Padawan LearnerAre there any serious SW preservationists living in FL? Especially anyone who has been involved with any of the many excellent efforts that have been talked about on these boards? Many of these projects have impressed me immensely with the excellent results coming from only commercially available materials. There is a lot of talent here. Imagine what could be done with proper source materials. The sky is the limit. I will be in this area for the next two days and would love to meet with any of you who are serious about preserving the OUT. Perhaps we could meet at Star Tours or something, have a bite, and discuss current preservation efforts and future possibilities -- SERIOUS and unprecedented possibilities. I'll only talk about it in person, so please send me a PM with your phone number so we can arrange a meeting. I'll check my messages tomorrow.

Star Tours closed a few months back. The 'Last Ride' coincided with Star Wars Celebration V which was in Orlando. There were a few members of this forum there then, i'm sure we would have enjoyed the chat.
Good luck with your search.

Padawan LearnerOut of ten replies there was, what, one serious one? This is what I meant. I'm not looking to waste time on forum banter, I actually want to talk to other preservationists in person. And this is the place to find them, no?
Star Tours closed?! That sucks! I didn't hear about it. Why did it close? Are there plans to re-open it after maintenance or something? Or is Lucas going to SE and Prequelify it? :-( Time to start the Star Tours preservation efforts!
Seriously, I guess I won't be meeting anyone on this trip, but if you are serious about preserving the OUT then contact me BY PM and a group of us can get together, and meet in the most convenient place for all, sometime in the near future.

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderYep. It was outdated, but did not need SEing and Prequelization.
We really need an ot.com convention. All of us in a room just gushing SW, some general fisticuffs, and burning the GOUT/Definitive Collection telecine. Wouldn't that be fun?

Magister Pontifex MaximusMr T says :
Meeting someone from the Internet CAN be extremely stressful.
Knowing that you are meeting FACE to face with someone that you have been chatting with can be nerve racking.
It can also be scary because in essence, you do not know this person or if you can trust that they are who they say they are.
Following are some tips for meeting them and how to be safe while doing this. This will ensure that if they turn out to be someone you would rather not have met, you have taken the proper STEPS to “take back” the meeting.
The most important tip is to never give out your address.
Even though it may be a date, you should not let them PICK YOU up.
Giving out your address is the worst thing you could possibly do.
Plan a day and time and plan on meeting each other there.
This will ensure that you both come separately and are not giving out personal information.
Pick a place in the middle of each of you.
Do not pick somewhere very near to your residence because this may bring them around the AREA if they want to see you again.
Pick a neutral place and somewhere where no one knows who you are.
If the other person sees that the people know you, they may try to come back and get information out of them.
Another good idea is to do a background check on the person.
If you know their last name, and town or city they live in you can check in with the local police department.
Find out if they have any outstanding warrants or fines that are UNPAID. This information, for the most part, is public information and can help you to feel more comfortable with the person.
You can even tell the person that you would like to do it.
If they have nothing to hide, they will gladly accept the fact that you want to make sure of who you are.
The next step is what you bring along. Do not bring a PURSE or wallet. Bring some money and an ID.
If they try to steal from you, they will not get much out of you.
Park a few BLOCKS away and walk the extra distance or take a cab.
This way they do not know what type of vehicle you drive or where you are parked.
One of the most important things to remember is to have your first meeting somewhere well lit and full of people.
You do not want to meet in a wooded park or on a deserted beach at night.
Meet at a popular restaurant or bar: somewhere where lots of people are always present.
This makes you feel more secure and if the person tries something funny, there will be people around to help you if a problem arises.
No matter how the night follows through, you should not take them back to your residence.
Stay in the restaurant as long as you can, or go to an all night diner and talk.
Wait until the second or THIRD date before you start revealing information about yourself.
Overall, just keep your guard up as the date unfolds. Be aware of any strange behavior or rehearsed actions.
This is the most critical time of the relationship and will establish a trust between the two of you.
If the date unfolds well and you make plans for another, it may be a match made in heaven...but if that match involves HANGING AROUND my house, looking like you are going to put SOMETHING ILLEGAL IN MY BINS then THINK AGAIN !!!!

Wait for me. I shall be merciful and quick.Anyway....yeah Star Tours is closing but the ride itself is still running until sometime in November I think. After that they'll do the real decommissioning and revamp the queue area and have a new ride in place. Actually I should say rides, as now Star Tours will have multiple destinations like it was originally supposed to have. Only downside is that this is a prequel to the original Star Tours and is set between ROTS and ANH. The ship will look basically the same, except it now has these brown/orange stripes on it and is now the Starspeeder 1000.
Join Space Command and then help back Jack Houston and the Necronauts!

Ointment Fly^^lol, Bingo wins the thread.
Sorry, but with a thread title like this plus a slightly creepy OP, Rattlehead was asking for it. Even if he does work for Lucas.

One thing going for Rattlehead is the 2004 join date. But going against are multiple posts, looking for stuff. (the OT.com old post pruning limits what we can remember about this user)
It's a crap shoot. Strong personalities could lead to results, but some posting finesse might have made this thread already old news. Odd to meet at the most expensive place on earth.

Padawan LearnerI like how only serious discussions on film preservation can be had by sitting at disney world next to the tea cups ride after going on Star Tours.
