Actually, I'm definitely doing the BD now but it will come out later than the AVCHD and MKV, because it will need some work to make a BD release worthwhile.

Is the AVCHD and MKV going to be the same bitrate and quality as the BD?

Well, the MKV may but the AVCHD will be a DVD9.

That will be great just as long as one of those is as high a quality as the BD i'm happy.

Thanks Harmy i can't wait to see this, i'm very excited!

Well that's surely possible. What you, Harmy, could do is to encode the video stream using settings for BD compliancy. You can also take this video stream and mux it straight into mkv. You'll only need to make two encodes then, one for BD and mkv and the second one for AVCHD (both 2pass ideally).

If you want to use lossless audio then you'll be somewhat limited when it comes to formats. Bluray only supports LPCM, DTS-HD and TrueHD.

As long as there's a lossless audio track released even in a separate file i'll just take that and the mkv and mux them into a m2ts file.

Keep in mind, any GOUT-synced audio will be able to be muxed along with Harmy's video.

CRF is more ideal than 2pass ;)

Why would it be? As I said a few pages back, CRF will give the same quality than 2pass when the encodes are at the same bitrate. This is also confirmed by x264 developers.

Now in the case of bluray you have a optical disc with limited capacity, hence you should use 2pass because you'll now the final bitrate before doing the encode. If you use CRF you don't know that and hence you might either waste (a lot of) disc space, or your file won't fit on the disc.

It's maybe not that much of a problem when you're using 720p and aiming for BD25, as you'll have plenty of space then, but for AVCHD it surely is.

That's exactly what I was thinking about doing. I'll do the MKV (around 15GB for the video stream and with BD compliant settings) and then when I'm done designing the menus and putting together all the sound and subtitle files I want to include and possibly some bonus features, I'll just use the same stream for the BD.

I know you said you're waiting on more reference frames Harmy, but are the Death Star's walls in that first Despecialized Edition v2.0 shot likely to stay that colour?  Just curious, as they really seem too cyan, especially compared to the GOUT and the other DeEd shots.

I'll see about that depending on what the reference will show but you can't compare it to the GOUT, which is seriously desaturated.

The cyan color of the walls is more correct. Once Harmy gets his reference shots, I bet they will be even more cyan (more saturated) than in his pics.

Sorry, really novice question that was probably covered, but is this going to be 24p or is it the normal PAL framerate?

I get this result for the walls with the settings I use on the 82 LD in VLC:

The cyan has leeched out of this LD source too (just like the Gout) as compared to the senator showing but this source has more saturation, which if the cyan was there would push the cyan in a different direction it seems. A further cyan push might have to balanced with something else to get the darker shades in the senator showing (or approxiamate them as much as you can given the source)

I don't know, the source is too low quality and there's too much compression artefacts to really tell anything from it.

It's worth noting that, as far as I have read, everyone with access to proper prints of the original theatrical version of "Star Wars" agree that the colours were all over the place to begin with. Harmy's reconstruction is going to look wildly inconsistent, because that's just the way it was. In that respect, even the pre-DC LDs seem to have had a certain amount of correction applied to them.

So if you're looking for 100% grey Death Star walls or realistic colours, this may not be the project for you to begin with. I'm personally looking forward to seeing this version, cause... well... I never have!

Harmy, I watched your DeEd-v2.0-WP2.3 workprint. Sadly I had no time to watch this earlier.

One thing I noticed is at 20:46, the scene after Biggs' fighter explodes the movie stucks for one frame or so. This happens when the fighter explodes and then in the next scene where Leia appears on the screen on Yavin, the timecode is 20:48 exactly when this happens. Maybe it has be something to do with the editing process and can be fixed???

The rest of this looks brilliant IMO.

I might take you up on that when I get the new mix from hairy_hen, SirJonah.

As to those doubled frames, it was necessary because there was a missing frame but I already noticed this and put it in a place with less movement and it is now practically invisible.
