Does the HD version actually need to be burnt on a blu ray?

^ Just about to ask the same question.

You will not. None of us will, except for a very old and dying Ziggy Stardust who will watch it through teary eyes as he remembers us all.

Could you please send me a PM for ESB Despecialized in HD?  Hopefully it isn't too late for me to request one.  Love your work, BTW.

Thanks Harmy! I was crossing my fingers as I burned my first DVD ever, and it worked great! (used a Verbatim DL 2.4-6x, Singapore mfr).

I gotta admit as the title crawl started up I couldn't help but laugh a bit for joy. I had the same anticipation level for this as I did when ESB first hit the VHS rental market, and there was a weeks long waiting list to rent it. But, my friend's parents got in near the top of the list, and we got to watch it at my friend's birthday party. Coolest birthday party I remember growing up.

Only comparing the anticipation levels, not the picture quality. :)

Great work, much thanks to you and to all who contributed.

This is the first chance I've had to thank Harmy and all the rest who have done so much work restoring these films.  I was particularly surprised at how well the celebration scene from ROTJ turned out.  Got shivers all over again.

So, could I get a PM for an ESB DeEd HD?

OK, I was tired of sending the links all the time (and the people subscribed to this thread were surely tired of reading about it), so this is now on tehparadox. Just go there and search for Harmy, if you want to get this.

I finally watched this in full last week (I've had the disc for weeks now, but had only sampled bits & pieces until recently). What can I say that hasn't already been said? Just like Star Wars, you've successfully saved ESB from the man who would destroy it. Thank you, Harmy, and all the wonderful people who collaborated with you or graciously allowed you to use bits from their own projects to make this happen! The tide finally feels like it's turning back in our favor! Hurray!

Watched a bit of this today but had to stop myself after a while since I want to watch Star Wars 1.2 first :) I can't say anything else than that it's great! Everything looks fantastic! Well done Harmy, and all of you who contributed to this edition!

I feel a bit like an ass for commenting on minor things, but 1 thing left me a bit curious from what i've see so far:

Might be my monitor but does the opening crawl look kinda orange instead of yellow? Didn't see any mention of the crawl in your comparison.

Over all; pure magic! :)

Hey Harmy,

Before I burn this to a disc I just wanted to check and make sure that isn't an ESB v1.2 coming along. I'm pretty sure this version of ESB is perfect as is, but I thought I'd check just in case you had planned on making any minor changes. If this is the final release then I'll go ahead and burn it today. Cheers!!!

I have no plans on doing another version of ESB at least up until I get my hands on the Blu-Rays, which could be months from now.

So I have some questions.  I was recommended to come here and join a little while ago by a user at another board who said these are worth it.  My questions are:

1.  How are these BD quality if they are downloads?  I have never seen anything download no matter where they are ripped from even come close to being as good as an actual disc.

2.  Where do I go to download this?  I went to some site listed in the first movie's topic, but the site had them broken down into 4 different downloads, and it was only for the first movie.  I was told to wait for version 1.2 to come out of that, but I cannot find anything for this one.  However, is the download broken into pieces?

3.  I download that img thing, but after reading about it, this all seems way too complicated to put together.  I mean, having to somehow splice the files into one large file without it actually showing and trying to copy them to a BD disc just seems way too complex.

4.  Has anyone made disc art and cover art for these?  If so, where and what type of paper do you recommend using.  In fact, is an Epson Artisan 710 even going to be worth printing BD covers from?  I have never seen any printer be able to even touch the quality of an official releases cover art?

I think that is all I have to ask for the moment.

Welcome, Dr Kain. Let me answer your questions here

1) Well they are sourced from HDTV captures, so they're not exactly full Blu-Ray quality but they're natively HD and definitely better than DVD.

2) They are split with WinRar, which is a necessity, as most servers don't allow free download of larger files. You need WinRar or 7Zip or something similar to reconnect the parts.

The links to this can be found at tehparadox.com or a torrent at myspleen.org.

3) They're are AVCHD, so you can burn them to a double layer DVD and they should play in a majority of BD players and PS3.

4) I'm working on custom covers and I'm happy to say they're almost done :-)

Some sort of glossy photo paper would probably yield best results.

If you want to be really anal about it you could perhaps restore the original preface to Empire and Jedi using the broadcasted '97 special editions. Empire used the same preface as Star Wars so I understand why you used GOUT-SW as it was from a better source, but maybe the broadcasted '97 versions yields even better results for a possible future version, at least for Jedi. Just a thought I had. Just avoid ANH as it was redone in '97 for some reason. I guess the Lucasfilm - logos will be harder to find in better resolution though, the only way I can think of is a very well made capture of a Pan & Scan LD or a scan of an actual print. ;) I don't know, maybe the GOUT-upscale you used looking good enough or better than using the '97 sources.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Oh, I didn't know that it wasn't changed in 97SE in ESB and ROTJ, that's interesting, thanks :-)

You might be confusing "downloading" with "streaming".  If you download HD content and burn it to disk, it is certainly as good as an actual disk (heck, it then IS an actual disk).

3.  I download that img thing, but after reading about it, this all seems way too complicated to put together.  I mean, having to somehow splice the files into one large file without it actually showing and trying to copy them to a BD disc just seems way too complex.

Nobody said it was easy.  There's a bit of a learning curve to downloading files of this size.  If you think this is hard, consider how much work some of the members here put into the restorations.  Some of them literally took years, for no compensation (most of us spent a lot of our own money making our restorations and making them available).  Ask nicely and people will help... just remember we aren't BestBuy - you're going to have to dig around take a bit of time to get yourself up to speed. But it's worth it - there are versions here that are much better than you can buy in the store.

4.  Has anyone made disc art and cover art for these?  If so, where and what type of paper do you recommend using.  In fact, is an Epson Artisan 710 even going to be worth printing BD covers from?  I have never seen any printer be able to even touch the quality of an official releases cover art?

I have found most of the cover art found on the forums here to be better than official releases, and I just get photo paper and print them at Kinko's.

Ewoks films on DVD has it but not sure if they're exactly the same.

Probably not as they weren't exactly the same between the three SW-films either. Are the logos displayed against a black background on those? The classic Raiders featurette on DVD has one, but I think the quality on that one is even worse.

Awesome covers Harmy ! I'm nitpicking but I think it'd be better to use the stormtrooper's helmet for Star Wars and Vader for episode 6 because the stormtroopers are way more threatening in the first movie and Vader's role is more important in Jedi.

Rule 72 : Darth Vader is your father. No exceptions.
