Harmy, am I correct to assume that when you release the blu ray version - you'll have someone post it to usenet, like the last time?
All these myspleen requests are making me a little paranoid! LOL

...one thing I wanted to ask was, can anyone tell me whereabouts the layer break is please? (timecode). So I can check this. Thanks.
Layer break is relevant only to DVD-format DVD9's. If your player is capable of playing AVCHD-format DVD9's, that's all you need!

Padawan LearnerBefore I ask for a myspleen invite, what are the dates of the latest versions? I found some AVCHD folders on my old NAS for IV, V and VI, and if I already have the latest, I'll forgo the new download. I would like to be kept in the loop on a 2.1, if there's one in the works. How do I get on that newsletter?

Han D. SoloThe latest AVHCD's m2ts file's date is Sept 11th 2012. There's only one version of ESB and ROTJ so far, so you don't need to worry about those.
So, anyway, the new version is almost done and having just successfully finished my last exam this semester, I'm hoping to have all the changes finalized soon. Now, here's how it's going to go down from there:
First I'm going to render out the AVCHD and watch it (it takes much less time to render due to the lower bitrate). If everything looks fine to me, I'm going to release the AVCHD and start working on the BD Authoring which could take some time - meanwhile, the AVCHD will serve as a bit of a workprint, so it'd be great if you guys could check it out even if you're going to get the BD eventually. For this reason, I'm going to stick with the v2.1 numbering for the AVHCD and if there are no problems found before the BD relase, then the BD is going to be v2.1 as well - if however I do do some fixes for the BD version, I'm going to call it v2.5 and release a new v2.5 AVCHD as well to avoid confusion.
Now, for the BD, I'm going to make the m2ts file downloadable separately from the rest of the BD structure, so those who want the whole BD can just download the rest of the BD structure and put the m2ts file in the right folder within the structure and burn to disc. Those who only want the mkv will only need download the m2ts file and remux it to mkv - I will put clear pictorial instructions on how to do these things in with the release.

Eeh-heh-henh-hehhhh....it's NEVER coming out, WAAAAAHHH!!!!!!
Bets on which wayward grain of sand Harmy finds has been replaced between '77 and '81, necessitating v2.65 :)

Haha, who knows. I don't really care. Looking forward to the latest work, and I think it'll be pretty nice. Good compromise on the format. Let those who wish do a transcode etc..
As for a DVD5 of Jedi, who knows. Could always make one yourself with a little work.

AvstoDVD is free; great program for converting files to DVD-compliant structure.
Use HCenc encoder at 2 passes with DVD9 as your output. There should be guides you can google. AvstoDVD isn't that difficult to use, for the most part the default settings should be fine. You'll have to know whether your player is NTSC or PAL and choose the correct one. PM me if you have any questions.
The changes that George Lucas has made over the years to Star Wars is the equivalent of someone keying your car. On an intellectual level, you know that the car still works, and its only marred a fraction of a percent of the paintjob. On an emotional level, every time you see it, it's all you can focus on, and it makes you want to rip someone's face off.

MakeMKV converts DVDs/AVCHDs/BDs to MKV.
AVI2DVD converts MKVs to DVD format
DVD Shrink drops the file size to DVD5 (if you tell it to)
ImgBurn burns the data to a disc.
oh... and Handbrake encodes nearly any movie format to MKV/M4V, while dropping the file size to a managably portable/streamable size without greatly reducing picture quality.
All of these programs are free.

It's like it's quite possible that Picasso would have loved to use Photoshop for some of his paintings if it was available back then, but if you take a picture from Picasso and recreate it in Photoshop, it's not going to be the same picture and it can hardly be used to demonstrate Picasso's brush techniques.

Sounds like a good idea. What's the reasoning behind remuxing the m2ts to MKV? Is it for player compatibility?

Is it possible once I download Harmy's versions to put them on a flash drive and plug them into my Roku to watch on my HDTV?

Excellent and perfect plan. Easy to remux to MKV but near impossible to do opposite.
Hoping some one can do usenet upload as for many it's the fast and safest method and for those of us who have SSL usnet provider connections the only way to make it untraceable to our ISP in order to avoid being throttled as per the new torrent agreements between ISP's and RIAA/MPAA
