Making of Return of the Jedi (the book) Thread

"Random House has announced, so now I can: The Making of Return of the Jedi is a go. Starting research next week... Pub date: fall 2013."

If you've got an idea for him to research, now might be the time to send it in:

Oh, I got a few!

Will the legend of George backseat directing be laid to rest?

Was Dave Prowse "punished" for alleged script leaks?

Nobody watching the dailies ever noticed Oola's wardrobe malfunction?

Who the heck is "Nicki" in the cast credits anyway? (Lucas was asked this at the 10th anniversary celebration, and even he didn't know!)

Are Max Rebo and Hooter long lost brothers? ;)

The director thing is tricky since warsies love to say george directed it, but I just dunno. If Marquand had lived, he'd be doing conventions and talking about all the daily decisions involved shooting Luke vs. The Emperor, Admiral Ackbar and Jabba and we'd probably have a different picture. There actually seems to be a lot more anecdotal stuff out there for Spielberg directing Poltergeist than there is for Jedi. (also, Nicky was one of the ewoks)

I'd want to know of any of the scenes of the Death Star threatening to blow Endor away were filmed.  The novel hinted at them.

Well, "nobody" noticed Leia's wardrobe malfunction, either. Not that I'm complaining though. Silly question! :P

Pics or it didn't happen.

You will not. None of us will, except for a very old and dying Ziggy Stardust who will watch it through teary eyes as he remembers us all.

I'd like to know more details about the cut scenes, like the tatooine Sandstorm scene, the extended endor bunker raid scene, the lightsaber-building scene, etc.

Also, something about 'return of the ewok' would be nice, since it was filmed during the filming of the movie.

That's all I can think of right now.

Would be nice to see more details on Sandstorm, saber and bunker deleted scenes. Maybe more info on the 'lightman' idea.

There are times I think the OT has been more carefully scrutinized frame by frame than the Patterson and Zapruder films combined!

The Patterson film is the Bigfoot footage, right?

Yes it is. It's been through the kind of film scanning and enhancement used to analyze crime scene and spy photos even.

It's probably one of the reasons Peter Mayhew was strongly cautioned not to go wandering off in costume during the location shoot for Jedi. ;)

... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"
