Chief Architect of Cynical MoralitySo, no one here has either set? Someone who knows the pain of bad color jobs?

Han D. SoloDJ says he's seen it and he said it looked great. But then he says he likes the SW 2004SE colours... ;-)

LOL, I never said I fully like those colors, they definitely need to be toned back a bit, but it is better than the GOUT colors, which as you know are weak, colors is such a touchy subject anyways, that is why now I try to just stay out if it altogether.
But back to FOTR, all I say is watch this movie yourself, the green is NOT as bad as they lead us to believe, and most of the people damning this set before release, are now singing a different tune after seeing it themselves, and so far from all the reports at Blu-ray.com and other places, this is what WB and PJ want, so until something comes up otherwise, it is what it is.

Han D. SoloYeah, I guess it'll best to judge for myself when I actually see it. And if I don't like it, I'm just gonna colour correct it, because from what I saw of it, it looks incredible in terms of detail and overall clarity ;-)

I am ready for the trials!I know this thread's a month old, but the link in the "save star wars dot com" thread brought it to my attention.
Yeah, I was hoping those early screenshots posted back in June would turn out to be erroneous, but that's actually what the final discs look like.
Personally, I'm waiting until they release competent transfers of both versions. The theatrical blu-rays were of such low quality, and people are so misinformed that they largely passed it off as "the way they've always looked."
As for the color-timing issues on the new FOTR EE blu-ray, well, there are so many factors to consider that I won't go into. What I will say is that the "dissolve to white" after Arwen saves Frodo from the Nazgul is now a "dissolve to a heavily green-tinted white." There's a green tint over the entire running time of the new transfer actually. It's pretty serious evidence that a mistake was made at some point in the pipeline.
Even if they don't do a replacement program, I would hope they fix it by the time the "ultimate" blu-ray comes out (unless, as we've discussed, this really is how PJ and Andrew Lesnie wanted it to look /doubtful).

Green Plastic SkywalkerI'm sure the clarity of the image will overrule the slight color change in my book, especially if this is the way Jackson wants it. He is the man, after all.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityNECROPOST!
I got this set and have been going through the movies bit by bit. FotR does have some tinting, but its not all through the movie, and not so much that anyone would notice unless they we're looking for it. The most surprising part to me is that TTT also has tinting all over it. If you look for it, you'll see it, but the the tints on FotR are just as "bad" as the rest.
The quality is incredible, and the movies are still just as powerful as they were when I first watched them.

Agent 551 of the Temporal Security AgencyI really wish I had space to rip and test fotr, because it still seems to me that the tint is there all throughout the film. If it were deliberate or intermittent, I wouldn't expect it to affect the title cards or the fading to "white" sequence, yet it does. I'll have to give it and TT another look. Nonetheless I definitely agree that the overall quality is quite good.
