It's also on Public Torrent sites.
The changes that George Lucas has made over the years to Star Wars is the equivalent of someone keying your car. On an intellectual level, you know that the car still works, and its only marred a fraction of a percent of the paintjob. On an emotional level, every time you see it, it's all you can focus on, and it makes you want to rip someone's face off.

OK, I'd like to revive this thread, since I want to start working on v2.0 next month.
If you guys have any suggestions about what could be improved over v1.0, now is the time to start discussing them :-)
I'd like to see if you can start your work using snicker's restored-clipped-detail version, if it's ready for the whole film.
Also I'd like to see restored starfields.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Blu-ray capture of TESB. Additionally, this method of restoring detail to clipped channels is painfully slow to render. At 1080p, it would take weeks to render an entire film. I had a stab at transferring the process to Harmy's Despecialized 2.0 but, because colour and gamma corrections have altered the original image data, it isn't possible.

First of all: A happy new year to everyone!
Yesterday i found a german AC3 file for harmy ESB release, so i decided to rewatch it again (this time with the sync version i grwon up with).
I used MKVtoolnix to mux the ac3 file into a mkv. After it was muxed i realised the MKV runs now with a framerate of 24fps (running time 2:05:02) while the original AVCHD runs with 23fps (running time 2:05:57), resulting in a time difference of 55 secs. I also realised i couldn`t skip through the film in VLC with my MKV version.
Has anyone experienced the same problem with using MKVtoolnix in the past?
Nevertheless, i watched it yesterday and strangely i didn`t realise any "speed up".

Padawan LearnerWell, I know where in ESB the clipping and crushing bug me the most - in the first Imperial fleet shots and in the Falcon's escape from Hoth. The loss of detail in those is so atrocious that it distracts me every time. Would there be any point in running those sequences, or those and and a handful of others through your custom scripts and plugs, Snicker? Would certainly cut down on the render time if the process can be targeted where it really needs it. Encode lossless and Harmy should be able to just drop those shots into his timeline. As understood it, Snicker, these are on your work machines, no? Can you tie up render time if that's the case?

I think one of the big questions to bring up just to clear up for anyone who hasn't been extensively following this would be - What sources/references would you be using in addition to everything on the 1st post in order to truly call this v2.0?

Han D. SoloBasically just Puggo Strikes Back plus some of the original matte paintings that were on the 2011 BD.

Apologies for the late reply. Yes, this is a work machine so unfortunately can't be tied up rendering. I am open to trying it on a few shots but don't have a capture of ESB.

At the risk of sounding pushy, when can we expect ESB and ROTJ to get v2.0 treatment?? A New Hope DeS v2.0 is an amazing feat and instantly spoiled me when viewing the 1.0 versions of the rest of the trilogy.
Please also forgive me if this has already been asked.

Han D. SoloI'm currently working on v2.1 of SW and I'll start on ESB as sson as it's done bt that may be a month or two, since it's exams now and I'm also taking quite an active part in the presidential campaign for the upcoming election here.

Padawan LearnerObviously this would only be if you think it would help, and I'm sure no one wants to see the frothing madness that are the demand/suggestions/insane co-ownership attitude on the Revisited projects, Harmy, but maybe a bit of pre-pro scut-work we can help with is if you identify a few shots you feel are in the worst shape, we can get them to Snicker to run some sample frames and see if there's anything worth pursuing further? 'Course, that would depend on you already knowing where the problems are, so might have to wait until you get to the project anyways.

Padawan LearnerWell, in the very VERY first shot of the Imperial fleet (the port-side of the bridge passing overhead) the BG destroyer that was medium-shadow density is utterly black in the '04s, and all of the shadows on the TIEs chasing the Falcon prior to entering the asteroid field likewise are the same black as the BG starfield, making chunks of wings bleed seamlessly into the BG. I probably notice it because of how much I have loved both of those sequences since 1980. It's obsessive, but then again, we're talking about minute re-construction of details to a thirty year old film at this point :) All of the space stuff suffers from this re-timing of the film. Anyways, it occurred to me by the end of my last post that you likely would have to be deep into prep-work on v2 before you'd know what you wanted to address anyways, and therefore there wasn't much of a head start we could get for you.

Hey guys tried to search for an answer ( not long honestly )but its a quick one. I managed to download Harmy's ESB and ROTJ on a TPB and both files were just above 7GB in size each. My question is are these the original size of these files?
I know SWv2.0 is up around 16GB so i just wanted to be sure I get the original size, audio and quality that Harmy produced ! Thanks JIM

A légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal. That sounds about right. The 1.0 versions were designed to fit on a DVD9. Unfortunately that means they're MUCH more compressed than SW 2.0, but they're still quite good (and much better than any commercial release).
