Unbelievably, some cards don't, even though the data itself is digital!

Thanks for that info, I have been searching and can't find anything that says yes or no, this whole subject is rather irritating when searching for info, I can find nothing anywhere, unless I am not using the right search terms lol.

Do you have that dialog window available with the drivers/applications that were installed to support your sound card?

Yes I can get it to pop up, I have the X-fi card, but once set what software does the actual ripping? Vegas Pro? Audacity? Cool Edit Pro? or something different? lol I will probably have my LD player back to me before I even know how to do this, oh well just keep searching lol, but we really need to figure this out for future projects, so maybe some might not have the bit perfect PCM.

D_J, I always used AviSynth to capture video from laserdisc, along any kind of audio (PCM, DTS, AC3); then you could use any software to manipulate the captured soundtrack. If you need further info, let me know.

How does Avisynth rip laserdisc audio? I am mainly concerned with ripping bit accurate rips of the PCM and DTS, followed by AC3, I want to learn and test(once my player is back) on Mortal Kombat DTS LD.

You must have a bit-perfect audio capture card; just enable capture audio,set the right frequency under raw capture format (stereo 16bit, 44100Hz for PCM and DTS, 48000hz for AC3). set the S/PDIF input, and then you could start to capture. Obviously, if you capture DTS, you must decode it with some other software, or use SoundOut plugin for AviSynth.

I strongly suggest to resurrect this thread when you have your laserdisc player back, as it's better to post your requests (and receive answers) "near on demand".

Duncan won't have the player until Friday and I do not know what his turn around time is, I assume it does not take to long.

I agree that is a good AC3 RF demodulator, but as I investigated a lot before buying one, I discovered that all AC3 RF demodulators use the same chip (licensed from Pioneer)... so, it's not possible to assume that this is the best (nor the worst): the all do the same jobs, quality-wise, while others have some interesting features, as the Pioneer RFD-1 has 1 AC3 ins, two digital ins and two digital outs (two optical and two electrical) and could act as a switch... I actually have both of them, along with the Pioneer SP-D07 DS&AC3 processor, and, apart features, sound quality is the same...

And 249US$ seems a quite high price, as you can find the same at 1/3rd of the price...

OK Laserdisc Service has my Player in top notch working order and it has had a tune-up, it looks like I will have it by mid or end of next week, I also have a new Yamaha APD-1 on the way as well so I cannot wait to learn how to do all this stuff myself, as I said this will really help us out in moving things along instead of waiting on shipping and the guy ripping to free up time, plus I am not real happy about mailing my LD's off lol.

So hopefully next weekend I can start doing some testing on this and get it all sorted.

Does anyone happen to have any links to these M-Audio cards? I keep getting nothing and just in case I do need to get a different card I would like to look into this one, it seems to be the one most talk about, and it would be nice to have both coax and optical, now I only have optical.

Definitely second the edp800. I got mine at Goodwill for $10 just because it had the ac3rf jack and I had a secret hope it meant what I thought it might.

OK I have my LD player back now and it is hooked up to my PC, I also set my X-Fi for bit accurate recording, I have tested ripping with Audition but this program just keeps crashing for some darn reason, I have also tried Creatives WaveStudio, all I am trying to do now is just get something ripped, I will check for bit accuracy after I know I can do it, so what program do you guys use to rip the tracks ac3, PCM and DTS?

1 more thing, I bought new\sealed Conan The Destroyer Japanese LD because it is the only release with Digital Audio, well this LD plays way to fast! sounds like darn chipmunks, now I have other Japanese LD's that do not do this, does anyone know why this is? I am going to be pissed if I wasted my money on this, this is 1 track I really want to rip and put in synch with the BD.

I always use VirtualDub to capture laserdisc, both video and audio - AC3, DTS, PCM, analog... everything!

To capture DTS, just set audio capture to 44100hz/16bit stereo, and don't forget to set the right audio capture card!

Test it, and if you need further info, I'm following this thread so I'll try to help ASAP. Let us know your test results!

I do not have a video capture card on my new PC, I thought my days of LD video capture are done, so how do I rip just audio with VDub?

although I would not mind finding a new video capture card for my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine just to have it, you know just in case, even though for now I do not think I will ever need LD video, are there any good cards out there that will work with my set up and will not break the bank?

To buy a video capture card is a good choice... even if you will not use LD video for your projects, it will help a lot when you have to sync LD audio if you have ALSO LD video - at least, this is my personal experience... I first sync LD video, than LD audio will *automatically* follows because it's just in sync with video.

So no more ideas on what to use to rip the audio with, I can't figure out how to just rip audio with VDub and Audition is giving me fits, I really want to start testing and getting this down I have a shitload of LD's that could use some ripping.
