Opening Crawl Omnibus

I don't know if there is a general opening crawl thread or not, so I thought I'd make one thread to rule them all have all the information in one spot.

I found a small bit about the typesetting of the crawls.  It seems there isn't any real consistency between any of them, typographically speaking.

EDIT: I'm adding some pictures for reference.  The content and order may change depending on relevancy and discussion.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish memes.

Jedi has three dots ("...") at the end of its crawl, while all the others have four ("...."), including the prequels.

RE: Opening Crawl Omnibus

The Jedi one is grammatically incorrect.  Any ellipsis at the end of a sentence needs to be followed by a period, which totals four dots.

I always thought an ellipsis at the end of a sentence replaced the period, totalling three dots.

Keep in mind the source.

In syntax, an aposiopesis arises when the 'if- clause' or protasis of a condition is stated without an ensuing 'then- clause' or apodosis. Because an aposiopesis implies a trailing off of thought, it is never followed by a period, which would effectively result in four dots.

RE: Opening Crawl Omnibus

I'll counter your wiki entry with another:

The Chicago Manual of Style suggests the use of an ellipsis for any omitted word, phrase, line, or paragraph from within a quoted passage. There are two commonly used methods of using ellipsis: one uses three dots for any omission, while the second makes a distinction between omissions within a sentence (using three dots: . . .) and omissions between sentences (using a period and a space followed by three dots: . ...). An ellipsis at the end of a sentence with no sentence following should be followed by a period (for a total of four dots).

Well, we're not in Chicago, so I say "go sit on it."

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

Well, either way, at least one of the crawls are wrong.

I am.  Does that mean it applies only to me?

This is why I thought that the Special Editions, or at least Adywan, should have redone the crawls. Are the prequels that far off on their settings, I can't tell if they're in there.

While looking for something else, found that on EDITDROID Supplemental 4, they did a recreation of the early crawl.  Not sure of their sources, sightly different spacing then the Sluggo recreation being discussed in the SWBegins thread.

Oh, yeah.  I forgot about that one.  They didn't have a decent set of reference materials at the time, so it is a bit off.
