Padawan LearnerIf the details are so great, I really think it has to do with the fact that it's mostly sourced from the Bluray rather than an HD TV recording. Watch the hut scene with Ben and Luke and Luke's face in shots become a pixelated dark blur.
What's the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Han D. SoloThe additional detail (as in resolution, not in the shadows and such) is not because of the BD, it's because of better compression and using lossless throughout the whole editing process. Even shots sourced from HDTV (and there's still quite a few) look a lot better in remastered.
Check out this shot (which comes from the same HDTV transfer used for v1.0):
If you click left, you'll see the v1.0 version.

Padawan LearnerAh, point taken. But I do have to say, a good compression makes a crapload of difference.

Thanks again, Harmy. The AVCHD of v2.0 looks incredible. You've outdone yourself and I look forward to 2.1 and the next incarnations of Empire and Jedi. You've saved Star Wars for all of us... even if some have yet to realize this fact. You are a hero in my book.

A légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal.I want to add that even though your work is impressive enough to the community here, who have seen the slow evolution of fan preservations through the years, it is flat-out unbelievable to "civilians" outside OT.com. I've shown your 2.0 version around and, without a doubt, the most common reaction is: "How is this even POSSIBLE?!?"
I'm reminded of Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. I'd say this definitely describes your work.

Those shots of R2 with navy blue trim, as opposed to that bright royal blue as well as the lightsaber shots of Ben and Vader....they are exactly as I remember that movie. 1970s-like!
After so many years of being here, and so many attempts to achieve what Harmy is doing, I'm STILL puzzled by WTF Lucasfilm has been thinking everytime they re-release these movies worse than the last.
Let's be honest George isn't the only muppet working there.
Eagerly awaiting the 2.1 release. Should be amazing!

Yeah, the poetry style of posting
Is annoying as hell to read.
I too do wish he stopped it,
It's causing my eyes to bleed.
Why anyone would post like that
I'm trying to understand.
It's making me a little mad,
But what would you recommend?
When what he says in his lore
May be crucial information,
I can't put him on ignore.
So after much contemplation,
I opted for serenity
And tolerate his oddity.

We want the originals, please restore them.Lucasfilm ltd. should see your Despecialized Edition V2.1 and see how easy it is to do this with a "Professional Computer,"because if people with a At Home Computer can do this, why can't Lucasfilm? It's sad :(
Thanks again Harmy and others.

If Lucasfilm WANTED to restore the originals, they would. They have all the tools and resources to do so. The sad part is that Lucas is content to see these historic movies in their original form simply fade away from existence.
And I would be surprised if Lucasfilm isn't well aware of this site and the type of restoration efforts that exist here.

Harmy i am interested to know what fonts your considering using on the Blu Ray menu's, will you use the more modern SW fonts? or something like the itc-serif-gothic font? which is very similar to the font used on the original Star Wars poster, or maybe a font used in the movie itself?
see you auntie
