The Zimmer score is almost nonexistent. (Interestingly the soundtrack release has been encoded with DTS X, a 11 channel surround system designed for regular 2 channel headphone usage.)

And if you simply dropped in the original Williams score, as great as it is...it wouldn't have any real effect.

You know, it wouldn't have been that difficult to have a plot that questioned the idea of Superman in a modern context, while still actually maintaining a sense of both the character and escapist fantasy. But that's a huge no-no in Nolan-world.

Although being heavily shortened, the best "Superman" feeling I've gotten in the recent past was the DCAU dtv release Superman Vs. The Elite. That's a Superman story!

The image is just too dark and the overall feeling is IMO even more gloomy than in the Dark Knight trilogy which doesn't fit for Superman at all. Williams' music wouldn't fit into it at all. MoS just isn't fun. Well, I laughed to myself a couple of times during never-ending fights because I couldn't care less even if the whole Earth would be destroyed.

I liked it, But then I really wasn't looking forward to another token Superman film. I guess it pushed the right buttons for me and didn't for a lot of you guys.

Sure the film has flaws - product placement, lens flares, underwritten characters...But I loved the design of a lot of the stuff and had fun watching it.

Hard to recommend since it seems to really be hit and miss with people.

Well, at least the soundtrack of Broken Arrow made the film a little better than it actually was.

I was Ditto-ing the whole comment, more specifically the "great music never turned a bad movie into a good one. Ever." bit.

Considering this is meant to be a "realistic" take on Superman... how come he can fly? How come he can shoot lasers out of his eyes? Why does he wear something as impractical as a cape? How come he has X-ray vision?

You want a "realistic" version of Superman then he should only be able to leap tall buildings in a single bond, and be super strong.

Don't get me wrong, I really really love Superman, he's my absolute favourite Superhero, but with Snyder, Goyer and Nolan trying to portray the character realistically it just brings those other things to the forefront.

I also hate his costume, it's so bland and muted. Totally unlike what Superman's costume should be.
