the section you want to edit from Adobe Premier and save as a filmstrip. Try to keep it to about 50 frames at most because it uses hell of a lot of memory and will slow your pc down. Import into Photoshop.
Add a layer and using the polygon lasso tool draw round the original laser or if you are creating your own just draw the shape you want. Using the paint bucket tool fill the selection with the desired colour for the core. once you have created all the cores for your lasers add a small blur using guassian blurr (2.5 is pretty good but you will have to descrease for smaller lasers. just try a few setting to see what looks best.

Once this is done duplicate the core layer and then again using the paint bucket tool fill the cores of the duplicate layer. This now gives you a thicker line. this layer shoul be placed below the inner core. now you have finished filling the new layer add another guassian blur of about 7.5 (again this setting needs to be changed for the different sizes. Just use the preview feature to get your desired results. Your outer core layer needs to be dropped by about 20% in capacity then merge the 2 new layers together. Then just play about with that layers capacity until you get the look that you want. Once you have finished that then flatten the image and click save.

Hope this helps

I've just had a major setback with this release. One of my hard drives just died on me and i've lost about 95% of what i have already completed between the begining of the falcon saber training (with only 3 shots being on a seperate hard drive) right up til the first scenes of the Death Star battle. so I'm back to square one. Bloody typical because i was saving the last completed shot of the Vader/ Ben fight which took me 3 weeks to do. i guess these things happen. So I'm afraid that its going to take longer for me to finish now.

I would like to say thanks to everyone for their input and ideas and please keep them coming please.

Man that really sucks ass. Is the Hard Drive salvagable? Would some Data Recovery Software Help?

No, it's completely dead. it won't spin up at all. tried it in a different pc and nothing. It's only 3 months old so still under guarantee but it still sucks big time. One good thing though. I'm testing out a different way of doing the sabers and it looks way better, so i guess something good has come out of it.

Aw, crap. Well, maybe this could be a chance to incorperate some of Darth Editous's fine work. Could be a big time saver for you. I'll pray to the Maker that this next time goes better.

Well, let me sneak another request while your are getting back on your feet.

The elevator door to the detention block had always bothered me. It looks like it survived a previous take of the explosion and it was patched up for another take. Can this be smoothed over?

And it would be great to see something done about the cardboard X and Y-wings in the Yavin hanger. Why the heck ILM hasn't fixed these yet is beyond me. Special Editions my arse!!

This project looks amazing - the best yet? Can't wait to see how this pans out - love the 'trailer'.

It's been said before here but I'll say it again - if only Lucasfilm knew of the sheer talent from many of those here for fixing (and spotting them in the first place!) errors, re-editing and so on they'd realise they really need to get their act together as far as DVD releases of the Star Wars saga are concerned. makes me wonder what could be achieved with a decent print of the origianl trilogy and the combined efforts of all those here ;-) (I know dream on!!!).

As far as fixing things is concerned, have a few things you might like to take a look at. In one of the scenes of R2 in the X-wing you can clearly see a shadow of someone (cameraman?) moving. It's only a second or two but I'm amazed it's gone unnoticed for so long. Also the guns on the full-size X-wing can clearly be seen bending as the ship mock-up is rocked by off-stage hands. Can this be fixed to you think?

Can't wait to see the end results of this version.

Cheers

(This needs to be a 'good' shocked)

If you are able to replace the cardboard ships, I will add a second wing to the shrine I have built for you in the basement.
