Is anybody worried about Disney? As much as we are angry at George Lucas for screwing up Star Wars you do have to give him credit for not taking legal action against his fans. Now that a major corporation without its history based mostly on Star Wars has taken over I worry that Disney won't think twice before bringing the hammer down
There's plenty of this discussion over at 'General Star Wars Discussion' where it belongs.
The changes that George Lucas has made over the years to Star Wars is the equivalent of someone keying your car. On an intellectual level, you know that the car still works, and its only marred a fraction of a percent of the paintjob. On an emotional level, every time you see it, it's all you can focus on, and it makes you want to rip someone's face off.

+1 for the latest changes! Very, very, very cool. Can't wait to check the latest comparison. Thank you for giving us these clips to check out as things move along. Regarding the "blueness," I think it looks "just right." The coolness here (color temp) seems nothing short of perfect, but I'll wait to see the clip before really deciding. Incredible that it can be manipulated better with the improved tools.
...........also, I hate to ask again, but may I please get an invite to the myspleen from anyone here? Already have all 3, but wouldn't mind helping seed, and/or still volunteer to help w/getting 2.1 onto the groups of news, unless that's already going to be covered.
A couple of friends have now seen 2.0 and been very happy. One friend commented that he had completely avoided the SE crap, and was humbled to view the "real thing" again after so long, and also commented on how seamless it all was.

Would Star Wars "clapper" clips help as definitive color references and do we have them like the Star Trek community has (the black & white board would help, but one with a color strip would be better)?
I don't think so. It would of course give you a definitive idea of what the colours on set really were, but SW was shot with a variety of filters, lit specifcally, and, as has been pointed out, intentionally graded after the thing was assembled. Knowing the grey point wouldn't give you any idea of what the film looked like when Lucas was ready to send it for duplication.

This may be the oft-cited monitor calibration issue, but v.2.1 seems too strong orange-hued. I hadn't watched much through v.2.0 development, but it here seems weaker with some hue-steps off in the other direction. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears' porridge, overlapping the two seems just about right:
Yeah I know this is a week late, but wow that's really nice. AFAICT it's mostly desaturating the orange and leaving the rest about the same. I wonder what this process would do to 3PO though.

He's off-topic most of the time. I think he's talking about the official Blu Ray by the way.

Nice catch! Apparently, no one else did. Harmy likes feedback to catch such mistakes.
Sorry for being off topic ...
No need ... you're completely on topic. Some don't "noodle it" (like checking the first post of this thread to verify):

Maybe not. Back in 1976, movies put as much as they could in front of the camera lens. Their post-production "grading" was nothing like today's (where everyone does it and much of it is done wrong). And Lucas wasn't 20 years older with allot of time on his hands to toy with it:
"... George recalls. 'I really just wanted to get done with the damn movie and I didn't care what it turned out to be.' " -p.176, Skywalking: The Life And Films Of George Lucas, by Dale Pollock
.

It was a 50-50 blend for this frame. Others may look better more one way or the other. And still others may look fine untouched. This was just a way to quickly exemplify for Harmy my observations ("too orange" is too obtuse).

Star Wars is the only case in modern film history where the preservation of the original award-winning version has been left up to the fans. That fact alone proves that Lucas is insane.

It is against the rules to post hyperlinks to full downloads, so you won't find them if you continue to look here.
They're on Usenet (a.b.starwars) and MySpleen.

The Hutt, c'est moi.Well... actually I'm glad about 2.1, because the 2.0 felt too much off color-wise when watching the whole thing on my TV. The 2.1 version goes in the right direction.
