Regarding fan DVDs with alternative audio tracks - please read
Examples of fan projects that comprise DVDs with alternative audio tracks:

• Alternative soundmix, not available on any offical DVD.
• Uncompressed PCM track extracted from laserdisc.
• Fan-made isolated score track.
• Alternative commentary track, not available on any official DVD.
• Music/movie "synchronicity" DVDs.

These are all great fan projects, and we welcome threads for the discussion of existing or future projects of this type. However, where such projects include video taken from a retail DVD with no significant edits, under the forum rules such projects fall under the category of "Custom DVDs". Discussion about distribution (B&P, PIF, newgroups, torrents, rapidshare, etc...) of custom DVDs is not permitted on the forum.

Should you want to share your creations, your options are as follows:
1. Upload the audio only and provide a download link for the audio file plus instructions for replacing the audio on the official retail DVD.
2. Distribute the whole disc via the usual channels, but with no mention or hints about where or how to obtain a copy of your disc. Anyone wanting to get hold of a copy is expected to search it out for themselves.

Note that if the audio has previously been released on DVD or CD then #1 is no longer a valid option.

I'm aware that there are currently one or two projects on the board that conflict with these rules; I'm not going to edit any posts at this time but I'd appreciate it if you could abide by these rules in the future.

Thank you for your cooperation.

- It's certainly a phenomenon in all walks of life.
- What do you mean?
- Well at one point you've got it, then you lose it, and it's gone forever. All walks of life. Georgie Best, for example, had it, lost it. Or David Bowie or George Lucas.
- George Lucas? Revenge of the Sith isn't bad.
- No, it's not bad, but it's not great either, is it? In your heart you know that although it looks all right, it's actually just... shite.

hi, long time lurker, first time poster.

So, if I was interested in finding a copy of a certain disc which has alternate sound mixes on it I would not be able to ask anyone here where I could find it as it would be classed as a "custom" dvd rather than a re-edit?

Would I be in trouble if I only asked someone to pm me to discuss this matter?

Thanks

Private messages are just that - private. You can message anyone you like, at best you'll get a friendly helpful reply, at worst you'll just be ignored, but you certainly won't get into trouble for it.

Do not, however, start a new thread or make a new post saying "I'm interested in getting a copy of ****, please PM me about it."
