Han D. SoloIt will be just a BD25. The separation is mainly for me to not have to upload the same video and audio twice, while making it possible for people wanting an MKV to only DL the movie. There will be some extras but only a few and I do still plan on doing a bonus disc for the whole trilogy.
As for ESB, I do plan on starting right away but fairly slowly I guess.

Undead PixelI am completely lost when it comes to containers and file formats so I would like some clarification on that so I know what to download when the files are released. Also what kind of extras are you planning on including? I think my ultimate Blu-ray collection would include the Despecialized and revisited versions in HD on one disc (I don't think Revisited HD will get released until 2016 though) and on the bonus disc would be the building Empire series of filmumentaries

Will be malfunctioning within a day. That's great news, Harmy!
Star Wars is the only case in modern film history where the preservation of the original award-winning version has been left up to the fans. That fact alone proves that Lucas is insane.

Quick question - I have the 2.1 MKV downloaded and when I try to add it to txMuxer, I get an error: Matroska parse error: invalid H264 NAL unit size. NAL unit truncated. Googling that implies that the .mkv is not compatible with blu ray and I need to do some type of re-encoding.
So what is the right way to burn the 16GB .mkv file to a blu ray that I can play on my PS3?

2.1 has not yet been released but a test render is expected by the end of the week. You may have had the same problem that I had where you downloaded from a source other than Harmy. The official source is Myspleen which I unfortunately do not have invites to give. By the way that is weird I am a member of myspleen but I can't send invites to anyone?

The mkv was most likely muxed with a version of mkvmerge GUI newer than 4.1.1. I use 4.1.1 for all my mkv handling. Download 4.1.1, remux the mkv, run it through Tsmuxer and all is good.
OR
Use mkvextractgui 2 and extract the tracks you want from the mkv and load those into tsmuxer. The only thing I worry about with this option is whether the audio will stay in sync with the video.
The changes that George Lucas has made over the years to Star Wars is the equivalent of someone keying your car. On an intellectual level, you know that the car still works, and its only marred a fraction of a percent of the paintjob. On an emotional level, every time you see it, it's all you can focus on, and it makes you want to rip someone's face off.

I'm using the latest posted to MySpleen, which is "Harmy's STAR WARS DE: 2.0 Remastered (MKV FIXED)" and dated 2012-09-14. It plays just fine in VLC.

That was indeed the fix. The MKV was originall 16832874 bytes, but after remuxing it was 16833045. Loaded perfectly in txMuxer after that and I was able to burn it no problem.
Thanks!

Harmy, you said that you are going to separate the .m2ts file from the rest of the Bluray for those who want to re-encode to H.264, but why?
Isn't the difference in size negligible between the two? For example, the combined size of the SW:DEED 2.0 AVCHD files without the .m2ts is 63.7k.
It occurs to me that if you separate the .m2ts from the rest of the files, what you'll really be doing is making it less likely that other people will continue to seed the whole torrent after they're done leeching it, given that what they would then be seeding is not conveniently usable as a proper Bluray backup.
If someone wants to access just the .m2ts, all you need do is instruct them how to find it in the "Stream" folder. You shouldn't break the movie's ability to be immediately burned to disc. The torrent should be organized in a way that people can seed it and burn it at the same time, or else it's more likely that they won't seed it at all.

Chyron makes a very, very good point. If the BD isn't much bigger than the m2ts, splitting them up will only lead to difficulties for users.

Han D. SoloNo, the m2ts file will be 15GB or so, while the whole BD will be 23GB.

Oh. Because of the special features.
(AVCHD doesn't have special features.)
That's a lot of extra stuff :)
Still, if someone only wanted to use the m2ts, they could tell their client to download only the m2ts and nothing else. Which, again, doesn't require it to be separate.
All I know is that I'm going to keep a backup of the whole thing, whether or not I need just the m2ts to encode, and I would prefer to keep said backup in immediately usable form. If it just so happens that the smallest (complete and burnable) version of 2.1 available is 23GB, then so be it.

GOUT suffererI don't think it would be difficult at all for the subset of people wanting to convert the video to just select the file they want from a batch torrent (if they're converting a complex video from one file format to another, they should be smart enough to understand an instruction on how to download just what they need), and I agree the torrent would probably seed much better as a whole (you can also count that someone converting from a format they don't want will likely not keep the unwanted file and therefore not contribute to seeding said torrent anyway); but, Harmy has his reasons in his head and if he's happier making it easier on those who probably won't seed the torrent, then I won't argue with him, he's got enough to deal with in making these great film recreations as it is.
Actually, one solution that might fulfill both sides of this is if the m2ts torrent puts the file in the same directory structure as it would be in a usable Blu-ray structure, so if you download both to the same parent directory it is usable as a Blu-ray without having to move anything (unless the folders try to overwrite each other in some odd way...), but if someone downloads just the movie, they don't waste the extra bandwidth (just have to go down a few directories and grab the really hard to miss gigantic files). Not that this is at all better than one torrent, but it is a fun way to do the same thing in a far more complicated fashion.
In the end, someone would probably just make a complete torrent that everyone will jump over to and seed instead, if people feel that works better for them. So, if one way or the other turns out to be better than whatever Harmy decides to do, things will course correct on their own eventually, no biggie.

My understanding is the m2ts is being released before the additional content will even be completed. A sort of pre-release for "beta testing", i.e. the forum denizens to look it over with a fine-tooth-comb and hopefully find any remaining issues before the final release, which will either consist of A: the additional content and bluray structure separately IF there are no issues found with the "pre-release", or B: (presumably) a full re-release with additional fix-ups to the main video/audio track, as well as the additional blu-ray features and structure.
So, there's a reason it's being done this way, and it has little or nothing to do with saving space or not making people download stuff they don't want. As you say, if that were the goal, selective torrent download would be the way to go.

GOUT suffererActually, I think it is more that he is going to put out an easier to render, lower bitrate AVCHD version of it first (v2.1) and hold off for the more time consuming Blu-ray encode (being the m2ts, and v2.5 if any changes occur) till after that is viewed and approved of.

Han D. SoloI'm not doing torrents. Those who are sharing torrents are obviously advised to share the whole disc, since with torrents you can choose which of the files you want to download - you can't do that with split rar files.

Hey can I have a myspleen invite guys?
I have downloaded despecialized 1.0 and 2.0 so far and would like to test out 2.1 when the blu ray release is ready. I have a blu ray player and would like to burn a disc and test it out to see if it works properly.
Keep up the great work Harmy. This is incredible what you have been able to do already.

No. I never said I'd upload the BD's m2ts file earlier than the rest of the BD, just separately. I'd like for the AVCHD (which will be released sooner than the BD) to be shared via torrent as well.

Ah, my mistake. Got confused between the AVCHD and the m2ts. But now I really am confused why you're uploading the m2ts separately from the rest of the blu-ray. I guess for those of us like me who just want to get an MKV out of it, but personally I'll want all the extra features as well, if possible. I have some great MKV packages that include multiple audio tracks, I was hoping for the same. I suppose some will just want the stand-alone MKV, which they can get from the m2ts?

Because there may be changes between the AVCHD and the Bluray, hence the AVCHD is 2.1 and the Bluray is 2.5. Harmy suspects people might only want the v2.5 m2ts with which to encode. As he, himself, is only personally going to share the completed project via split RAR (which indicates he's using such as Rapidshare, or usenet, or something like that), the files are not individually downloadable unless he uses separate RARs (which is, in fact, his plan.)
...as per this post by Harmy.
If you want the movie via torrent, someone else will have to take charge in uploading it to Myspleen because Harmy isn't going to do that. Which isn't surprising really, as he didn't upload the previous versions to Myspleen either. And said person is perfectly free to put the .m2ts in its proper place so long as the files are individually selectable instead of combined into an .iso.
