of Earth. All of the other threads here have been specific- how are you writing Star Wars stuffs...
I intend this thread to be a place people can discuss writing generally and useful links or books or whathaveyou on the writing process.

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM
"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

of Earth.I believe in the "spiritual laws" of writing over any "technical laws" that may be suggested...
However, I do think that deconstruction is a good way to see what makes your favourite movies tick. That's why I started the 3 Act Structure thread: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Act-Breaks/topic/11489/. If you want to learn more about 3 act structure, read a little about the definition and then start trying to break down the stories or movies you know. It really helps when you can discuss it with someone, especially if that other person challenges your assessment.
Similarly, I started this thread to look at trilogy structure (specifically the OT):
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Original-Trilogy-Times-Chart/topic/11455/
Another brief one on trilogy structure:
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/A-New-Hope-Trading-on-Promises-or-Trailer-for-the-SW-Universe/topic/11379/
I thought there was one more because I remember writing some stuff not in those.

of Earth.I've been listening to Robert McKee read his book Story. I think this is a pretty valuable book- though I think I only agree with about half of what the man says or thinks. But the act of disagreement also helps me learn the craft of storytelling.
I think you should check it out... but keep your mind open.
John Gardner's The Art of Fiction and On Moral Fiction are also similarly recommended.
