GOUT suffererOh, one quick note, when the Jawas put the restraining bold on R2, wasn't there discussion earlier about some color that was supposed to be there, like R2's blue sections are black now? If it has been colored, I'm not particularly noticing it. Though the scene looks fine as is to me in general, I am wondering (so many of these scenes stick out to me now after all this discussion on this thread).

Han D. SoloTried fixing it with GOUT chroma but the different framing and distortion made it difficult and it just didn't look very good, so I decided it was more trouble than it was worth.

GOUT suffererJust thought I'd check, it is a minor thing and I wouldn't even know it was there if I hadn't seen it mentioned (and it really doesn't alter enjoyment, much like the new wipes). Overall, I'm on board with skipping it, just making sure it was intentional rather than an oversight.

Okay, this has probably been brought up before, but after the opening crawl completely appears (ie. "freedom to the galaxy..." is fully shown), the crawl speeds up significantly.
I feel like an idiot having not noticed this before. Was is always that way?

Han D. SoloWell, I only recently noticed that too. When you compare it side by side with the GOUT, it definitely speeds up significantly at that point too, though maybe a tiny bit more smoothly.

I wondered if my eyes were playing tricks, now that you mention it. Not too distracting, but it is weird. One thing right after that which caught my eye was the movement of the planet as the escape pod flies toward it - seems ever so slightly jerky, though that could be a consequence of framerate more than an actual flaw.
Harmy

Han D. SoloIt is a bit jerky and it is like that in the GOUT and the SE as well.

Watched v2.1 earlier today. Love the new improvements and the fact that I got it as an .iso this time around. Looking forward to the BD disc. :)

I know this is the wrong place to ask, but could someone point me to some instructions on how to get this onto a DL DVD using OS X? I don't have Windows, so ImgBurn isn't an option.
It's described as an ISO, but I just see a BDMV folder (downloaded from MySpleen.) With the original versions I actually had a .ISO file I could burn directly to disc.
Also: There's no forum search? Really?

Yeah the search function is really screwed up why the admin insists on using an obscure forum software rather than something like vBulletin is beyond me. If you want to search just type in site:originaltrilogy.com/forum "search term" on google. As far as your other question short of telling you to install bootcamp I can't really help you but I'm sure that there is at least a few mac users on this forum who can

Out of curiosity, what was the reasoning behind DeEd being 720p instead of 1080p? My best guess is that it was a compromise between the FHD source material and the SD source material in order to not make the difference between the two as visually jarring.

Rendering and CPU power I think, can anyone here honestly tell a difference in clarity between Harmy's version and the 1080p official Blu? I sure cant. Maybe if you're sitting inches away from your monitor lol

Scroll down and read the part starting with "Harmy".
And, no, I'm not mixing up Despecialized with Revisited. Harmy's opinion influenced Adywan.

GOUT suffererIf blown out at ~150" like I'm doing with my 1080p projector, there's usually a fine but noticeable difference between 720 and 1080, things are a little more defined all over the place, like irises in eyeballs come out much less blurred, etc. But overall, in a movie as active as Star Wars, the difference is really not all that apparent.
And to the mac burning question, there was an answer mentioned just a few pages back; that being: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=9046125&postcount=18
and a follow up note of
"note: i'm not sure if it's necessary for success, but i first created CERTIFICATE and CERTIFICATE/BACKUP directories (empty) in the "Star Wars DE_2.1 AVCHD" directory. and then i did touch * in that directory to make sure BDMV and CERTIFICATE had the same date. then i follow the procedure at the above link.
i have a DL disc that plays on PS3 now!"

I am ready for the trials! Also don't forget that the 1080p transfer of the trilogy isn't as high quality as it could (and should!) be, since it uses the Lowry restauration that was created with only the DVD-release in mind at that time. So the change to 720p isn't that noticable as it would be with a new transfer of the films.

GOUT suffererThanks AntcuFaalb, that link was a good read. I hadn't considered much that Lucas' old transfer would be lacking enough that 720p doesn't make all that huge of a difference. Makes me somehow feel incredibly better about this whole project knowing there's not much in the way of quality loss (every single edit Harmy's made is nothing other than a benefit, but quality difference had been a concern in the back of my mind).
Not to say that there isn't a difference between good 1080 and 720. *sigh* Damn you Lucas...

Nope. All you need in google is: originaltrilogy.com "search term".
Also, I made a bookmark/favorite in my browsers so I don't have to type that every time I search.
The changes that George Lucas has made over the years to Star Wars is the equivalent of someone keying your car. On an intellectual level, you know that the car still works, and its only marred a fraction of a percent of the paintjob. On an emotional level, every time you see it, it's all you can focus on, and it makes you want to rip someone's face off.

Harmy,
Big thanks for all that you have done and continue to do. I have both v2.0 and now v2.1 of ANH. Perhaps this question has been asked before, but why is v2.0 nearly 16GB of data while v2.1 is only 8GB?
I'm really excited about watching this and the other despecialized releases once my home theater is finished. I will be projecting onto a 130" wide 2.35:1 screen. My gut tells me that the 16GB version will look better when blown-up to 130" wide as opposed to the 8GB version... This is from a pure "amount of data" stance.
Is there any plan to release a larger version of 2.1?
sonicheart
This user is offline.
LOL ok so after some reading through the thread I have answered all my questions. The 16GB version is MKV (higher quality as I suspected) and it looks as though you will be making another such file available for v2.1
Am I allowed to ask how far off the MKV release is?

The next release will be Blu Ray format, from there you can extract the video steam and convert to MKV.
