It's called "The Gathering." I wouldn't say "don't watch it," because it's not bad per se. My opinion is that it's just not quite as good as the series itself. But seeing it won't hurt anything, just so long as you know going into it that (a) there are a few character changes between the pilot and the series; (b) it's not absolutely essential to the plot of the series, though it does provide some interesting non-essential backstory; and (c) in the opinion of many Bab5 fans, the pilot and, to a slightly lesser degree, season 1, are a bit uninspired compared to seasons 2-5.

Additionally, if you do want to watch it, just be aware that it's not included in the Season 1 DVD set. As twister111 pointed out, you want to look for either the movie collection or the 2-dvd The Gathering/In the Beginning set.
Well, since our friend doesn't have the movies, I suppose I'll be fine with the series then. Thanks!

If anyone's interested, I found a working torrent of the 1993 (pre-SE) version of the Babylon 5 pilot on Demonoid.

Just saw the first part of the BBC's new sci-fi show Outcasts.

I know first episodes are often problematic but it was dull, really dull, imagine five largely uneventful minutes of the Galactica crew on the Algae Planet stretched over an hour with less laughs.

It was really badly directed too.

For example, dialogue where one person interrupts another is so massively telegraphed the actors might as well speak the ellipsis'.

The cast should work, there are some good actors in there, hopefully it will pick up a bit so I give at least another episode but there are only six parts so the production should have gone for a stronger beginning.

I remember they even worked that line into the Episode 1: Racer N64 game (although I think it was rerecorded). It would play whenever you repaired your engines :P

It's going to find its way into my edit, one way or another.

I get so MAD at "Face Off."

I just wish they'd cut the reality show cliches and little personal ticks, and show some of the make-up work.

Watched RLM's review of Insurrection and, then wanted to watch an episode of Kings on Hulu. I chose to watch Kings Insurrection episode.

Kings Insurrection >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ST: Insurrection

(Translation:
Kings Insurrection is far better written, acted, directed, shot, story is better than Star Trek: Insurrection movie.)

I couldn't have said it better Boost."Face Off" is a great idea with poor execution.

I seriously hope I will live enough to see the original Star Wars trilogy in this quality
You will not. None of us will, except for a very old and dying Ziggy Stardust who will watch it through teary eyes as he remembers us all.

Loved the last episode of The Office. (most of this season has been excellent, really) When are Erin and Andy gonna get back together?!

Agreed, it was a great episode.  Every time I'm ready to quit watching, the writers remind me that the show is still capable of being hilarious.  I'll probably drop it after Carell leaves, but I'll watch a few episodes after 'cause I'm curious as to how they're going to do it.

Anyway, this is about a week late, but I watched the original V on Netflix Instant.  Thing is, I assumed it was a 3-episode miniseries (not sure why I did), so when I got to the end of episode 2, I was furious that the third wasn't there.  Then I was shocked that they ended the miniseries on such an indecisive note.

Then I started to watch V: The Final Battle, and lost interest about ten minutes in.  I'm going to give it another shot in a week or so.

The 1976 BBC production "I, Claudius". I am now on episode 4 of 12.

What a well written production.

I think its Captain Jean Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise.

I CLAVDIVS is an amazing series.

I've just finished re-watching the Granada Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes from beginning to end.

The later ones when Jeremy was very unwell are difficult to watch but not as bad as I remembered them (The Three Gables is the only really wonky one but it's a delight to see Petunia Winegum and Brett in the same frame even if the whole thing is a bit of a mess).

I beleive it... but sometimes those BBC production values are all I can see. I rented "I Claudius" after I had just watched "HBO's Rome" and I my eyes just couldn't take the step down.

It's leagues ahead in terms of writing, actor direction, acting than Rome (which I enjoyed a great deal) that it's easy to forgive the stage play look of the thing.

Elizabeth R is a much more compelling watch than Elizabeth and The Tudors in much the same way.

RE: Last web series/tv show seen

Anyone else watch The Middle on ABC? It's an alright show, but what really gets my wife and I is that it takes place in Indiana. Not just Indiana, southern Indiana. Nearest we can figure, it pretty much is supposed to take place in a clone of the town we live in.

Husband works at a limestone quarry, wife had a second job at the local state park doing historical reenactments, another character mentioned going to the Persimmon Festival, they go up to Brown County for fun...

If you want to see the exaggerated Hollywood version of where I live, watch it.
