"Hooch IS crazy!"You will all be pleased to hear that I was 100% happy with the DVD image for ANH which means ANH is officially complete. Now onto ESB. I have finished capturing and averaging the first LD of ESB and will hopefully do the same with the second tomorrow. :)
I would estimate that so long as I don't encounter any new problems, I should have ESB finished by the end of Friday. :D

Better Grumpy than DopeyI forgot to ask - did you filter out the laserdisc "line drops" present on PAL discs?

"Hooch IS crazy!"Hi Moth3r, No I didn't. That said I can't say I noticed any on the THX set or my '97 SE set. :) However even if I did notice them, I am not sure if I have a filter for Final Cut Pro that would eliminate them...

"Hooch IS crazy!"Apologies for not posting any updates in the last week, I have been unwell with a bad cough and the flu and so there has not been much progress during that time. :( I am just about to start encoding to MPEG2 and AC3 when thats done I will be ready to author the DVD. Once I have watched it and I am happy its okay that will be ESB finished, with just ROTJ left to go.
I will let you know how the DVD turns out :)

"Hooch IS crazy!"I find it interesting how quickly threads can become dormant LOL so I come barring good news! I am watching my 1995 THX ESB DVD as I type and so far things look good! So long as nothing jumps out at me I am happy to call this one finished. :D
Now I do have some less than good news as well. Unfortunately because of delays caused by trying to fix the jaggies issue and my week off with man flu I am not going to hit my target of finishing this release by Christmas. So I am now going to aim for a release early in the new year. (1st or 2nd week of Jan) :)
I am going away on Holiday from the 21st for a week and probably wont have internet access while I am away, so I will say now in advance, Merry Christmas to all who read this thread and a Happy New Year and of course most importantly May the Force be with You All!

Sorry, I've been trying not to clog this one up like I do most others. ;-)

I just thought I would let you all know that the 1995 THX Empire DVD played through fine so that's finished which just leaves Jedi to go. As I said before I am going away for about a week from the 21st Dec so I will get back to work on Jedi when I get home.
Once all 3 DVDs are finished I will put together the covers and disc labels and then I will be ready to upload the release to the newsgroup. :)

Can't wait to see this. Do you have any shots or samples from the OUT? After seeing quite a few older LD transfers others have done, I'm surprised at how good your SE transfers look.
I've been trying to give the GOUT a second chance, but even after seeing it with the stabilization filters applied, the "ghosting" (or whatever you guys call it) is still quite bothersome to me =/

If I get some time this weekend I will post some screen captures from SW and ESB. I plan to start work on Jedi next Friday, so hopefully within a few weeks I should have the whole Coffret finished. :D

Lee,
Your hardwork, updates, and finished projects are all appreciated. This Coffret set will be a great addition to anyone's collection. I know personally I've been waiting to see what they look like compared to the U.S., U.K., and Japan versions....this might be the best of the bunch and that can only benefit everyone here.
Cheers

"Hooch IS crazy!"Sorry everyone, it was a busy weekend so I didn't get time to put any screen caps together. I will try and sort something out in the next few days depending on how busy my evenings are. :)

"Hooch IS crazy!"Once again my apologies for not posting any screen caps I have been somewhat preoccupied with the possible colour improvements to the GOUT as well as other real life issues.
I do have some good news however, capturing has begun for the Coffret ROTJ discs. I am aiming to have all the LD and VHS footage captured by the close of play Sunday. As long as I don't run into any problems turn around time should be about a week once capturing is done.
As always I will keep you all posted with developments. :)

"Hooch IS crazy!"Hi everyone, I have some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that I have captured 3/4 of the Coffret ROTJ, that just leaves the last side plus any VHS footage.
The bad news is there will probably be a 1-2 week delay in this set being finished. The reason for this is that I was watching my ANH DVD this week and I realised the picture looked overly dark and washed out, when I went back to the original captures it is clear from looking at them in a histogram and vector-scope that I need to colour correct the black/white/saturation levels. I have done this now however it will take about 48 hours per film to re-render the video hence the delay.
I plan to carry on with ROTJ and get that finished (I will colour correct this as I work on it) then I will go back and fix the other two. Clearly my hands off approach to filtering was too hands off!

Glad to hear! Can't wait, it'll be worth it. This is going to be released on a.b.starwars right?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not so hot on all the rampant color correction that goes on here (especially since NONE of us can even agree on any particular settings). I'd rather just have a nice raw Laserdisc transfer, and whoever wants to play with it further can have a nice base to start from.
Ya know?
No offense or anything, that's just my feelings on the issue.

Better Grumpy than DopeySetting black/white points and colour is not really colour correction, merely calibration of the capture settings to ensure that the result is as close to the laserdisc as possible.

"Hooch IS crazy!"My appologies if colour correction was the wrong term to use, its just this is what my NLE (Non Linear Editor) refers to it as. :)
For those that are interested all I am doing filter wise is adjusting the input white/black levels using a waveform monitor, carefully and conservatively increasing the saturation using a vectorscope and finally fixing a CUE (Chroma Upscale Error) problem caused by the Apple DV codec.

Okay, cool. I was a little bit worried.
