I my self an a new generation Star wars fan and a lot has been said about about the prequels and the special editions. I can understand both George Lucas’s and the fans Point of view. As a kid I loved TPM ATOC and ROTS and the original trilogy the same. Now as a late teenager, my opinion of ROTS has changed only a little, but my thoughts on TPM and ATOC certainly have.

Last year I viewed two popular Fan edits, The Phantom Edit and Star Wars: A New Hope revisited and i loved them. So I looked at ATOC and said “well, Attack of the Clones isn’t perfect” So I decided to give it a shot. And for the past year I have been working on my ATOC edit. With a new tittle…

“The Dark Side Beckons”

I won’t go into detailof what I have done yet. I will explain my plan for the prequels though. To start off The Phantom Menace is no longer part of the saga. There’s just not nearly enough that happens in it that deals with the sagas over all story. Being Anakin Skywalker’s fall and his redemption. Now My fan edit “The Dark side Beckons.” (ATOC) is the beginning of the saga. With the Army of the Republic being established and Anakin’s mother dying being the turning point to the dark side is a MUCH better way to set everything up for the saga.

So what does this mean for episode III. I still want the saga to be a six chapter story, so I am going to split ROTS into two movies. Episode II is the first half of ROTS going all the way up to Anakin turning to the dark side. Episode III is the rest of it. However this poses a challenge. Episode II will have reinserted scenes that were cut from it to make not a painfully short, but for episode III there’s not any deleted scene from the last half or ROTS so as a student filmmaker I’m likely going to film new scenes of the attack on the Jedi temple. This will intense visual effects and sound editing, for what I plan to do with it, but if can be done it will add a lot to the original 7 minute montage on the Jedi being killed. I want to make the movie all about the fall of the Jedi and the fate of the galaxy.

C-3PO doesn’t appear until the very end at Anakin and Padme’s wedding

Episode II: Purge of the Republic (first half of ROTS)

I am going to insert the seeds of the rebellion.

Remove any mention of the Chosen one, Prophecy, and Midiclorian references.

Reinsert deleted scenes from the droid ship.

Anakin is never named nor referred to as Darth Vader.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. (rest of the Half)

This will require intense Visual and Audio editing. As i said I want to make the whole movie about the fall of the Jedi and the fate of the Galaxy. I will have to film new scenes with the jedi being killed by Anakin and the Clones. I will insert the scenes were the jedi spread across the galaxy get killed (Ki-Ada-Mundi, Alya Sacura, Plo Koon) , in parts of the attack on the Jedi. I will also try to have Qui-Gon-Jinn and JUST maybe a young Ewan Mcgregor defend the temple as well as fight Anakin. Since The Phantom Menace isn’t in my trilogy. They’ll just seem as two other Jedi knights. This will not be easy, especially since I have to juggle this with school my filmaking life and my personal life, but if all goes well it will add a lot to the short montage of the fallen Jedi

IMPORTANT If you or someone you know looks like Hayden Christensen Anakin Skywalker PLEASE let me know because it will be almost impossible to have Anakin Kill the Jedi with out new material.

Also If you want to be a jedi in it that will no doubt be killed let me know as well.

As for changes.

When Obi-Wan tells Padme, that Anakin has gone to the dark side. her reaction will be different. As well as when she realizes Obi wan was telling the truth.

Padme doesn’t die onscreen for now the last we see of her is after she gives birth the Luke and Leia.

Anakin is not named Darth Vader in Episode II .there for we do not see him put into the suit. The last we see of Anakin is when he’s burning on the hill on mustifar, so he’ll be assumed dead. Then at the very end when the star destroyers are orbiting the now under construction Death Star This Darth Vader figure shows up next to the emperor, so we’ll just think he is another henchmen like Count Dooku and General Grevious. This will not ruin the twist of Empire Strikes back so you’ll be able to watch them 1-6.

So my computer’s hard drive decided to stop working. So in order to fix this I had to re do it. In other words the whole hard drive with my Edit stuff is gone.

So yeah, that happened. Now this means I have to Start all over on my edit. However I am debating on whether or not I want to do that. You have to understand it took over a year to get halfway through the edits of just Episode 2 and 3. Also I was balancing that with school and my other film making life. Now that all of that work is gone, I don’t know how I want to go about with this. Especially now that I’m in the of stretch of the end of my sophomore year, which only means one thing, good old finals. And I don’t know how much this summer is going to help with that. I am currently working on getting a short film shot this summer, which will take up a lot of my time, and also I will have to balance this with a part time Job and online school to get ahead on High school credits.

So what am I contemplating? I am bringing the Prequel trilogy into one 2 hour long film. I know this has been done by others. I just feel this is the best way to go. Considering the major loss I encountered, and that fact that I don’t just want to throw the whole project away after a year and a half of work. So I think that’s what I will do. I prefer it to be a whole trilogy but this project has been in the works long enough and I hope to get it out by the end of the year.

So what does this edit have in store for?

Film will start off with the space battle over Alderan, (Formally dubbed naboo) Starting like Episode 4 did.

The film is essentially about Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the Dark side, and The republic’s fall to the empire.

Then it goes down to the city of Theed defending themselves from battle droids. Then we go to Padme and the rest of the Troops trying to get to gunnery the captain yells “Where are the Jedi” Then we cut to Obi Wan Kenobi Qui Gon Jinn and Maul fighting in the hanger. Then going into that room of generators.

For the rest of TPM Padme captures the Viceroy. The Droid control ship gets destroyed by Anakin. (Who doesn’t say a word until we see him as Hayden Christensen.) Then Maul Kills Qui Gon Obi Wan kills maul then we jump forward in time to Episode 2.

Count Dooku Arrives on Coruscant meeting with his master,

Mostly the same beats play out. Padme’s life is in danger, Anakin and Obi Wan are assigned to protect her. Anakin and Padme go to Alderan, (Naboo) and all that. The Big difference is that Anakin is assigned to Obi Wan as an Apprentice Also Obi Wan goes to Geniosis not Kimeno. The Clone army already exists. The councle suspects Their former Jedi councle member Count Dooku is involved with the separatist and Padme’s Execution Attempts. While Anakin is with Padme on Alderan they grow emotionally attached and fall in love. (which you can watch without physical pain:) Then the rest plays out with the Jedi clone army, Count Dooku. Then it all transitions 3 years later to Revenge of the sith, For the most part things are pretty much the same from now on. With some minor Tweaks.

I’ll post more updates and changes as things go. Just a fair warning things will be pretty slow with all the other things i have coming for a couple months.

After starting Episode II and III I have given my dissension to not have Anakin put in to the suit on screen or named Darth Vader, some thought. I have since decided to put that back in.

By taking it out I know it may seem like it would keep Darth Vader’s identity a secret until the Empire Strikes Back, but it really doesn’t. Think about it it’s pretty much given away in A New Hope.

Darth Vader: The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner now I am the master.

Also watching it 1-6 with out Vader in ROTS, is going to be way too confusing with exposition of the back story given away in ANH and ESB .

Obi Wan: A young Jedi named Darth Vader Who…He betrayed and murdered your father.

Yoda: Once you start down the dark path forever will it dominate your destiny, as it did Obi Wan’s apprentice,

Luke: Vader

No Anakin, when did obi wan have, Oh wait…

I think this was intentional from the beginning of star wars when George Lucas made the prequels and I think Every one expected and wanted to see Anakin’s Transformation to the Darth Vader suit. when three prequels were announced.

So that is the only way it will work with out changing the dialog in the Original trilogy witch I’m not going to do.

But regardless what ever order you watch the saga with my prequel trilogy. 1-6, 4,5,6, 1,2,3, or my favorite for new comers, 4,5,1,2,3 and 6. You will be able to watch the prequels with little to no pain.

On another subject I will also color correct the prequels to have a more 35mm look to them. Episode I and III were surprisingly not that hard

One last off subject thing. I am now back in High School and will have to put this on a lower level of my priority list since I have school my film making life and personal life to balance it with. So I will have less time to work on the bigger stuff. Thankfully This year I will have a longer Fall break and holiday breaks this year and hoping it will stay like that in the remaining 2 years of High school left to go.

Change of plans. again

I have have been considering the process of my prequel trilogy edit. I said i was going to split ROTS into 2 films and film new scenes for Episode III but I have decided that I probably may never have the time to pull it off. Leaving it were it is doesn’t work either.

So I have decided to put The Phantom Menace into my Prequel Trilogy. OH don’t worry There will be Drastic Changes made to it.

To start off with a new villain. one that last most of the trilogy. It will not be Darth Maul. Yeah he looked cool but lets face it he had no effect on the story. Now it will be Count Dooku. That’s right. The reason for this is he had much more potential when he showed up in ATOC. So now he will be the one who shows up out the door on naboo. In a way this also parallels the OT. When Obi wan confronts Darth Vader it was said that Obi wan had taught him. In Episode 1 it’s the same thing with Qui Gon and Dooku only switched. Therefor when the Count Shows up at the door the jedi know who he is and they are ready. Yes he will kill Qui Gon. No Obi wan will not cut him in half. Dooku Throws him into the hole, kick Obi’s light saber down the whole. Then he sort of temps Obi Wan to the dark side. Then he just walks away. This will be challenging but if it can be done it will add a lot to 
Liam Nesson and Sir Christopher Lee’s characters. 

Other Changes…

Alter the voices mostly Qui Gon Jinn’s Padme/Queen Amidalla’s and Mace Windu’s. A little less monotone and more upbeat.

Complete Re-dub of Anakin.

Speaking of Anakin it will be implied that he is actually older than he looks. He will be said to be 14. I will also be making him a great pilot and and not so confident. Qui Gon puts him in the pod race but Anakin won’t be some so cocky.

 Complete Re-score and redesign of the sound in the Space battle with some f-16 jets and OT music just to name a few.

OT music every now and again.

Jar Jar is almost gone. He’s here and there but never referenced to, he’s there as a gungan solder, but has no dialog. 

CGI yoda

The Hallway of Shields is not going to exist. 

A lot of Dialog will be modified in ways to support the plot like Count Dooku and other stuff. using bites of the whole trilogy.

Complete Color Correction. I’m using footage from The Phantom Edit because I don’t have the DVD. I have the blu ray but I don’t have a drive. I will color correct, A: to get rid the pink tone B: more film look.
