Return to Form, or Forum in this case!!Harmy, thank you so much. You've brought the heat and the grittiness back to the film.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won't last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you'll be able to project it on a 20' by 40' screen with perfect quality. I think it's the director's prerogative, not the studio's to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Harmy, congratulations on this amazing achievement. It's sad that it should even be necessary (GL should have done this on his own already), so you've done a tremendous service towards film history preservation.
Anyway, please forgive me if this was discussed before....
I completely understand the legal reasons preventing selling the despecialized films for PROFIT, but I'm wondering if anybody has taken it upon themselves to produce the Blu-Ray discs and print the cover art, and then sell them at ACTUAL COST plus LABOR. If so, where could they be found?

Even though I understand what you mean and why this sounds more legal, any exchange of money for goods, even without profit, goes much too far into the realm of trouble. It's one thing for projects to solicit donations, as Adywan's Revisited has done, but actual exchange, even without profit, is too likely to attract legal attention.

Chief Architect of Cynical MoralityThat is also frowned upon. Reimbursing the cost of blanks, maybe, but outright selling the packages for no profit is still SELLING the packages. No one would be OK with that.

Admiral Ackbar Cereal - It's a Snack!Probably a good way to go about this (if you don't have a BD Writer would be to purchase all necessary materials, and then find somebody who has the proper equipment and is willing to do the work and then just ship them with a prepaid package back. That way there is zero money transferred. No reimbursement Nothing too terribly shady. :) Unfortunately I'm in the same boat since I do not have a BD Writer.

You don't need a Blu-ray player to burn AVCHD DVD9 discs. They are just dual layer DVDs that more or less use the same video streams as a Blu-ray (to oversimplify it).

I'm also keenly interested in grabbing these cuts, but don't have a MySpleen account. I bothered one of the forum members mentioned in the OP for a membership, but if there's an alternative method of obtaining them that is less obtrusive, I would love to know.
And yes, if it isn't obvious, I am overly polite because I am from Canada.

He was talking about burning the made-for-BD version, the two people above him were talking about not being able to burn it. We're on the CatBus now motherfucker, and you don't get off until it gets you off, and I love it.

Great job, Harmy! The only thing I noticed is that, around the 9 second mark, there seems to be some "bleeding" over the edge of the archway (it looks like the blue from the sky overlaps the stone). It's fairly inconspicuous, however, and if nothing can be done about it, I'm still happy to see this project one step closer to the original version.
My hat's off to you for all your hard work and achievements on this preservation.
