Which project?!

Yeah I think the biggest problem with Harmy's

post is that he seemed to think that this

style demands rhyme or meter which it fairly

explicitly doesn't if you read -1's posts

Yeah, I thought I'd just take it to another level and made it into a Shakespearean sonnet form :-) Did I mention I have a degree in English literature ;-)

Harmy, while your rhyme scheme successfully adheres to the Shakespearean model in both the octet and sestet, and while you also include the traditional rhyming couplet towards the end, your decision to use iambic heptameter and octameter in place of the more traditional pentameter was, to say the least, a unique and interesting decision on your part.

Did I mention I'm an English major as well? ;-)

That's why I love this thread.  Even if there aren't any updates, it still worth checking daily for the comedy value.

I find it interesting that the films listed in the email are in order of release (4,5,6,1,2,3) and not in Uncle George's preferred 1-6 order. Not important, it just struck me.

I doubt that GL keeps up with what is going on here.  More than likely, a few of his employees are.  In this case, Harmy may get a C&D - after enough time has passed for D2 to make its way into the ethosphere.  I have to believe that, privately, there must be at least some LFL staff who think as we do.

Lucasfilm operatives will go Valkyrie on him sooner or later... in the meantime, they keep hope alive and leave Harmy's work unfettered.

I have it on good authority that Lucasfilm legal is definitely keeping an eye on this place and they don't consider our efforts enough of a threat to their marketing to do anything about it.

It's one of those things I hope we never have to test here on OT, but I always refer to the old "Whack-a-mole" theory - when one site gets quashed another few pop up in its place.

"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." - Obi Wan Kenobi, probably referring to the awesomeness of the OT website. :D

If George Lucas WANTED to restore the originals, he would.

^^ Fixed.  I think what Frogneck wants and what at least some LFL employees want are entirely different things.

Star Wars is the only case in modern film history where the preservation of the original award-winning version has been left up to the fans.  That fact alone proves that Lucas is insane.

The really sad thing is that if Lucas permitted a transfer of the Technicolor print to Bluray, there would be buyers, so marketing is missing an opportunity purely from the hubris of one man.

Star Wars should be a test case of why ownership of an artwork such as film should be transferred to the people, after all costs and a reasonable return on investment are recovered, instead of residing with a single person effectively in-perpetuity.

As a member of the public, I feel held to ransom over the copyright antics of the studios, when each and every film is a collaboration of an army of people.

The two channel version of the 70mm track isn't in the Despecialized Edition—what I was referring to there was the actual 35mm stereo mix, which I also encoded to AC3 along with the mono.  The links are there just in case there were any problems with the tracks in the first mkv.

That reminds me of something I'd forgotten to point out, though: since the 5.1 mix was created by upmixing a stereo track and is not truly discrete, downmixing it back to stereo again is inadvisable.  There is a distinct possibility that doing so could cause phase problems, most likely heard as distortion in the high frequencies, which obviously is a less than optimal listening experience.  The most obvious cause of such phase problems would be the fact that the surround channels (which contain a certain amount of unavoidable crosstalk from the front) are delayed by 10 milliseconds, and definitely won't align properly in a downmix.  Add this to the fact that Dolby Digital decoders may drop the LFE channel when downmixing, in which case the main benefit of the 5.1namely, the added bass content—would go unheard.

So if, for example, you will be listening to the movie on headphones, or any system without a subwoofer installed, then the two channel version of the 70mm track could make for a more optimal listening experience.

Since it isn't included here, due to the 5.1 more properly representing the theatrical experience, the user would have to mux it in themselves, but it may be worthwhile depending on what kind of listening setup is being used.  The links for it are in this post if anyone doesn't have it yet.

Thanks.  If I understand correctly:

- the 70mm FLAC encoding is ok (no encoding issues, not included in despecialized)

- this is a re-encode of the 35mm stereo and mono mixes (from Belbucus, just in case there was an issue with the version inside despecialized)

Okay, but the point about LFL missing a marketing opportunity just because of Lucas means some of you have to give up your constant rhetoric of the man being a soulless, money-grubbing hack.  If anything, you kind of have to admire Lucas sticking by his convictions and NOT caving to an opportunity to pocket some quick cash.  Obviously we'd all prefer a proper new scan and presentation of the theatrical films, but he's said all along this is an artistic preference and by god he's sticking to it.

Now that said, even that useless sack of crap McCallum has gone on record as saying he would like to see a proper release of the theatrical cuts, so you know it's a prevalent sentiment at LF.  It WILL happen.

Aren't you guys a bit off topic? You're just repeating what has been said on this site a hundred times and you're repeating it in a way that makes other people think we're a bunch of whining fanboys. Urgh, I have to stop reading this thread, I get pissed of every time.

Anyway, guiser, yes, that is right, the FLAC version is fine. The stereo and mono versions are probably fine too but there's a small chance they may not be, so as long as people are remuxing the 5.1, they may as well remux those too, just to be sure.
