Hey, Harmy. I see that you're using the GOUT to reinsert the shots that were replaced, but I also read that you have an IB technicolor print of the movie that you're using for a color reference.

Why not do a good 2K (or 4K) scan of the print? Do you think it's a release print struck from the IN, or is it a special print struck from the original camera negative? If it's just a regular generation print, than 2K with the highest color depth should suffice, otherwise I would opt for 4K. I'm sure it would cost a fortune, but I'm certain that many of the fans would be willing to make contributions, including myself. Do you have a PayPal account?

Let's do this.

Hey tortugash, check out Mike V's thread on preserving Star Wars, and Team Negative 1's thread on a 35mm preservation...

This link says we can have it scanned at 2K and recorded in HD for less than $1000. (I did the math. The movie is 11,000 feet long.) Or we can get it scanned at 2K and recorded in 2K for less than $2000. Both options have DPX files, so you would have way more color information than the Blu-ray's.

I'm downloading the current version (v2.0) right now. I discovered the annoyance that is the CAPTCHA. For all yall, it's the thing that prompts you to "retype these letters" in JDownloader every 10-seconds.

Even after I go through the settings and check "Disable Automatic CAPTCHA" it still does it! This is a real buzzkill. I can't just sit at my computer for 10hrs typing this over and over again. It keeps interrupting the download.

Anyone know how to do away with it for good?

Disabling the automatic CAPTCHA will do the opposite of what you want. jDownloader can automatically fill in the CAPTCHA for you for some sites, which that option disables. For some sites, however, the CAPTCHA has to be entered by a human. If you don't want to have to enter the CAPTCHA, you're going to have to download from a place that doesn't use them.

A place such as...

MySpleen or Usenet.

It would be easier for them to just close their business right away, without going through the troubles of getting sued.

No professional transfer lab will transfer a movie unless you are the copyright owner unfortunately.

And Harmy doesn't have it anyway, so the point is kind of moot.

I just about spit my coffee out reading the end of the last page, hahahaha.

Yeah, if anyone really did such a transfer, I imagine it being catastrophic, which is sad. Perhaps a long time from now, in a galaxy far, far away.

Yeah....-1's project is not the same as Mike's...

The posts at the top of the page are comical. Maybe it would be a good idea to put that stuff in a sticky, or update the ones we've already had, in order to head off time-wasters like that.

Please keep any speculation and rumors about the 35mm project in the appropriate thread. We answer questions there. If you don't know about it, please read about it here as mentioned before. http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/team-negative1-star-wars-1977-35mm-theatrical-version-release-details-and-updates/topic/14590/

We are not affiliated with Mike's project, nor do we have the same goals. We do plan on releasing it to the public.

If you want to join us, we have a private blog. The details for joining are here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/team-negative1-star-wars-1977-35mm-theatrical-version-release-details-and-updates/post/608515/#TopicPost608515

Thank you.

Hello guys, how are you? First of all, I'd like to thank Harmys for the fantastic Despecialized Edition! It's a very good job.

I'm a new member here, so can someone give me a myspleen invite?

Thanks!

Harmy would it be ok to upload the Despecialized edition onto youtube? There are a very large amount of Star Wars fans and classic movie fans in general who would love to see this but may not have the technical expertise or the right equipment in order to burn a DVD. I think that if the Despecialized edition were streamed on youtube it would open up the film to a much wider group of people. I see that Adywan's revisited has been uploaded onto youtube in 13 parts

RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!REMASTERED is now released!!!

Yeah, no. All my Star Wars related clips on YouTube got deleted for copyright infringement and they threatened to block my account - imagine what would happen if I uploaded the whole film. And I'd prefer that no one else uploads it either. Plus the video quality on YouTube is seriously horrible, so even if it could be put there safely, I wouldn't really want it to be.

@Darth_Vorennus: Invite sent :-)

I don't understand.

If people are willing to put up with YouTube quality, then why don't they just watch the GOUT DVDs?

Also, since when did downloading files and burning DVDs imply that one has "technical expertise"?

You don't have to burn it to a DVD to watch it anyway.

Those who for whatever reason want smaller file size there are plenty of free tools that will allow you to do (ruin) that ON YOUR OWN and google/yahoo/duckduckgo/etc can be your friend unless you are too lazy of course....

On the one hand, I agree that it's better to run the movie through Handbrake (or such) on one's own rather than having Harmy do it.

On the other hand... "ruin"? Since when does dropping the file size to something manageable and not ridiculously huge ruin it? You can run 480p video through Handbrake at RF19 or HD quality video through at RF21, and still have extremely good quality picture, while potentially cutting the file size in half or more.

I've been ripping both my own and my parents' movie libraries, and I can personally attest to the quality of the output. Further, not everyone has a 3TB NAS to store movie backups on.

I wouldn't expect Harmy to do it, though.

It's like it's quite possible that Picasso would have loved to use Photoshop for some of his paintings if it was available back then, but if you take a picture from Picasso and recreate it in Photoshop, it's not going to be the same picture and it can hardly be used to demonstrate Picasso's brush techniques.

People need to understand that this is first and foremost a restoration/preservation project - not a distribution project.  It is amazing that it is as easily obtainable as it is.

I think Harmy only has access to a limited number of frame grabs of an IB technicolor print for reference purposes.

Even if one had a complete IB technicolor print, it would undoubtedly be illegal to make a copy of it without studio permission, just as it is illegal to screen such a copy for an audience without permission.
