At least (hopefully) it won't be letterboxed like last time. I'd rather have a DNR'd OT than have them sit in a basement at LFL's offices.
It will definitely be letterboxed, because there are no anamorphic Blu-rays.

Don't be so sure. They could crop it to 16:9 ;-)
A new official OUT release just opens the discussion of how badly they could screw it up. I still think the best-case scenario is they release the '81 crawl on Star Wars with the '93 mixes all around and they're still pretty faded. The good news is that it pretty much has to be new scans.
So yeah, yay for new sources for Harmy to fix up and make presentable...

If you can't do something correctly, you shouldn't do it at all. I'd love to be more optimistic about this, but even if it does happen, they still have plenty of things they can fuck up.

It will be interesting to see how Kathleen Kennedy handles the question, which is sure to come up, at the big convention next week. I think this is her first appearance. I hope she doesn't get scared off. She looks out on a sea of guys arguing about prequels and special editions, mutters "I've made a huge mistake."
I doubt it will come up. I've been to two Celebrations and both were filled to the gills with the GEORGE CAN DO NO WRONG crowd. I made it a point to frequently ask people whenever I was waiting in line for something about the OUT and the vast majority didn't even know it was an issue or care. Maybe our European counterparts will be different but I'm not holding my breath.

LOL. I can just imagine him saying all that while doing those jerky movements of his.
Don't forget him sprinkling every other sentence with "as a matter of fact".
... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"

I am ready for the trials!I gave up on the OOT release for years, but once Disney bought the rights to SW, I figured it will eventually happen.
Now I know there is alot of legal wrangling that FOX owns the distribution rights to SW'77, but that can be worked out. FOX/Paramount both funded Titanic, and agreed that Paramount would get the Domestic Home Video Rights, while FOX would get the international home video because there was too much money to be made to keep delaying the release of the most popular movie at that time.
I could see Disney releasing the OOT in 2015 when Episode 7 comes out and you have Ford, Fisher and Hamill doing publicity for the new movie along with the release of the original versions to the public. Perfect Tie-in!

I think even if 20th Century Fox has retained the home video rights we still should be seeing a release of the OUT sometime in the future.

I'll try to ask about the OOT on Blu-ray at the panel.

I am ready for the trials! It would be nice to see Lucasfilm not treat OOT fans like unwanted relatives at Thanksgiving dinner in the future. For the amount of money it costs to attend one of these cons, I don't think an simple honest answer to a question is too much to ask.
We know there are people on the inside who feel about the movies the way we do. The GOUT, half assed as it was, (thanks to George's unwillingness to get new transfers done) did mean somebody heard us asking.
For Disney, it would only make them more money.

I'm fairly certain that Harmy would no longer need sources if we had the originals. That's kind of the point.SpilkaBilka said:
Great. The more sources Harmy has the better.
If they screw it up like GOUT maybe Harmy would be able to salvage something of use out of it.

Whatever boner Bill Hunt has for Fox, he did not give the SW BluRay set a favorable review. I remember he mentioned things about being "duped" that the lightsabers were truly fixed, among other things...

I am ready for the trials!I'm wondering if the Holiday Special even still exists in any form at Lucasfilm or Fox. Wasn't the copy that's now out there in the wild made straight from a tv station's master tape of it??
Oh, wait, I forgot they used some shots from the cartoon in one of the web docs for AotC, the one focusing on Boba Fett.

I am ready for the trials!Forgot about that also. Never did get around to picking up the blu-ray.
Anyway, I was convinced George was eventually gonna get around to restoring the OOT someday. Didn't he make some comment at Celebration Europe about how it was still "too expensive" to restore the original versions? That right there pretty much sealed it for me: it was about money. All the Disney deal did was make it that much more of a sure thing, and pretty much guarantee it would happen sooner.

But didn't George say that the originals were "destroyed" while making the Special Editions, so they couldn't be released even if he wanted to? Would this not make him out to be a liar then?
