Jedi KnightI know it is an over used technique, but I've been pondering if some movies wouldn't be improved by its use.
I can think of several movies that use hyperkinetic rapid fire editing that turns the action scenes into a jumble of shaky cam flashing images.
Soooo... anyone with ideas or software suggestions for DIY speed ramping?
(For those that don't know, speed ramping is when a motion slows or stops for effect and then speeds back up again.)
I'm also curious what films people think would be improved by using this in a fan edit.

The Interweb is a Series of TubesOne crude solution to increasing the "speed" of an image sequence (assuming it's all the same shot) by 2X is to:
1. Drop 3 of every 4 frames of the shot (i.e., take every fourth frame)
2. Use MFlowInter to generate intermediate frames to smooth out the motion
This would transform the shot from:
to
X I X I...
where X=original frame and I=intermediate frame.

The Interweb is a Series of TubesAlso, I just realized that the solution I posted above would save you from having to do some kind of wacky frame-blending to achieve what you want to achieve.
It simply produces a 2X faster blend-free version of a shot.

Jedi KnightWow, old thread.
Your solution seem easy and similar to what the AfterEffects plugin does (can't remember the name of it), but without the ability to ramp up and down the speed.
I've sort of give up on what I was going to apply this to, but it's good to know for future info.

Jedi KnightI think I played with Twixtor. Had to use an old version because my computer sucks. It was not satisfactory or speedy.
