When you remove a Ronto from a scene, is it fair to call it rontoscoping?

So since your planning on doing a 3.0 what will make the 3.0 different from Star Wars 2.5 that will be released soon and the 2.0 of Empire and Jedi that will hopefully com soon after? If I know that 3.0 will come eventually then I think I'll wait for 3.0 instead

Harmy 3.0 would utilise the 'Silver Screen Experience' (is that the right name?) project. Being able to use a Full HD 35mm scanned source would justify a new iteration, as I am sure Harmy is done with SW BD sourced material after this.

As much as I would also want to wait to see that grace us all, v2.5 is more than enough to hold us over until that faithful day which honestly isn't going to be anytime soon compared to the amount of time before we see v2.0 of Empire and Jedi since it'll rest as the benchmark for how far the project has come.

As much as a 3.0 would actually be great using a 35mm scan, i'm sort of missing the point here, why would he need to despecialise that.. isn't it already the theatrical cut of Star Wars pre-97?

Also, rather than a million edits of Star Wars, i'd rather see a new ESB & ROTJ to complete the trilogy personally, it's your project though so I can't force you, haha.

I think the 3.0 thing came up when Harmy linked to the PDE thread from two years ago about the "rontoscoping" term. After that post in that older thread, there was talk about a 3.0 of the "partly" despecialized edition. I saw a post that I made where I mention a version 3.0 (in early 2011) and was confused until I saw it was the PDE thread.

Honestly though i'd never seen the N1 transfer, looks incredible, better than some of the films I have on my shelf, the fact that the blu-ray has so many crushed blacks as well where I guess the N1 version won't might be nice too.

Your focus is too narrow when it comes to what fixing the holiday special really could be.  Instead of just lightly polishing up one segment, a few years back a brave group addressed the issues of the ENTIRE special, please enjoy (since without their efforts that wouldn't even be possible) http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/star-wars-holiday-special
