That's some mighty fine work right there on perhaps the most disastrous shot in the trilogy (and people doubt the validity of this project).

I have allways been very impressed with the level of quality from this project ever since I saw the first couple of pics on the official XO website. You guys need to release a trailer to give us a taste of the final product. A one minute teaser perhaps, showing off some of the finished work? I would really like to order one of the XO T-shirts aswell. When will they be available?

Wow, I'm so impressed by the X0 team, what a fantastic improvement! It's so much more detailed and accurate to the way Star Wars really looks.

Can't wait to sit down and watch Star Wars like this!

The more I look at it the better it gets...and something else happens to me as well.....
I can't help it....its projects like this that make me so mad @ GL....why why why did he choose to screw this film and the rest of the trilogy? I hate him now more than ever....
But thankfully we'll have a OUT we can enjoy, thanks to the X0 team....

I actually started this thread to find out what everyone was doing over the break!
We can post a short clip in Jan, probably of this piece and a couple of others.
It annoys me to that GL didn't just do a new transfer based on the restored footage, this shot is a prime example, they *must* have restored the original footage to be able to create the new shot, which would be the case for 99.9% of the trilogy, it would not have been much of an ask to release a decent OT transfer, as it is we have to cobble it back together as best we can, squeezing as much as possible from the relatively low quality sources available.
It took months to do just this scene, (and it still has some distortion problems) and it is frustrating to know that they have it at Lucasfilm anyway...
But anyway, what are you OTers all up to over the holidays?

Jeez those pics really sparked a lot of interest for me. The difference is amazing. I have to agree with others that this really makes me dislike GL even more, all the money and resources he has at his disposal and he couldn’t give up enough to make a half decent release, pathetic. Compared to the work you guys have done with what could be considered outdated and limited sources just think about how amazing it could look using the originals and restoring with the resources GL has. That’s not to knock the X0 teams work in anyway; this is absolutely phenomenal and looks to put every other Official release to shame.

Quite remarkable. Congratulations.
Also, I notice that is not a very large jpg file: it seems to be showing noticeable JPG artefacting. Implying that the original source is likely a certain degree clearer.
I must agree with your comment about the restored version, Laserman. It is frankly absurd that Lucasfilm is claiming there is no way to make a restored version of the OT, since their first step would obviously have been to restore most or all of the original trilogy footage as it stood. They would only haev had to work hard on a few bits and pieces that had been heavily modified. And what's the likelihood that simply to keep the process straightforward, they did in fact restore everything? Would they really go through all the footage and say "restore minutes 1-33, skip 2 minutes, restore the next 7 minutes, then skip 1 minute, then ... "
I can only assume that Mr Lucas stands on his pedastal and shouts down anyone of his minions who suggests such a thing.
Darth Lucas: I am altering the trilogy. Pray I don't alter it further.

Quick question about the restored X0 picture, you didn't actually use GOUT footage, did you? Is it SC only?

Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.
