German 8mm Star Wars. (Kreig crawl and German audio) First reel. Video flips between the projector and the movie.
As the Krieg der Sterne is white with Star Wars written underneath, this was done specially for the 8mm?

Hello,
at first I have to thank all of you for the incredible work you're doing!
I'd love to organize a "private" screening of the Despecialized Edition with german sound on May the fourth in the Ruhr area. But was told by Harmy to wait for his second version or even better to wait for your german version of it. Can you estimate when this will be ready?
I am trying to add the german soundfile of Star Wars: A New Hope to the AVCHD-videofile from the Despecialized Edition using tsMuxeR and burn it on a double layer DVD to make it playable on a BluRay player.
If anyone wants to help me with the videofile or is interested to help organizing the screening, write me a mail StarWarsUltras @ gmx.de

Being German myself, it's awesome to see someone preserving the original "Krieg der Sterne"! :-)
I know it's bugging but when do you plan to release it? :-)
(If it's in a year I'm also fine with it, just interested in what the status of this project is.)
And are you waiting for Harmy's V2.0 or did you already used his "old" versions?
Sorry to bother you guys with all this questions, but to be able to finally see "Krieg der Sterne" again in some good quality (not the crappy, old VHS I have) sounds VERY tempting! :-)

Did anyone ever made a DVD-R capture from the 1993 LDs "Silver Screen Collection"?
(I know the quality would probably suck compared to the 1995 THX or the GOUT DVDs, but still interested in how it looked back then. :-) )

A légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal.Does anyone have access to the "revised" German audio for Star Wars? There's an updated dub out there which includes Han and Luke's conversation in the elevator on the way down to the detention level (This is not gonna work/Why didn't you say so before?/I did say so before.), but all I can find is the earlier version with this dialogue missing. PAL format preferred.

I am ready for the trials!Since Harmy's 2.0 of SW is getting closer, maybe it's a good time to discuss audio options for the German version. Right now I'm creating a 2.0 track based on the GOUT but I'm inserting all the missing lines using the Blu-ray (sorry CatBus, not in PAL). If I can manage to do it I'll update it to 2.1 using Hairy_Hen's LFE-channel.
With the remastered German dub of the Blu-ray I was hoping to use its center channel to update an existing 5.1 track with the remastered dialogue... but is there actually a German (pre-DVD and pre-SE) 5.1 track on any of the German Laserdisc releases? Preferrably one that has already been ripped...
I guess a good English mix would work as well, as long as the channels are discrete and the English dialogue occurs ONLY in the center channel. Hairy_Hen's mix sadly won't work, as it's just an upmix where the dialogue blends into the left and right channels as well.
Also was there ever a German mono mix?

Where am I????Apologies for a quick off-topic question...
Can anyone confirm if the German 2006 Limited Edition release of the full Original Trilogy including the GOUT theatrical release discs have Turkish subtitles on either or both discs? Amazon.de is not too clear so I hoped someone here could advise. ie....
I am more concerned about the subtitles being on the GOUT discs at this time. If they do exist, does anyone have them?
Sorry about this but I figured this was the obvious place to ask. Moving along.....

I am ready for the trials!According to OFDb.de (which is pretty much the best source of information regarding German releases) Turkish subtitles are only on the SE-DVDs, not on the GOUTs:

I am ready for the trials!I was wondering, was there ever a project on these forums about editing the 97SE 5.1-track into something that matches the non-SE-OT?

This post might be interesting for you:
http://forum.cinefacts.de/96260-star-wars-original-und-prequel-trilogy-boxen-18.html#post2153908
Es gab von Krieg der Sterne insgesamt 5 verschiedene Tonfassungen, welche auf teilweise unterschiedliche Geräuschbänder und Effekte beruhten.
70mm Dolby - US
35mm Dolby - US (andere Mischung als 70mm)
70mm Version)
35mm Mono - Deutsch
So pretty similiar to the English version, but:
Selbstverständlich hat man für die deutsche Fassung auf ein hervorragendes IT Master, welches von Ben Burtt erstellt wurde aufgebaut.
It seems Ben Burtt created a new sound master without dialog for all non-English versions, which maybe was similar to the English mono mix (considered the definitive mix by George Lucas at that time). They then added the German dialog to it and created different mixes for 70mm 6-track/35mm stereo and mono.?So all German mixes should have identical sound effects, not like the English 70mm/Stereo/Mono mixes. But they are different to all English mixes or at least the 70mm 6-track and 35mm stereo mix, so adding the German dialog to something like Hairy_Hen's 70mm recreation will give you something never be heard in German cinemas, but of course only if you are aiming for theatrical accurateness.
"Krieg der Sterne" was never released in 5.1 on Laserdisc in Germany, only in Dolby Stereo, which could be the same stereo mix used theatrically in 1978, but in some cases I have strong doubts about that.
At least with the 1995 THX LD and the GOUT, because the missing lines seem to indicate that they just added the German dialog again to a dialog-less master and forgot some parts of it.
The big question of course is, which dialog-less master did they use (maybe the original one created by Ben Burtt in 1977)? And did they changed anything while doing it? (I've heard about some strange echoes in the 1995 THX mix).
Sadly I don't know an answer to that.
So to have an theatrically accurate representation of the German audio you might have to use the audio of one of these LDs:
1993 Silver Screen Collection: (I don't know anything about missing lines / changes with this release)
http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/33866/1130-05/Star-Wars:-Krieg-der-Sterne-%281977%29
1982 P&S:
http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/37677/1130-73/Star-Wars:-Krieg-der-Sterne-%281977%29
or some old VHS tape.
But I personally really don't know which truly represents the original 1978 stereo mix. The German mono mix and the 70mm 6-track of course were never released in any form, so they are probably impossible to get, if they even still exist. (The re-adding dialog and missing lines while doing so are not a good indication that Fox Germany still has them in good condition).
Well, like I said all this is only interesting if you are aiming for a 100% recreation of the theatrical experience of "Krieg der Sterne". Personally I think it would be cool to have one track theatrically accurate as possible and one sounding as good as possible (maybe even in 5.1).

Thanks for the overview.
I guess we can't be picky here. Right now I'm about to finish the "main" soundtrack, which is based on the German GOUT, but including some missing lines that were ONLY heard in the theatrical version, and never on any home video release prior to the Blu-ray.
Other than that we're planning include both the "Silver Screen" and THX tracks as lossless PCM tracks. My idea for the 5.1 track was using the digital broadcast of the 97SE as a basis, but replacing the center channel with the according parts from the Blu-ray (as the remastered dialogues sound goooood). Of course, I'll have to cut out any SE stuff and patch up those areas, but now that I got EditDroid's 5.1 track (thanks to russs15!), it might be a bit easier (even though that one's based on the 2004 5.1 track).

Ohh, I didn't know that, Fox Germany seems to be really good at messing up with the German audio on Star Wars releases, so yeah we really can't be picky.

Sounds good and 4 different German audio tracks should satisfy anyone, especially your idea for a 5.1 track sounds awesome!

With release of Harmy's 2.0 Version, are there any plans for the completely german release yet (intro, greedo scene, outro)?

The plans are there, the intro is mostly done and a lot has been prepared already. But it'll still take a bit until it all comes together. First of all Harmy and I still need to decide on the best way for him to get his lossless video to me. Also I'm planning on creating a few more audio options for the release, so there's still a lot to do.

Padawan LearnerI have a strange version. I bought the special edition on DVD in Russia (oddly, before it was released anywhere else - typical Russian black market). The weird thing is that, while the movie is in English with Russian subs and dub, the title crawl was in German. Very odd.

^ What do you think the source was? (if it's a theatrical recording (with cue markers), that would be the first SE this forum has heard of) There is an 80s Russian voice-over (Gavrilov) version which uses the German VHS as it's video, so it's not unprecedented. But the combination of German video with English audio sure is strange, but may show, as there are subs, that the market wanted to hear the original English.
Here is a great Russian SW site, the owner may know more: http://www.spade.ru/starwarrior/films/rushistory.htm
The page explains the history of SW in Russia, and how the Special Editions were not shown.

Wouldn't the German Premiere broadcast be useful for Harmy as it contains good sources for the old Emperor in TESB and Darth Vader without helmet in ROTJ? As I remember, the picture quality is above GOUT.

Padawan LearnerOk, this is what I have:
Star Wars and Empire. All regions. Released early-to mid 2003. I bought them in October 2003.
Now...the weird thing is: "A New Hope was released on DVD on September 21, 2004".
I got my copies from the legendary Gorbushka in Oct 2003. I was only in Moscow until Christmas 2003, so I know it can't have been later than that because my 3 month visa ran out on 01.01.04.
So, where do these come from? For sure they are special editions. They're clearly not VHS copies. And, from what I can gather, these discs predate the German Premiere broadcast.

In English and Russia Lektor (ie, narrated/translated by one person, which is often the case in Russia and Slavic countries)
All on-screen texts and subtitles are in German. No idea why.
I don't know why the SW screen grabs have come out small, but they're the same size as the Empire screen grab (1024x576).
