I am ready for the trials!Unfortunately the font doesn't match. You have to use NewsGothic and modify some of the letters by hand.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityThe only things I'm pretty sure I'm missing are Ewok blinks, which kind of stand out. Other than that, I'm fairly certain we've got them.Harmy said:
And again, we need to remember what this project is about - simulating the experience of high quality viewing of the original, rather then a perfect preservation, so some of the "invisible" "fixes" will stay either way.
Is your 04/11 list complete now 005?

Yeah, here's an overlay using a difference filter:

Han D. SoloWell, it's not bad but not quite there, like all the recreations I've seen.
Oh and to that BD screenshot, again, I don't see what's supposed to be wrong with it. I'm not being an ass or anything, I really don't see it. I mean, I'm sure there was some DVNR applied there, because all the other versions I've seen of these shots, including some HD film scans, were pretty grainy but I don't think it looks bad.

You really don't need to worry about that. I don't know if you're intentionally working on your nice-guy image or what, but I think the consensus here is that you're always very level-headed about everything. Sure, you make subjective decisions based on your own eyes, but we expect that. It's not unreasonable in any way.

I'm ok with using the Bluray as a source and starting with a new version. I would even suggest you output a 1080p output. It would be easy in premiere. You just replace your video with the 1080p source for the final render.
I think Harmy chose 720p because it blends better with stuff taken from GOUT and other sources that are not 1080p. Also, it helps to reduce whatever oversharpening and DVNR which seems to be present on the Blu-ray.
About the "watercolor-effect" thing at Vader's entrance, here's a comparison. (Harmy's on top, mine on bottom, downscaled to 720p)
And a closeup comparison which I've brightened a bit for it to match. Harmy's on left and mine on right.
Harmy's version is slightly blurrier, but I'd say the watercolor-effect is there on the HDTV version too.
Here's your picture compared with an unrestored 35mm scan:
Now, I really don't understand what the problem is? Less grain and more detail in the BD and HDTV can be put down to a 4 generation younger source and professional scan and I don't see any other difference.
I'm not dismissing what you're saying, I'm asking for more detail on it.

This space for rentThere's less grain and more detail, yes, but the stuff in the back that was diffused by the smoke and haze now looks smudgy and blobby. Look at the storm trooper on the right, and the wall paneling next to him. I feel like I'm looking at plasticine.
If you don't see anything wrong with it, that's fine with me. It just irks me is all. Who knows, maybe when I see it in motion, it won't irk me as much. Besides, I've seen much, MUCH worse on other films on BD...

Han D. SoloYeah, so you mean the plastic look. I can clearly see this effect on human faces and things with that kind of texture and it really bugs me there. But short of Vader's cape, almost everything in that shot is actually made out of plastic, so I guess it doesn't bother me as much.

Personally, it doesn't bother me either. On my 40" TV I wouldn't even notice it. I just agreed with the others that it IS there.

I truly see now about how these changes kept poping up.

Han D. SoloI do intend to give the bars a go but since it's virtually invisible unless watched frame by frame, I will only do it if it works without any major problems.

One issue with the DIF is the resolution they were done at. Some things could possibly be missed like if they had added the extra R2 limps to the other shots near the Bunker, but I checked and they only modified the close ups. So things on the smaller scale could have been missed. The DIF is also not good for finding dark subtle changes, like garbage matte removal.
Harmy, even thou pics might not be available at the moment, i've got timecode for all the DIF spotted changes in the FAQ:
http://www.archive.org/details/DIF-Star.Wars_2004x2011_480
So all the Ewok eyes can be found this way. (the timecode is a little off as a german crawl version was used, so once you find one change, write down how many seconds it's off and subtract from the times. Think on SW the DIF is +20, so subtract 20 secs to get approximate GOUT times.
There are things which Lucasfilm missed, for instance there's an additional shot with a blue escape pod lid which they didn't change. I'm hoping i'm remembering to put that in the Shot Spreadsheet...
