RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!REMASTERED v2.1 AVCHD is now out!!!

Is there a way to play this AVCHD on my Xbox360 without losing quality? I've already made the necessary steps to burn it onto a DVD. The problem is that I don't have a Blu-Ray player right now and would like to know if there's any alternative? Thanks!

The green in this has an odd border at the top does anyone notice this? It looks like a green block rather than a glow

animemaakuo - yes, simply use mkvmerge to change the .mt2s file to an mkv. Copy that to a flash drive. Should work.

I did this with ESB and ROTJ and it worked fine. You might need to install the media update.

Yeah, probably a lot of people noticed this, back in 1977 ;-)

Just finished watching it. Looked fantastic on my setup (47" Panasonic Plasma with Oppo BDP-93). Awesome work!

Michael, I think he means that was the best they could do at the time and he made it look as it did then, so it can look obvious and still be acceptable.

Ipd, I also have an Optoma HD65, it has served me well for years, and the replacement bulb was an incredible value... but I've just recently upgraded to a BenQ W1070, and the difference is very noticeable (let's face it, the '65 just isn't quite bright enough for pushing over 140 inches).  If you get a chance to upgrade to something similar, the brightness and contrast difference is a revelation.  Can't wait to do more than just spot check 2.1 on this beast.

Oho? Pictures of Harmy's work up on our projection screens? Can do :)

I burned the AVCHD to a DVD, popped it into my PS3, and paused on this scene:

For the "lights off" shot, I set my camera white point to 7500K to match my projector's white point setting of 7500K. Not sure if that's right, but the picture looks right to me.

I don't think my screen is as big as lpd's :P This is an 80-inch Da-Lite TheaterLite display, with the WidePower surface (2.2 gain, 45 degree viewing angle, so maybe I should have taken the shot closer to center). The projector is an Epson PowerLite 8345, which is a 1080p 3LCD projector. 3LCD is the way to go for HD projection at a reasonable cost, single-chip DLP is cheaper but totally unsuitable for any home theatre use. Single-chip DLP are great for powerpoint in offices, but terrible colour and they lose a lot of brightness due to using colour filters (3LCD uses prisms to split light into the colours and runs it through three monochrome LCD chips). I speak from experience, I manage something like 30 projectors for an anime convention, most are single-chip DLP (the costs-more-than-a-car ones are 3-chip DLP, and for our smaller ones I'm starting to migrate to 3LCD) It was a budget setup; the screen was something like $240, the projector about a thousand bucks if memory serves.

Thank goodness this projector has such a short throw distance. I have a tiny apartment that is less than 11 feet wide, and the projector (which isless than 9 feet from the screen) could easily handle a 100 inch image at that distance, if they had made this screen in that size :P Yes, it's a bit silly having an 80" screen in an apartment this small, but I don't care :P

Wow, that setup looks pretty amazing. What's also apparent is how great Harmy got the colours - it looks like the original print!

Loving the projector shots, guys. I'll have to take a few snaps of my own!

The green tint, where it appears, is not one of them and is completely intentional and confirmed by other sources beside the IB prints.

That's what I was asking, thanks. Thanks for your hard work for the community, too.

Here's my set up. I'm using an Epson TW9000 (aka 5010) projector with an anamorphic lens for my 130" scope screen. It has a THX(!) mode which is very close to calibration standard. Unfortunately my camera phone isn't the best so I gave up trying to get some good shots. They simply will not do Harmy's work justice. Rest assured, the upscaled 1080p picture is very sharp, very vivid and the colours and contrast are spot on.

The HH's sound is amazing, too, with lots of wonderful bass. The Buttkicker I have attached to the couch gives it a good shake every time one of those pesky TIE fighters explode. Thanks HH!

Why exactly?

RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!REMASTERED v2.1 AVCHD is now out!!!

^In my pictures you can see the black bars, they are part of the picture, using an anamorphic lens you set your projector to stretch the picture vertically which means the picture is using all the available pixels (dlp micro mirrors on mine) then the lens would stretch the picture horizontally, the upshot is no more black bars and your seeing nearly all of the available light from the lamp so a very bright and very filmic looking picture.

Youtoo...

To be honest in our house we cant watch movies on a tv anymore (tv is for tv the one you can see in one of the pictures is a 37") it really feels like you cant see the picture properly.Over the years Ive had loads of them, I'm a frequent buyer and seller on fleabay but I always seem to come back to Optoma ones, there easy to set up, have loads of picture adjustments to play with. They maybe dont have the most perfect picture but excellent for a budget home setup and they can be found for a fraction of the price of a sizable tv. I would recommend getting one as you really cant beat front projection for movies.

Guzpaz.

I disagree with your LCD vs DLP comments, I've had many lcd's and dlp's and for film viewing DLP always wins. Not just my opinion. I believe IDLA is currently the way to go for a serious setup but can be pricey.

Until recently I had the Optoma HD200x which gave full hd and a better picture but downgraded to get some mula for christmas:-( Damn you Santa) but for my setup the 65 does the job.

Anyway looks like all this projector talk is hijacking Harmys thread so thats all I've got to say about that:-)

Looks incredible from the caps I've seen posted.

Hoping we see the avchd and especially blu-ray [when released] on usenet as I've no other realistic way to obtain.

Personally, I think talk about the projectors we are enjoying v2.1 on celebrates Harmy's work, and isn't entirely off topic (at least until serious 2.5 talk starts rolling in... after people watch it on their varied and awesome setups).

@Guspaz I also disagree with the LCD vs DLP thing, at least in most part.  If you get a good enough DLP (fast ~6x color wheel, and at least Dark Chip 3 for a single chip), I'd take it any day over a similarly priced LCD.  The motion is better, if nothing else.  And say what you will about brightness, but this W1070 is nothing short of a light cannon.

RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!REMASTERED v2.1 AVCHD is now out!!!

I just remembered that there's this "dick measuring" thread for home theatre talk/boasting:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/What-is-your-home-theater-setup-for-watching-Star-Wars-movies-or-what-equipment-would-like-to-get-if-you-could-afford-it-or-dream-setup/topic/14630/

Since I can't provide useful photos of Harmy's work in action, I'll restrict any future celebration of my viewing environment to that thread and invite ya'll to do the same, should you feel that you're pushing the boundries of topic relevance.

While I am here, however, I will say that its stuff like this that makes me truly appreciate what I've been able to cobble together with limited funds and restrictive conditions (I rent, and have moved twice in the past year, which has presented vast challenges due to the specific demands of a projection set up). God knows that I've sat through endless hours of the latest slick, state-of-the-art special effects-laden Hollywood dreck with barely a tinge of satisfaction with the technological terror that I've constructed.

Harmy's despecialized editions of the OT, however, have brought nothing but absolute joy and a prevailing sense that all that investment and sacrifice can and does eventually pay off. Bravo.

I was finding the 2.1 playback rather washed out, so I adjusted the video playback settings of VLC, and that made a great deal of difference. Everything is much more saturated and excellent.

Harmy, you may want to provide some screenshots with the movie or in the first post to allow people who are new to this process (such as myself) to get the most out of all of your hard work.
