Thought I would bring this film up for discussion...

I love the originals with Christopher reeves but I also admire what zack snyder did with Dawn of the dead, 300, Watchmen but unfortunately that is where it ends for me I never bothered with any of his other films after Watchmen even though I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought he did a brilliant job.
Christopher Nolan and Goyers Dark knight touches to the Superman franchise casts quite a shadow over how this might turn out... My personal favourite Nolan film was "The Prestiege" and not the dark knight but I did enjoy the dark knight trilogy very much.
Here are some early reactions to the film

At the moment This is the only film that remotely interests a cinema visit... I don't go much these days because I have lost a lot of faith in all the over the top stupid CGI rubbish that keeps getting rammed into my face... And yeah it's another remake.
What are your thoughts on it?... Will you go straight to the cinema?... Will you wait for the reviews?... Have you like me nearly lost faith in these big blockbusters although I want to believe it will be great?... Do you feel nothing could surpass reeves and the originals? Will you miss John Williams music?
In fact the more I think about it... that's why I wanted to start a thread on it to see what others think and believe me I really want to like this film but I remain a bit cautious on it.
Hey, it's me.

Personally I think that with there being so many Superhero films and remakes about these days, something has to be very special to stand out from the crowd. Superman is the daddy of all superhero films. I loved the Reeves films (well, I and II anyway) so I think for any remake or reimagining of such a character it needs to be different from what's been before. Big set pieces and up to date SFX mean pretty much nothing. They certainly won't be remembered the day after you've seen the film if the story and script weren't super (sorry the pun) tight and it wasnt intelligently done with endearing characters. Which goes for any film, regardless to it being a fantasy film or not. Recently, TDK trilogy has been the barometer for superhero films for me, but Superman is an alien so its going to be that much more difficult to make him a grounded character you can actually route for aside the usual, "yeah kick his ass Superman!" The trick is to make the characters around him endearing and believable for it to work.

Double standards!!I'm a huge fan of Superman, so I'm pretty pumped to go see this... Then again, I was pumped to see Star Trek Into Darkness and that was pretty meh

Cheers Bingo... I had a great time with all the beards lol
@greenpenguino that is actually my point ....Everything now is a remake they can't come up with anything new... It get's remade differently and after all the hype it possibly ends up as a... As you say "meh"
I have been conned too many times of late with cinema... It's really made me turn my back and look over my shoulder..
I hope it will be great but... gonna wait....
"hey it's me" has a good point the market is totally saturated with super hero films... Superman reboot could very well become a drop in the ocean... Will it stand out from the crowd in the sense it has a good story and good characters that will give us something to remember or will it be a load of trash and a failure... Not saying the originals cannot be super seeded but it's the baked in ideas from 78 that may very well spell doom for this.
not that I don't have an open mind but it is what it is

I just knew Wikipedia would have an article titled Superman in film
I guess Puggo is thinking of "Superman and the Mole-men", or the serials?

legendary but little-known Jedi MasterIt was a TV series. 104 episodes - nothing to sneeze at. Look up "Adventures of Superman" and "TV series". I watched reruns of it all the time when I was a kid. Batman too.

I am ready for the trials! It's too bad Superman Returns is perceived as a failure simply because it didn't earn crazy ass Dark Knight levels of money. I enjoyed it.
I'll give the new version a chance, but that costume is going to take getting used to. Ever since Joel Schumacher gave Batman a butt crack and nipples, superhero outfits look more kinky than fearsome or inspiring. ;)

Gotta agree with that. I enjoyed Superman Returns aswell.

I am ready for the trials!Well it's directed by Zack Snyder (which should set up a red flag) but Christopher Nolan is involved; it could be okay. But why is Superman bearded in parts of the film? Otherwise there seems to be a good cast here, but Snyder is my biggest concern.
Sounding like a broken record since May 2006.

South Jersey DevilIt won't work for me if it doesn't use the John Williams Superman theme.

Ce n'est pas DuracellEnergizerNothing much about this movie looks or sounds that appealing to me. While I think Cavill looks right for the part - and as a fan of the early modern age comics, I'm partial to a redhaired Lois - I don't like the grim tone it looks like they're going with for the film, I'm not keen on the use of Zod as the villain, I'm not fond of the whole "stranger in a strange land" aspect they're going with for Clark's/Superman's characterization, and I utterly loathe that ugly, piece-of-shit wetsuit they're calling a costume.
I'll wait until more details about the movie come out there before I make any decisions on whether or not to see it, though.
God doesn't think in terms of black or white - or even shades of gray - but in big, bright, bold hues of blue and orange.

I am actually really looking forward to it, probably more than any other movie this year. So far, I have enjoyed all of Zack Snyder's direction, I think he has a good eye for interesting visuals. I love the Dawn of the Dead remake; I really enjoyed the stylistic visuals of 300 and how true it was to the source material; same with Watchmen, but it was perhaps too faithful to the graphic novel most of the time, yet my biggest complaint about the film is the ending that greatly strays from the original; and I even enjoyed Sucker Punch to a certain degree, it was a mess of a movie and kind of fails at what it was trying to say by becoming little more than what it was meant to condemn, but the atmosphere of that film has a very attractive grittiness to it.
Zack Snyder directing with Nolan producing, I honestly couldn't ask for anything better. Casting seems really great too. Of course, now that I am really excited about it, it will probably be a massive disappointment to me even if it is pretty good.

Are we sure that means anything significant?

Absolutely right there Frink... Although the Goyer connection is there....
It ultimately means he put his money in to it and has a say but probably not creative control only a advisory role... But don't quote me I am no expert when it comes to what producer means.
