The situation is very similar with Chewtobacca's DVD5 - no automated one-click software can hope to match it in quality.

Please consider this before doing your own re-encodes.

Is Chewtobacca's DVD5 available anywhere except newsgroups?  That's the whole reason I'm attempting my own encode...

I'll be hosting a viewing party this weekend to spread the joy to all of my OT-loving friends who've suffered with the GOUT DVDs thus far.  Faces will likely be melted :).

I'm actually really curious as to knowing how that'll go.

What's the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I really appreciate how quickly the fixes were addressed for the audio sync, but for those of us that have the first version and have no clue how to fix it, is there a new copy of the whole shebang, fixed, for us to download?

Star Wars is the only case in modern film history where the preservation of the original award-winning version has been left up to the fans.  That fact alone proves that Lucas is insane.

Well, I have access to newsgroups obviously, so I could get it and upload it somewhere if Chewtobacca does not plan to. However, I don't have an account at either one of the file hosters, and I honestly don't want one, so one of you guys should tell me where to upload it best.

I'll report back with reactions once they've seen it.  I've been talking it up for a while now, so they're pretty excited to watch it.  We've been lamenting the horrible treatment of the OT for years, so this is going to be a revelation for most of them!

I don't comment on this thread as much because I'm not a technologically advanced guy.  I have no BD player and only recently got an HD TV.  I was content with the GOUT until I came to this site and realized its shortcomings.  But knowing what I know now, and seeing what Harmy has done, I will add my name to the list of the grateful who are so happy to see the original movies in such amazing quality.  Thanks Harmy.  You're awesome!

The ROTJ collaborative thread is a wealth of ideas, both on how to edit Return of the Jedi, as well as how to collaborate in an edit.  Emanswfan has taken leadership of the project.

Password for all ROTJ-related clips: ROTJ

A very rough edit of how the Battle of Endor could go
A very rough idea of how ROTJ could end

Rough edit based on the final script with some deviation:

Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 4

RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!REMASTERED is now officially released!!!

And the AVCHD is something that can be downloaded and burned to a disc or data stick without the steps required to play the mkv?

I asked someone to send me ESB and ROTJ last year so I never learned how to convert/burn it. Furthermore I just tried to download 2.0 and my speed is so slow it would take me days.

I've been telling my friends about this project and the upcoming 2.0 since last school year. School just started again last week and today they tell me they are going to get together and watch the GOUT next weekend. Noooo! I told them 2.0 was finally done and would try to get a copy by then. (even though personally I am waiting for the bluray)

Can anyone help me out?

Are you downloading it from Myspleen, Midnight_Trooper? I get 900 KBps of speed...

Harmy, I will try to split both mkv and then merge then later. BTW, this is the SHA1 hash of the file I downloaded from Myspleen: 1548ff324162e7ec6fb47346b8b2a2eab3090b73. Maybe the file was slightly corrupted when I was downloading it?

If that is your MKV file (Star.Wars.Despecialized.Edition.Remastered.Harmy.mkv) and not something else, then something went very wrong, because I got mine from Myspleen and it matched Harmy's perfectly.

No. I guess I need an invite? Is that AVCHD people are mentioning a "ready for disc" package so I dont have to mess with the mkv thing? That sort of thing is really confusing to those of us who havent ever done something like it before.

The AVCHD format is mainly intended for folks (like myself) who don't yet own Blu-ray burners. The movie is still encoded in HD format, but it will be no larger than 8.5G so that it will fit onto a dual-layer DVD. You can then burn it to a DVD that you can play in a regular Blu-ray player.

If you do have a Blu-ray burner, then you can probably just burn some variant of the existing MKV.

Is there anyone[s] that would be willing to send out Blu-ray copies to some of us who don't have Blu-ray burners? ;) B&P, or just P, perhaps? Trade? It would be massively appreciated.

Thanks for that explanation:  I was wondering why anyone would want to compress the video further by 50% because the final quality has to be compromised in some way (unless the original video has not been compressed by much).

For those with Bluray players that can handle mkv on a usb drive, then the mkv will be the highest quality one to use.

Maybe we can convince Harmy to release the eventual Bluray as a series of mkv too, for those without Bluray burners but who have mkv capability.

I second this. I haven't burnt a disc in years.

Guys, does the DVD5 work for you? I tried it in Total Media Theatre 5 and MPC-HC, and in both the playback doesn't even start.

The AVCHD does suffer from some quality loss when compared to the MKV. It's still a nice upgrade from DVD quality however, and will suffice until my blu ray burner arrives next week!

Yup, that's the one I got.

The funny part is that when I played this mkv on a low powered netbook which can't handle 720p without slowdowns and frameskipping, the video player crashed. Then I tried it on a desktop computer with 4gb of RAM and an Intel Core 2 and the first time it just showed graphic glitches but the video player didn't crashes, but now it just skips the corrupted part.

So I did what Harmy told me: I downloaded the first and second rar from Mediafire, then I uncompress them (despite being broken), then I splitted the whole film on the 00:01:00 mark and then I added the uncorrupted part... but when I played the finished video I saw an small "jump" around 00:01:00, so then I redid the whole project, but now on the 00:00:27.500 mark, when the "A long time ago..." message dissapear, so this "jump" is no longer visible. So it's fixed now.

Meanwhile I'm seeding the finished torrent, I hope nobody experience this strange glitch.

I'm not sure seeding it is such a great idea. It might just cause trouble for others, since the file isn't identical.

Glad to hear you managed to do it though.
