Nostalgia and Nostalgic Memories

I'd like to talk about this subject:

We've always had two Blockbusters around where we live, one in downtown Wyandotte(which is now a medical clinic) and one in Lincoln Park on Fort St. I think we most often went to the store Lincoln Park, but once in a while we went to the Blockbuster in Wyandotte. One of those times when we visited the Wyandotte store I got to pick out a video game, which at the time the system I had was a SNES, the game I picked out looked weird with a strange yellow spaceman on the front of the box, I almost thought it was a mecha-type thing because I could see a characters reflection in the spaceman's visor.

We rented it, it was the first game you could name your character and it would show up in game as the name you chosen. It was my first RPG I've ever played. I took it back to Blockbuster without getting very far in the game. About a year later, I rented it again this time it came with the strategy guide, which was pretty beat up. We ended up liking this game so much we bought it.

What a weird name for a game.

That game stinks.

I have a lot on this subject.  I'll be back when I have some time.

I never played Earthbound. Spent most of my time playing SimCity.

Wait a minute....don't we already have threads for talking about videogames?

This isn't just about the vidya. About fond memories from the past.

I miss mid 2002 - August 6, 2003. Good times for me in that part of my life.

The advanced text editor is responsible for that.

I have nostaligia for the mid-to-late 90's ... I owned a lot of comic books back then.

this thread details a lot of my thoughts on nostalgia.  Right now it's tearing me apart and I'm close to trying to deny reality in order to reach that aesthetic resonance thing.  I'll come back with a real nostalgic story or two later.

edit: Anchorhead's right.  I really haven't experienced anything yet.  Just in case anyone was wondering if I ever came to that realization, haha.  It took looking at this really long specific reflection about my life I wrote three years ago.  Even though those moments I discussed still resonate with me to a certain degree, I get that they're all child's play.  And they were from the perspective of a lonely, nostalgic person -- who wanted someone else, a very special person, to know everything about him.  When they basically already did.  But shit means nothing, even now.

Here's hoping he reads that =p

I just introduced my kids to ThunderCats yesterday.  They love it.  I was about the age of my boys when I first watched it.  It's fun to see it again.  It's nice that there's a good preservation available of the first five episodes, as the official DVDs are missing little bits here and there.  It's amazing that after all these years, I picked up on a lot of these subtle cuts.

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.  Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.
