Padawan LearnerAt this point, I'm more excited for Harmy to move on to ESB than I am for the 2.5 BD.
That being said....... I can't wait to see more of the video features. Everything Harmy produces is simply excellent. He really has the Midas touch

I haven't downloaded anything since the 2.0 mkv, so I'm still anxiously waiting for the BD release. But I too am glad that Harmy will be moving on to ESB & ROTJ for updated releases after the BD.

Han D. SoloI'm sorry it's taking so long. I'm home for the holidays and have no more schoolwork but my mom decided to re-carpet and repaint the house, so we keep moving stuff around, so until that's done, I can't really do much work.
The way I see it, there will be an MKV after all, because I kept you waiting so long and it's probably gonna take quite some time to figure out all the BD authoring stuff and fine polish the extras, so once I render the higher bitrate video for the BD, I'll probably release it as MKV first.
Another problem is that I still don't have all the audio files for the BD.

Lost JediWhat audio files do you need ? Hairy_Hen's ? If you need a NTSC GOUT sourced French audio, I'll be glad to give it to you. Now that I think about it, we have all the French versions since Marvins released his preservation. If you need anything about these, feel free to PM me.

For the MKV would it be worth having more lossless tracks since there is no BD25 restriction? I know I have the 70mm 5.1, 77 Digital Stereo and 85 Digital Stereo mixes in lossless as well as h_h's new isolated score again in lossless.

Han D. SoloWell, what I'm looking for are the original '77 mixes (whatever the best current preservations of them are) encoded in DTS-HD MA format. I already have h_h's 70mm 5.1 but I still don't have the other two.

I definitely want to see h_h's 70mm 5.1 DTS-HD Master with the MKV.

schorman13's preservation of the digital '77 stereo mix is fantastic. h_h is currently working on it, IIRC.

I have the Belbucus Mono and the Schorman Stereo mixes which are, as far as I understand, the best 77 mono and stereo preservations. (Although I understand h_h was working on fixing the Schorman Stereo sync) I can upload them and send links on Tuesday (GMT+12).

Han D. SoloLike I already said to CatBus, who also offered this, I've been promised both of those tracks from hairy_hen but he's been out of the loop for a while, so if I don't get them from him in time for the release, I'll know who to turn to :)

Reginald ScumI haven't posted much recently, due to being busy with various things, but I haven't forgotten. ;)
Actually I've had a rather exciting new development, in that I now have access to official Dolby software, which means I can upmix with real Prologic II and record the result directly into Pro Tools. (This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time, but only now have finally been able to make it happen.) I'm currently running tests to determine how much of an improvement this would be over the existing 5.1 mix; if it's to my liking, then a new version will soon be on its way.
The main potential benefit of this would be improved separation—less leakage of sound from one channel to another. There have been occasional comments about it being an issue, so this should help on that account. I may edit the LFE track ever so slightly, but on the whole it will still be virtually identical to the previous mix.
I'm also able to make use of the official AC3 encoder. When I tested it in comparison to the freeware version I'd been using before, the improvement in quality was immediately apparent. I've learned that this is because there are various coding tricks Dolby came up with to improve efficiency, resulting in superior sound at the same bitrates, which unofficial encoders do not duplicate even though they produce output compatible with the AC3 spec. The improvement over the previous version is most obvious for 5.1 at 448 kbps (which is most significant for the DVD), but every track will certainly benefit from this, so I consider it highly necessary.
On the lossless front, I can encode in both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA, so I suppose it comes down to whichever one has greater compatibility. I know that VLC can play any Dolby file but not DTS, due to licensing issues or some such, but I don't know what other people use to watch HD files on their computers, or what works best with mkv in general.

Harmy, there was talk a few months ago about including the 1985 home stereo mix on the BD. Are you still planning on doing that, and if so, do you have the files you need?
Harmy

Han D. SoloI think so, but I'm probably going to wait for h_h's superior encodes of all the English mixes (if he's willing to provide them of course).

Guys, I found a source of Polish audio for Star Wars in pretty good quality (IMO). It comes from 1995 VHS relase, which was most likely 1981 version of the film. Harmy's interested in putting it in 2.5 relase, but I don't know if the timing of this version would fit despecialized edition, so a person smarter than me would probably be needed to sync it.
Anyone got a minute for this? :)

Undead PixelHarmy I think it would be a good idea to wait for Project Blu V2 to be released first rather than to use a sample otherwise once it does get released you'll have to release another version
