Oh, too bad. Nobody here is in a hurry though. We'd rather see you take your time to make sure this becomes the best version of SW ever. (since the original of course)

Btw, I noticed one color inconsistency in this Greedo scene:

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7402/82164765.th.pnghttp://img600.imageshack.us/img600/739/53857207.th.pnghttp://img266.imageshack.us/img266/6606/82625697.th.png

Not extremely important, but in case you'll color all cantina scenes like the Greedo scene, it might be something to consider changing.

Oh, yeah, absolutely. I only colour timed the part until Han shoots and didn't do anything with the part after the smoke dissolves. I'm going to tweak that part when I'm editing the scene into the film :-)

Great, your doing a really good job. And btw I don't think I said I liked your recreation of those garbage mattes around the subs. I mean, I think they looked good on all the lines.

Thanks. Yeah, when I decided to scratch the blue glow and the out of fucus fade ins and I noticed that matte on Mike picture, I though: This is something that'll make it look more like optical compositing. Then of course, I had to make sure it was pretty subtle but I think it works :-)

Anyway, here's the clip as promised: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0JOIS04S

Harmy, that final clip is looking very nice! Just one thing I noticed though, the first of Greedo's subtitles, 'Going somewhere, Solo?' is a second or two late. All the other subtitles are pretty much spot on. Apart from that first subtitle timing, everything's looking good!  :)

Must've been like that in Puggo's version since Harmy's is timed to that one?

Btw Harmy, about encoding: I checked mediainfo on the last preview and saw this line:

Format profile                   : Main@L4.1

I remember the movies I have which are sourced from blu-ray almost every time says High@L4.1, so I thought what's the difference, and is it something to think about when doing your final encode?

I googled around and found this:

The AVC/H.264 standard defines four different Profiles: Baseline, Main, Extended and High Profile (which themselves are subdivided into Levels):

- Baseline Profile offers I/P-Frames, supports progressive and CAVLC only
- Extended Profile offers I/P/B/SP/SI-Frames, supports progressive and CAVLC only
- Main Profile offers I/P/B-Frames, supports progressive and interlaced, and offers CAVLC or CABAC
- High Profile (aka FRExt) adds to Main Profile: 8x8 intra prediction, custom quants, lossless video coding, more yuv formats (4:4:4...)

From what I understand of this, High is used more often because of the added features and color formats. My renders were done in High 4.1 so converting them to Main might be bad? I don't know, just thought I'd tell you.

Yeah, it starts exactly like in Puggo Grande :-) Now, as the subs had to be done for every inter-positive separately, it's quite possible, probable even, that there were different versions of the subtitles. Actually, the frame that Mike posted in his forum has a subtitle, while in Puggo's the subtitle doesn't appear until one frame later.

As to the profile, I didn't think about it and to be honest, I don't really understand the video standards and stuff but I will probably use high 4.1 for the final encode. Athough, I think that with a lossless intermediate, it shouldn't really matter what profile yours was but what do I know. ;-)

Interesting discovery, Moth3r's bootleg also match the timing of Grande, and IIRC the Swedish 16mm, would be interesting to see how the other bootlegs compare.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Isn't there swedish subs in that version? Or do you mean the swedish subs match the same appear/disappear times? I haven't seen that version myself yet, but I wonder if I would be able to watch Chewie being called Tugg. haha :)

Yeah, that's a wonderful translation. ;)

There is both swedish subs and the original english subs for Greedo present, that's how it often was handled in the old days. You have a still of the subs from the swedish print in this thread: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Greedo-Jabba-subtitles-theatrical-placement-and-fonts/topic/11463/ See the third pic.

Sorry about this guys, but I found something interesting... Brazilian VHS Dubbed version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxqWs8KHNTc) Greedo scene- 5:01.

Yeah, that's the same way it was handled in the old Czech dubbing.

Interesting. I really gotta get that version sometime.

Speaking of translations, the swedish subs on the GOUT are a bit funny sometimes too. Where Han says to Chewie "Get in there, you big furry oaf!" they've translated it as "Ner, din håriga gorilla!". (Down, you hairy gorilla!) Kind of bad translation considering there are no gorillas in the Star Wars galaxy. :)

RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!AVCHD DVD9 and NTSC DVD5 AVAILABLE - see 1st post!!!

Dubbing isn't done in Sweden, only if it's a film made for children. (take that Lucas ;) Nowadays you can often either see the dubbed version or the original english spoken version of a Disney or Pixar film in the cinema for example. So in the old days they often just placed the swedish subs over the original subs or over/below them, could be pretty ugly sometimes.

When the SW-prequel hit our cinemas in '99, there was some controversy due to Lucasfilm/Fox having done a swedish crawl and ALTA card for the first time, thinking they would do us a favor. Older people were used to and wanted to have the original english crawl with swedish subs instead.

Fun facts: in Sweden you had to be 11 years old for the first film in '77 and 15 years old! for Empire in '80, which caused major problems for the cinema staff with uncomprehending audience who tried to refer to the first film's 11-year limit. For the '82 re-release it was censored to be allowed from 11 years old after some cuts on 8 different places had been made with a total of 7 minutes cut from the film. Empire was treated like a goddamn horror film in Sweden. :)

But if you were younger than 15 in '80 you could go see it if you just brought your parents, that's what I did. :) Sorry for going a little off topic.

I'm pretty sure that's a leftover from the iconic '77 translation. :) We should perhaps continue this conversation in Puggo's thread. Anyway, I really recommend his 16mm if only to have the original bad translation preserved.

I remember this very well since that was the first SW movie I saw in the cinema. And about the original trilogy: I was born in 84 so I missed out on all three originals in the cinema. :(  I think the first time I saw them was in 91 or 92 when they were broadcasted on TV. I think I still have ESB and ROTJ on VHS from those broadcasts. In 4:3 pan & scan I think.

Sorry btw Harmy for the off-topic talk. :)

Actually, I just changed the settings of the FFDShow video decoder and re-encoded the video using RipBotX264. But After Effects would be better because it gives you more control. This way on the other hand is faster and easier.

Hey there sorry about the newbie post but I've downloaded the HD version of Star Wars despecialized and it's on my pc. I can watch it with VLC there but I wanna watch/transfer it to my PS3. When I use the media server function I can't watch on my PS3. How can I get it on there without losing any quality. Is it just as easy as transferring the file from my pc to my ext HD and then back onto my PS3? Or does the original file need to be converted somehow, to play on the PS3? Any/all help is greatly appreciated!

It should work in a PS3 as it is, no conversion needed :-)

But the High-Def videos (mp4, mkv,...) are enconded by Haali Media Spliter, only Standard-Def videos (avi, wmv,...) are encoded by FFDShow. When I reencode my HD videos using the RipBot exported file, it will contain the added "film-look"?

P.S.:Sorry about my english... XD

RE: Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD !!!AVCHD DVD9 and NTSC DVD5 AVAILABLE - see 1st post!!!

Well, I have the KLM Codec pack with Media Player Classic. Play the video in MPC and rightclick on the video, select filters > ffdshow video decoder > properties - when a window with the settings comes up,  select "noise" and if you keep the video running throughout the whole process, you can fiddle with the settings and immediately see the results.

Then, when you leave these settings on when you're closing the player and then re-encode the video with RipBot, it will apply those settings.
