I have not been and I think I am going to give it a miss... Could anyone who has seen it imagine it being superior with John Williams music?
Or is it just that bad and even music won't save it?

Tauntaun herder-Damn Fool Idealistic CrusaderThe Zimmer score is almost nonexistent. (Interestingly the soundtrack release has been encoded with DTS X, a 11 channel surround system designed for regular 2 channel headphone usage.)
And if you simply dropped in the original Williams score, as great as it is...it wouldn't have any real effect.
You know, it wouldn't have been that difficult to have a plot that questioned the idea of Superman in a modern context, while still actually maintaining a sense of both the character and escapist fantasy. But that's a huge no-no in Nolan-world.
Although being heavily shortened, the best "Superman" feeling I've gotten in the recent past was the DCAU dtv release Superman Vs. The Elite. That's a Superman story!

The image is just too dark and the overall feeling is IMO even more gloomy than in the Dark Knight trilogy which doesn't fit for Superman at all. Williams' music wouldn't fit into it at all. MoS just isn't fun. Well, I laughed to myself a couple of times during never-ending fights because I couldn't care less even if the whole Earth would be destroyed.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Superman tells Lois, "I'm really hungry from all that fighting. Do you like pancakes?"
Lois responds, "I don't like pancakes. I love them. But all the roads are destroyed."
Superman then says, "Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads. Grab my arm, it's IHOP time."
Don't do that. They'll believe that.
I liked it, But then I really wasn't looking forward to another token Superman film. I guess it pushed the right buttons for me and didn't for a lot of you guys.
Sure the film has flaws - product placement, lens flares, underwritten characters...But I loved the design of a lot of the stuff and had fun watching it.
Hard to recommend since it seems to really be hit and miss with people.

I love music more than anything in life, but great music never turned a bad movie into a good one. Ever.

Well, at least the soundtrack of Broken Arrow made the film a little better than it actually was.

Double standards!!I was Ditto-ing the whole comment, more specifically the "great music never turned a bad movie into a good one. Ever." bit.
Considering this is meant to be a "realistic" take on Superman... how come he can fly? How come he can shoot lasers out of his eyes? Why does he wear something as impractical as a cape? How come he has X-ray vision?
You want a "realistic" version of Superman then he should only be able to leap tall buildings in a single bond, and be super strong.
Don't get me wrong, I really really love Superman, he's my absolute favourite Superhero, but with Snyder, Goyer and Nolan trying to portray the character realistically it just brings those other things to the forefront.
I also hate his costume, it's so bland and muted. Totally unlike what Superman's costume should be.

I too haven't seen it. The 'realistic' approach is never going to work with a character like 'Superman'. Batman, yeah, because he's a regular guy and you can pull it off. I would like to see a Superman reboot done in the same vein as Raimi's Spidey version. He captured the spirit of it perfectly.

South Jersey DevilJust saw this movie. It wasn't terrible, but it was not as good as the first two Christopher Reeve Superman movies. One warning: this movie is not for kids. Way too violent. It kept me sort of entertained for the two hours, but there was too much and it felt too rushed. I remember the Reeve movies gave kids a Superman to look up to and the movies had a much positive feel to them. How many kids when home from the movies after watching Superman I and II, humming the Williams theme? No kids will go home from this movie humming an music from it. The performances weren't near as bad and people have been saying. While not Oscar worthy, they were not not as flat and empty as were the performances in the PT.
[spoilers]
I thought Pa Kent was an idiot for being upset with Clark for saving the people on the bus. Was he supposed to let them die??? How would he have felt if Clark was a normal human and some other kid was from Krypton and that kid let Clark die when he could have saved him? Another thing, no way, NO F___ING WAY, the real Superman would stand there and watch his father die when he could save him.
[/spoilers]
maybe I will have more to say once I let the movie digest. We shall see.
