Did you do any sharpening for the DVDs? Screenshots from your discs look slightly sharper than the DJ/g-force versions.
I think I did...but not intentionally. There was one section of the g-force script that I meant to remove from my own script, which was part of the "De-ringing" section. Since I didn't leave the whole thing as it was, it wound up having a sharpening effect. But, I was rushing so much to finish this set in time for the Holidays that I completely missed it.
Unfortunately, it also added a haloing effect that became more visible when I tried blowing the "Rebellion" video up to 720p...which is why I'm now starting from almost scratch :/

Han D. SoloLooks great, Mattman. Let me just say that mild sharpening isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can definitely help the picture, it just shouldn't be overdone.

Pure, Unadulterated ManiaAfter a few days of rendering, I've completed my latest 720p raw avi of Star Wars. My anti-aliasing has been upped a touch and edge sharpening slightly increased. Again, this is much grainier than dark_jedi's V3. And, of course, those jagged edges are still hanging around...though I do feel I've managed to decrease them even more.
Also, I've been playing with the colors a bit more, decreasing the red saturation while pushing everything else. The colors are a work in progress. I will probably wind-up releasing separate "color-tweaked" and "not-so-tweaked" versions in hopes of better pleasing everyone.
Here are a few new screengrabs WITH the color changes. With exception to a shot of the opening text, these are the same screenshots dark_jedi used in his V3/BluGOUT thread.

Han D. SoloLooks real nice, and with DJ's reluctance to share online, I'm really happy someone else is doing such a fine job upscaling these and in AVCHD too, which is much more convenient for me than Blu-Ray, thank you!!!
And may I ask (and I noticed this on all the upscales not just yours) why are you leaving those black edges on the sides? I must say that to me they're pretty annoying (nothing I couldn't live with though). :-)

Reluctance? LOL, now you are joining the BS commenting group to, very cool, it is kind of hard to upload when your damn PC is rendering and encoding don't you think?
and the side black bars are there because he IS using g-forces script, that is the way g made it, that is why you see it on our upscales, and because of my "supposed" reluctance, I am GLAD you found what you are looking for elsewhere, what the hell happened to this place?

Han D. SoloSorry, man, reluctance was a wrong choice of word, I definitely didn't mean it that way, I know you're willing to share your work, it's just that you said you weren't sure if you'd be uploading and that you would maybe prefer BD donations. And a BD would be a very expensive coaster for me, because I, nor any of my friends have a Blu-Ray ROM (yeah the technology is a bit behind the times here - not that you couldn't buy BD equipment but it's about 4 times more expensive than in the USA, so having even a BD player is quite a luxury.)
Again, sorry for the misunderstanding. We cool?

Han D. SoloOh and thanks for explaining the edges to me but I still don't quite understand why then are the edges in your encodes thinner than Mattman's?

Pure, Unadulterated ManiaThe black edges were the result of my cropping some of the extra "ick" off of the sides of the gout image. The reason I then added the slight borders instead of expanding the image to the sides of the screen was because of TV overscan. I figured that, with the exception of computer monitors and some TVs, most televisions would make those bars invisible while losing a bit less off of the picture information off of the sides.
I started doing that with several of my custom discs after I noticed it being done on some anime DVDs, like Anchor Bay's U.S. release of The Castle of Cagliostro.

Pure, Unadulterated Maniaand the side black bars are there because he IS using g-forces script
Actually, there is very little of g-forces script left in my current process: only two small sections. The addition of the black bars was something I added myself before I started cannibalizing the g-force script.

Pure, Unadulterated ManiaSoundtrack Usage Notice:
Just a few notes for those who had asked me about using Rebellion's theatrical mixes in their GOUT projects.
1) Star Wars will not sync flawlessly to GOUT due to the chapter-branching function it uses.
2) The Empire Strikes Back will sync to GOUT at 23.976 fps with no problems.
3) Return of the Jedi will only sync to the NTSC version of GOUT at 23.976 fps. The PAL release has a few extra frames midway through the film when the Rebel fleet is first seen...which I did not know until I recently picked the PAL edition :/
