That's true, and it's a good idea.  Of course, one doesn't have to upscale to use h.264, even if the intention is to burn the result to disc.

EDIT:  Ah, I've just seen your subsequent post with the screenshots.  I didn't realize that the 720x480 you mentioned didn't have black bars.  Upscaling a little would make sense then.

Congratulations on releasing the DVD, Puggo!  I look forward to seeing it, when it eventually makes its way to newsgroups.

Check our favorite place, there may be a nice surprise this morning.

Man, I can't believe this happened again. How disappointing.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I read the news today! (Oh boy)

Maybe Puggo buried the missing disc in the back garden...

Can someone PM the info on this to me?

Star Wars is the only case in modern film history where the preservation of the original award-winning version has been left up to the fans.  That fact alone proves that Lucas is insane.

I don't see it on MS, that's why I asked.

it was reported for being in the form of a zip file. it seems to still be seeding to me, though speed is fluctuating greatly. i'm at 87%. if it seeds to completion for some, we could unzip and jump in to help seed a corrected torrent.

Oh FFS....

Thanks for the update, rnranimal.  I'll gladly help with my fiber-optic connection, but I need to have the thing to do it!

If you wanted to make a native HD version, yes, but this was done at 720 x 480 DV. The image on the film frame was an anamorphic 2.35 image (actually wider, but I can't recall the AR on this specific print). So the 480 vertical resolution would work great on a 720p upscaled version in which 2.35 is 544 pixels tall. It would only need a slight upconvert and then stretched out. Plus the benefit of having a H.264 encode would be wonderful as well.

...I have made the full raw captures available for other projects - for example, Harmy used a couple of segments to enhance his edition.  That is really the main reason I've done these captures - for research

Well then theoretically couldn't somebody else convert the captures to an HD file?  I'd like to help out if anybody wants to tackle it.

I'm sure if someone had a serious project in the works, I could make the raw capture files available.

It was covered, but I guess there were some issues there.

About 20 or so people (last I checked) managed to finish downloading it, though. WinRAR tried to tell me the archive was corrupt, but it looks like it all extracted okay, and I did a "force recheck" in uTorrent and everything looks good.

But now there are no other peers, so I guess someone's going to have to pick back up the torch @_@

I can help seed (with my crappy, sporadic Comcast connection) if you tell me how to prepare the files.

Which torrent client are you using?

Getting the same message but extraction seems ok. Will know tomorrow for sure when I do my double feature of mouse droppings. ;)

Picture this: it's September 1980 and your local smaller theater still has a print of ESB...that they decided to run some more as a filler for the new film they didn't get...

EDIT: Menu works..can I say I got goosebumps?

OMG THAT BONUS! COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED! MY FAVORITE!

Double edit: thanks for re-upping guys. People need this badly.

I couldn't help it and peeked on Christmas morning...the empire has struck back.

A 16mm capture, too. :)

RE: Puggo Strikes Back!

As for preparing the files...unzip into some folder, start the torrent to point at the same spot as where you unzipped. Your client should recheck the files - if it doesn't, that means you started the torrent in the wrong directory. Mine matched up just fine, so there shouldn't be corruption (unless the files uploaded to newsgroups were to begin with).

Ah okay, it's just the bare files. I figured it'd be reupped as an ISO or something.

The same uTorrent I mentioned a few minutes ago ;)
