Thanks for the update -1, great to hear the project is steadily progressing.

Looking forward to some samples of the filmguard cleaning process.

I no longer have access to either so I'll prolly just have to wait until someone puts it somewhere else...

we're thinking bd-25,full frame mkv (at 1080p, that will have to

be corrected for aspect ratios for people with projectors) , and a dvd-9,

as the main sources,

and i'm sure there will be dvd single layer,mp4,

and avi versions from those.

for those without myspleen access, there's people

here that will give you invites. file sharing sites aren't

too reliable anymore.. i guess someone could put it up

on rapidshare/mediafire/zshare or something, but it would be pretty

slow unless you had a premium account.

This sounds very exciting! Thanks for this update, -1. I can't wait. Myspleen sounds like a good torrent site to upload to; considering how many ot.com members are willing to give out free invites, it's a perfectly reasonable option.

Negative1, Harmy, DJ (and everybody I forgot to mention right now) - you are my personal heroes. I want to be able to watch at home the movies with which I fell in love as a kid/teenager, and thanks to YOU guys it WILL be possible.

Thanks again to everybody working on these fantastic releases. I hope George hires somebody who will take some "measurements" how many people will download these preservations and recreation and understand that he can make more money if he releases the movies officially.

I am of course willing to seed everything so that all old fans can get what they want

George knows very well that the originals would sell way better than the special editions. He just wants people to watch his "vision" and forget the original magic. And it's not like he's in need of money.

That said, I'm also glad this site exists, and it's hard-working members!

It looks like I have re-started lurking at the right time, this is incredible news!

I assume full frame means no black bars to fill 16:9 image so how does that exactly work on TVs to get it right?

If it is full frame you can select letterbox on your blu ray player and it squishes the picture and adds the black bars.

That would only be true for a DVD source (as the image is stored at a 4:3 ratio - although anamorphically). With an HD source it's a bit more difficult, and probably impossible with most TVs: 1080p material ALWAYS has a 16:9 aspect ratio (1920 x 1080 pixels). The 2.35:1 image of SW would fill an area of 1920 x 817 pixels, so the image would have to be compressed vertically by about 76%, whereas the usual anamorphic-DVD is scaled vertically to about 70% of it's original height.

As far as I know there are no anamorphic Blu-rays - at least none that use it to their advantage (some HDTV-camcorders record at 1440x1080 anamorphically, which gets stretched to 1920x1080 when played back). So I guess TVs don't support this, as there's never a case where they have to. I don't know if it's different with projectors.

When played from a computer though this shouldn't be a problem, as most software players support free scaling of the image.

So still, for archival purposes a full frame 1920x1080-MKV would be the best choice, I guess.

Sorry, I misread  -1's post, didn't see the word MKV. I thought he was talking about BD-25 with full frame, but he meant BD-25 and a full frame MKV. That's what you get for being too fast and enthuastic reading these, LOL.

Negative 1 - I tried to PM you but it said you've reached your limit. I've been trying to catch up on this thread.  I would love to see some shots of what you've accomplished so far, can I still join your site or is it gone now??

Brooks, he took his site offline a couple months ago, and hasnt posted any screenshots since then.

That's cool, I understand the need for discretion, I'm just really psyched to see what it's looking like :)

Also -1, you probably don't need it but if there's anything I can do to help I'd be thrilled to contribute.  I have 10+ years of audio editing experience and also I've worked with photoshop professionally.  I have a decent amount of premiere experience and a tad of after effects too.

RE: Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

was checking out the color corrected version

of reel 1 this weekend.. looks very cool.

there's a few anomalies, like a small red

tint at the bottom of the initial chase scene.

leia looks great.. there are some scenes that

are naturally darker than you've seen before:

r2d2 and c3p0 in the escape pod sequence.

some of the r2d2 in the canyon and the jawas..

(finally get to see what the coloring on that looked like!).

there a lot of natural grain throughout, but most of it

will remain.. basically a lot of dust and dirt to cleanup.

it's a bit more prominent then i thought, but we were

prepared for it. very exciting getting the first previews.

i can honestly say, i've never seen star wars look like

this, colorwise and retaining the feel of THE original

as it was actually meant to be. definitely a step back

in time.
