Just another officer transported to MarsThere exists a photo of Lucas standing in front of the EditDroid with an image of Vader's meditation chamber on the screen. It's seen in this preview for the EditDroid documentary.
Does anyone have a decent copy?

I am ready for the trials!I'll make a wild guess, and suggest it might be from either the book about ILM, or "George Lucas:The Creative Impulse" that was part of the DC Laserdisc set, although it was sold on it's own.

Just another officer transported to MarsThanks for the heads up. I've found those other shots about, but I'm specifically looking for the shot of Lucas as a tie-in to my The Editor post. For a guy who loves editing so much, it's surprising that there are no shots of him at a KEM or Moviola (or EditDroid for that matter).

Haven't seen the pic before, but trying to find it came across this home video:
This is from April 30th 1984 at the NAB National Association of Broadcasters 62nd Annual meeting in Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Con in 1984 showing off the debut of the EditDroid. A Convergence and George Lucas Films venture.
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AolyzBMHAJE
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27hVFq2RB1w
Nothing to enlightening. Although Jedi is shown on the monitor, in the second vid. As this system used LaserDisc's wonder if one of them ever made it's way into the collectible's market?

There is video footage of him editing/analizing Empire on a KEM/moviola:

I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

Padawan LearnerOh, jeeze, I HAVE that photo somewhere! If I could only remember where the hell it is. It was attached to an article about how Lucas had pioneered this bizarre electronic gizmo that would let you edit a film non-linearly. I wonder what ever happened to that idea? Oh yeah...it became the ONLY way to edit.
Anyways...I think..I THINK it's from Discover magazine from '84, in a cover article called "Computerizing the Movies". I'll poke around, but I think my copy is stuffed away somewhere at my parents place. That should give you a starting place at least.
Hah...just found the text online, and it goes on to talk about this other computer he's developed which can produce animation, and is called a 'Pixar'. The other tech is some esoteric piece of hardware for mixing audio that probably never went anywhere, called an ASP. Jeesus, to hell with the haters - Lucas is a damn visionary.

There don't seem to be any copies on Ebay right now. Wish I could search my old mags, because this cover is awfully familiar!

Joliet JakeAnd awful, too, if you don't mind me saying so. The proportions look all screwed up: look at how small his shoulders and torso are in correlation to his head and hands. To say nothing about the lightsaber blade.
... And they had 'The Empire Strikes Back', the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn't he! "Children, count up to ten." "Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten". No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One... Two and three have not been made." "Two and three have not been made! What should they be?" "What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk... who needs a punch up the bracket!"

What's a "Jeesus"?
It's like a 'jeebus', and strays just wide of attracting the out of proportion ire of right-wingers with no sense of humor.
And, yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm POSITIVE that's where the pic is from.
