Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityMr Jones does bring up a good point. However, TVs wife is looking for something easier on the eyes, which eReaders do provide. And all of the systems have apps to let you read the same books on them as well.
Also, there's something to be said about devices that do one thing and do them well. It's a lost art sometimes (see: the Nook Color which is as much an iPad as anything else).

I obviously can't answer this yet, but I thought the big advantage was it's easier on the eyes (i.e. more "booklike"), which is something my wife is concerned about.
Also, can you get a laptop for $139?
As far as I've heard:
If I put my laptop in low brightness mode, it makes the contrast go to poop and it is pretty easy on my eyes- in the sense that it isn't blowing them out the back of my head and blinding me (with science).
I don't know of any laptops for $139, but you can get a lot of netbooks for about $199. Sure, it's $60 more, but can you post on OT.com from your kindle?

Beats me, I don't have a kindle.
But having said that, if I were to gain another way to post on ot.com, I think I'd be getting a divorce too. And a different job.

of Earth. Not entirely on subject, but I sell a lot of books on http://www.half.com. If you have an ebay account, then you have a half account. I've sold a little on Amazon Marketplace as well, and I prefer half.
If you have a ton of books lying about, and you (or your wife) are willing to part with them, you should give it a shot.

See You, Space Cowboy...Haha... TV's wife. I saw a Kindle on the plane the other day, and I'm not sure which generation it was but it fooled me pretty well. Whichever one it was, it hardly looked like a digital screen at all. If you're running out of space, I say go for it.

of Earth.Interesting. So... what else can you do with a modern Kindle then?
Does it play World of Warcraft? Or Monkey Island, even?

1. Digital Books Yes.
2. Digital Newspapers Yes.
3. Audiobooks? Yes.
4. RSS? Looks like it.
5. E-mail? Don't think so.
6. read (and post) on OT.com Yes, navigable, but not pretty
7. How much internet support? Static sites ok, but browser is in beta. No mouse and having to "Next Page" to scroll down is a pain since the screen doesn't dynamically refresh.
8. ??? Actually has a couple free word games and you can buy Scrabble for it.
Does it play World of Warcraft? Or Monkey Island, even?LOL, no.

Ointment FlyOk, so I'm actually leaning towards the Nook. I've read a few reviews of the Nook and Kindle and here's a few things I like better with the Nook:
1) Expandable memory
2) Replaceable battery
3) Can be easily returned to our local store within 14 days if she doesn't like it, rather than having to ship back to Amazon
and the biggie:
4) Epub format support, which includes ebook checkouts from our local library system.
I think #4 will be a huge plus for her, so I think that will seal the deal.
