aka PancakesFor those confused by the fact that Frink's Netflix DVD had no special features or chapter stops:
http://www.slashfilm.com/disney-follows-fox-in-removing-bonus-features-from-rental-dvds/
It's a thing now. My Netflix of Up had all the menus, but when went into the bonus menu to watch Partly Cloudy, when I clicked on it I got a message telling me to buy the retail DVD to watch the extra feature.
Some rental discs don't even have subtitles or closed captioning, which is very not cool if you ask me.

Ointment FlyI'm ok with the bonus features being removed. I prefer it not be done, but I understand the reasoning.
Removing chapter menus, subtitles, CC, etc....extremely lame.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityActual Inception discussion time:
OK, help me figure this out. In the first level, they have the PASIV (Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous, actual name) device, which I can understand. Everyone is plugged into it, drugs put them under, something in the machine ties their subconsciouses together. I get that. It almost makes sense. What I don't get is the levels under that.
So the architect (or dreamer), puts a PASIV device in the dream, which allows them to fall asleep in the dream and dream another layer. But its already a dream, meaning this PASIV device is imaginary. Is it like the Matrix, that if they believe it hard enough it makes it real? I don't understand how imaginary drugs can put you to sleep in a dream that you KNOW is imaginary!

Token Linguistics NerdTrue, but I didn't get the impression that the extractors could influence the dream-world to the extent that the Matrix rebels could. I mean, what's-her-name was able to play around with the laws of physics, rearrange the topography, and change architecture at will, but she still "died" when she got stabbed by Leo's imaginary wife. So apparently there are some "dream-rules" that are unalterable?

of Earth.Sorry, it's just that that image is soooo universally applicable.
Um... I'm not sure. I think that it's just as real as the floors they walk on. Really, if they're all "the one" then they should be able to fly, walk through walls, etc. without regard to any "thing" in the dreamscape.

of Earth. What are your theories on the end? Real or not real?
If you vote real, then your argument is fairly complete.
But, if you vote not real, then you have to speculate- when did the unreality begin? Before the movie? Coming out of Limbo with Mal? Going into Cillian Murphy's dream, layer #1? What?

Token Linguistics NerdI think it's real, for two reasons:
First [projected, a priori-influenced] reason: the totem totally starts to waver just before we cut to the credits, creating the impression that it's about to fall.
Second [actual, honest] reason: I'm a sucker for a happy ending.

That was my thought too.
Then again, wasn't the shot of his kids the same (right down to their clothes) as in his dream? I think we are meant to be undecided.
And...sequel?

of Earth. That's part of the argument against. There are 2 actors playing each kid, so therefore it's possible they meant the kids to age 2 years between his memories and the ending of the film.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityYes, I've watched for it, two sets of actors, SIMILAR clothes, but not identical. They just happened to be digging the same spot years later.
And Christopher Nolan says the top fell, so there's that.

of Earth.I actually think it would be pretty hard to notice in the movie itself... unless you watch the credits.
credits on imdb.com:
Claire Geare ... Phillipa Cobb - 3 years
Magnus Nolan ... James Cobb - 20 monthsTaylor Geare ... Phillipa (5 years)
Johnathan Geare ... James (3 years)
It sure seems like they're wearing the same clothes and taking the same actions. Almost to give you the sense that something is off and it is probably fake... but giving you older actors so that it's not completely obvious.

It could be Leo's dream but someone in it reshaped it to make him think the kids had aged and had different clothes on.

...kinda.
... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"
