Is a mystery, sometimes we just don't know things but maybe this Shriners Fez is a clue.

I think it had been known for awhile the OOt was not going be released on DVD in 2004.

Yeah, that's the way I remember it - the petition was made in response to the news that the 2004 DVDs would only have the SE's.

(I know that my profile says I joined mid-2004, but I was a lurker with no account for quite a long time before then - I don't remember if I found the site when it first started, but it was close.)

Seems like this was before any official announcement of the 2004s had taken place.

*EDIT*

Official DVD announcement: Feb 10, 2004

http://www.starwars.com/episode-iv/news/2004/02/news20040210.html

This used to be the official announcement.

sometimes things are well known before an official announcement is made.  All kinds of stuff leak on to  the net.    You could ask Jay himself about this, he would know.   So would another forum member, but he is dead to me.

I know that I didn't find this site until (not long) after the 2004 DVDs were announced, so it's quite possible that the "mission statement" changed when the DVDs were announced.

I refuse to believe the site existed before I found it. :p

Wow, Frink, I can't believe how quickly I forgot that you were a newbie here less than a year ago!

Yet he already has a higher post count than me.  It's blasphemy!

In fact, he has one of the highest post counts of anybody ever in the history of this forum.  He long since made Jedi Spirit, the highest posting rank (back in the old days, of course).

Frink has posted 3x more in six months than I have in five years.

Wow.

He is a valued member. Nobody but he can turn a horrible thread into something hilarious and awesome in just one post.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won't last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you'll be able to project it on a 20' by 40' screen with perfect quality. I think it's the director's prerogative, not the studio's to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

This site may be be tracked as pre-Adywan and post-Adywan.   And pre- and post-Fink.

Ady brings in the members and the Fink weeds them out.

It's hard to remember what it was like before.

And now I feel old.

Again.

Same here.  I remember I'd all but stopped coming to this site for quite a while ... and then I happened to open a hundred-page-long-thread I hadn't bothered to look at, as it seemed like pro-SE junk to me ... Adywan's ANH:R thread.

And the site went from being past its prime to the dawn of a new era (or something pretentious like that).

Then more GOUT restorations started popping up, and then Frink showed up to make things fun ... and I've been back to visiting this site almost daily ever since.

btw, adywan's ANH:R was what brought me here to lurk for quite a while, IIRC.

I single-handedly saved this site with my both hands. True story.

Or Zion or Moth3r.

I've only got on the site during the first second year, so I can't say exactly.

RE: Question About The History of Originaltrilogy.com?

I stumbled onto this site because of the Hi Rez poster art section. Back in those times you couldn't hardly find Hi Resolution Star Wars poster without some hard core searches. Google has gotten better at searching, but then it was hard. I was a lurker for years, and then one time I had an idea to do a retexturing job on Shadows of the Empire (Which was cancelled by my noobery), so I figured I would post about it on here, and have been coming on ever since.

ANHR was already out for a little while, so I snagged it when I got around to getting a DVD9. The ESBR thread was one of the things that kept me coming.
