Regarding the menu; I dont like the idea of being reminded that the special edition exists every time I go to watch Star Wars.

With respect to and knowledge of what Harmy has done for us and removed, I would prefer to pretend I was just watching the film because its something I love, not watching it because its not something I hate.

That said I think education and credit to Harmy are still important.May I suggest either an auto play with a menu that pops up after the feature Or a menu at the start with a more generic STAR WARS theme with PLAY, OPTIONS, DESPECIALIZED selections?

Not saying you dont have the right to make sure everyone knows its Despecialzed 2.0 but being reminded of that first thing every time and, if I am showing it to a group, having to discuss with to people before they enjoy the film (instead of after) might slightly lessen my enjoyment of the experience.

But then that does come off as a bit ungrateful since none of us would have this option if it werent for you and this project! So I will just take it and love it either way but I wanted to offer that perspective to you.

Also I realize I could probably separate the menus from the feature somehow? but to a not tech savvy person like myself, that seems fraught with potential failure on many levels.

Don't mind the "negative" comment - I agree entirely with your rationale. Of course it's totally up to Harmy in the end, and I did find it entertaining, but honestly I think when I'm in the mood for some Star Wars the last thing I want to see is a visual reminder of what I hate so much about it nowadays.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about with the menu. Why would the presence of a menu remind you of the Special Edition?

What is the animation you showed intended for ?

If you mean the one with the Ronto, then the documentaries. If you mean the 3D-ified poster I posted ages ago, then the menu background.

I think the concern is that seeing the title "Despecialized Edition" in the menu right before watching the film only reminds them that the Special Editions exist.

Any sort of customization is possible for those who want to author their own BD's using the streams Harmy provides...

....well, it's called The Despecialized Edition for a reason. And you label things according to what they're called, so that you can distinguish them. And you learn to accept the past and move on.

^This, plus I still don't see why you'd think the despecialized edition title would be in the menu, because it won't be - not in the main menu anyway.

I hope I didn't sound ungrateful to Harmy.

I just thought this animation (which is a good joke) would bring us to the full menu and would be the first thing seen.
I guess I was wrong.
Carry on with my apologies!

Oh, sorry. You didn't sound ungrateful; it was just a misunderstanding. I never said it was for the menu but I see how you could have thought that. I think I said somewhere it was for the docs but you could have easily missed that.

For the record, I love both video clips and can't wait to see the final product!  The scene being De-ronto'd is pure magic, and aside from the last 3 seconds, the menu animation is awesome!

Star Wars is the only case in modern film history where the preservation of the original award-winning version has been left up to the fans.  That fact alone proves that Lucas is insane.

I was just summing up the concern; I don't care what it's called in the menus.

RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!REMASTERED is now released!!!

There have been many low quality video clips of excised scenes from Star Wars available on Youtube and other sites over the years (not sure they are still available).

Perhaps some people viewed them a long time ago and wished they were in the movie, then subsequently confused these clips and their wish with the movie that was ultimately screened.  Anyway, that's one of my theories why people remember a movie differently to how it is now, even without Lucas type revisionism.

I also believe that some people managed to see slightly different versions of movies when they were released for the first time.  I still recall seeing a different scene with the thermite grenade in Abyss when I first saw the movie, compared with any subsequent video release.

I am so grateful to Harmy and others for providing enriching options that the studios refuse to undertake.  They should be applauded for conserving our heritage.

I am disappointed and disturbed by the selfishness and sense of right to deprivation that has crept into a society that has lost its way in elevating the $ to the status of an idol.

I'm of the belief that the studios, namely 20th Century Fox and even elements of LFL, would love to undertake it.  Unfortunately, it is Lucas that is not allowing it.

I believe this has been asked here before but I'll ask anyway. I'm trying to burn the remastered version of Harmy's DeSpecialized edition to DVD but I want to include the audio tracks. Not all of them. Mainly the 1977 5.1 mix, the 1977 mono, 1993 mix, commentary etc. I also want to customly make my chapters so it matches the chapters of the original file. So far the only program I've found thats allowing me to do this is ConvertXtoDVD. The DVD came out okay but its a bit boxy in some areas (quite noticeably in the opening Fox/Lucasfilm credits). Any of you know of any good programs that will allow me to customize the DVD the way I want and still come out good on the DVD? I don't own a Blu-Ray player so I can't make a Blu-Ray disc. Thanx.

Didn't somebody create already a "non-official" DVD5 version ?

You have to have a Myspleen.org account, and then you can get it from there.

But won't that just give me the file? I have the file. I just need a good program to burn it to a DVD to that will also allow me to include the audio tracks and retain a good portion of the picture quality. Also the homepage to Myspleen just simply asks for a username and password. I haven't got one for that site and there's no option for me to create one.

I think he's trying to downconvert the 720p video to 480p DVD-quality mpeg.

If that's the case, you might want to check videohelp.com for suggestions on which mpeg encoder to use. The audio tracks in the 720p version should work as DVD audio tracks without any conversion. The audio and video tracks will need to be demuxed, which you can do with MKVExtract. From there you can figure out how large you want the mpeg2 DVD video file to be and set the mpeg encoder accordingly. It's been a while since I did any DVD mastering so I don't know what the current leading encoders and authoring sofware would be.

Another option is to see if your DVD player will play Divx or Xvid files. If it will you can use virtualdubmod with an h264/mpeg4 plugin to convert the video to one of those formats and play it that way.

Well, now that I read this a bit closer it would seem that you're wanting to put the audio "you" want to hear with Harmy's video, while retaining the DVD9 menu's for a DVD5?

I'm not sure you'll be able to just port over that menu without issue.  This is not my forte but I believe you won't be able to use just one "fix all" program for this.  It's going to take a little work and patience.

After all the times Lucas has gone back on his word lately, I wonder how long before the unaltered versions of the original trilogy end up getting released on a later blu-ray edition.  I mean, Lucas also swore that he would never release the deleted scenes from the original trilogy on video and now they're on the bluray discs that he swore he wouldn't release anywhere near as soon as they were released.
