I wasn't aware we'd ever put down arms. ^_~ The only problem is, my troops just recently got knocked off af cliff, and YIYF took tactical advantage of it.

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don't exist... then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks... and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming... Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

The image size in the tags really needs to be dealt with though, it is INCREDIBLY annoying to see the same ginormous picture (and usually pointless picture) over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

I agree. I even feel that mine are a little OTT (although I never usually have an image in my sig and will remove them after teh World Cup)

I completely agree with Sess about the sig images. I wish that could be controlled by the software somehow.

The rectangular banners that aren't more than 50 pixels are fine, in my opinion.
Then again, I have my resolution set at 1280x800. So, if the sig pictures seem big on my screen, I hate to think what they look like on the people that have monitors that aren't capable of anything more than 800x600 or 1024x768.

The new software has profile settings that let you adjust image options. You can either display images or have all images in posts replaced with URLs. Images within post text and images within signatures can be toggled on and off independently.
One other option I'm considering is requiring signature images to be hosted locally on ot.com's server. That way, signature image size can be controlled just like avatars and profile photos (which are restricted to certain dimensions and file sizes in the new software).

Jay don't consider this question as pressure on the software update, it's gonna be ready when it's ready, don't worry about it, but, just for curiosity, how much has it been done? Like, in percentage? Do you feel there's enough for some initial testings, in which we could assist?

You or, anyone here can pretty much do that right now. Except for signatures...
Go to customize, scroll down until you see "
If you are on a slow connection, choose the Standard Graphics mode to decrease download times.", select "Standard", then click "Customize!", and boom images in posts are no longer displayed. It still shows signatures but, Avatars are gone and, images in a post are replaced with the img tags and, the url.
So, aside from signatures it's an option already there.

Honestly, I could skin it and post it for testing this weekend. All the end user functionality is pretty much done. The admin is what's occupying my time now. I want that done before testing though.

I think that's the sticking point that bothers most people.
Also, the current software's settings are global as you said. I've set it up so that avatars, images in posts, and images in signatures can all be toggled on and off independently in the new software.

I agree we better wait until the whole admin-end is done, as those things are pretty much interconnected. Whenever you have it online for some initial testings let us know, and we'll do our part

That's exactly what's needed. If our testing reveals no bugs or errors, I'll be extremely suspicious. I'm not that great of a developer

I'm currently working on full text search, which is a huge handicap for the current software, as well as moderation and banning capabilities. My goal is to have a beta that's ready for mod testing this weekend and wider public testing the week after.
I'm sure we'll encounter some bugs, but I think it's important to just get it up already so I can make improvements based on user feedback.
