Better a bad bomb than a bombadI'm a high school science teacher and I've got a nasty cough.
First period I say after a particuarly long series of dry hacks, "Sorry I sound like General Greivous."
Nothing. No reaction. Blank stares.
Curious, the next period I said, "Sorry I sound like Darth Vader." and got a couple small chuckles.
I alternated the rest of the day. Here are the results.
- Greivous: 3 periods of total silence.
- Vader: Small chuckles, scoff of recognition and twice being told "Darth Vader doesnt' cough."
My students are 14-15 years old of a wide range of ethnicities from the lower to upper-middle classes. It's not exactly a scientific study, but it gives me some hope for the future.

Grevious didn't look cool and acted and sounded like a complete buffoon. He didn't do a single thing in his only movie to make him seem threatening or impressive.

First of all, Darth Maul was the greatest Sith out of all the movies.
Second, according to GL, each movie he wanted to bring in one new nasty character. ESB: Bobba Fett, ROTJ: Jabba/Emperor, TPM: Darth Maul AOTC:Jango Fett/Count Dooku, ROTS: General Grevious
So, that's the general analogy.

For a grand total of four minutes. (Counting from the first time we see Anakin in the suit and not before.) Given how prominent Vader was in the ROTS publicity machine, I can't help but feel a little ripped off. ;)

As the kids who grew up with the PT films grow into young adults/adults their love and preference for the PT films over the OT film will change and they will start leaning towards the OT films. The luster of special effects and CGI will wear off as they become older and most will appreciate a real story and screenplay over the circus performing B-movie screenplays of the PT films.
I still feel insulted when PT fans my age still claim we only prefer the OT films because that is what we grew up with and we have fond memories of them.
I grew up with and have fond memories of the made for TV spider-man films but that does not mean I think they are better films than the Sam Rami films. NO...PT fans there is really such a thing as liking something better simply because it is better in every way a film should be.
Also I love how natalie portman at the oscars the other night gave thanks to like three different directors she has worked for and teaching her things and inspiring her through out her career and she failed to mention george lucas even though he directed her in 3 films.

I remembered watching years ago, but can't remember what the hell it was about.
Where as the OT has fans that have watched it over and over since 77.

Thing is, I don't think Power Rangers ever attempted to be much more than what it was, while the PT is filled will all sorts of attempts at being 'intellectual'.

The supposed badassery of Darth Maul has troubled me since the beginning. Sure he looked cool. But his death negates whatever goodwill he had accumulated by that point.
Unless Lucas wanted it to seem like Maul wanted to die, there is no way that he could not have blocked that swing.
Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Jedi KnightEh, could say the same thing about Boba Fett. Doesn't really do anything. Only in like four scenes. Has a stupid death. A few minutes of posing goes a long way.
